MTV reports that Public Enemy are in talks to produce a full length animated movie based on their comic book.

“The first ‘Public Enemy’ graphic novel collection comes out in May and there is a lot of interest from Hollywood…It would definitely be animated,” our source confirmed. “There is lots of talking going on.”

The irony is that Flav’s already a cartoon, so it’ll be intresting to see how they pull this one off.

Charles Hamilton Guilty of Swagger Jacking?

Monday, March 30 2009 4:01 AM EST | Posted by: B.Dot | Posted in: Gossip

Apparently, Dukie is being charged with swagger jacking in the first degree. Allegedly, he ripped the track “Shinin’” from producer Black Spade and is claiming it as his own. Hit the jump to read an email Spade sent Fresh Selects regarding the fuckery.

“Yo!

So this is the beat Charles Hamilton CLAIMS he

created. In short, when I was in Austin to perform and check out SxSW,

I caught his set. He performed one of his tracks, ‘Shinin,’ which I

thought was dope. However, come to find out the instrumental that he

used for that track is a beat I produced a while back. After he was

done performing, I let him know that I produced the beat and asked him

where he got it from. In the back of my mind I know that the only place

he really could have gotten it from was off my MySpace page. When I

told him I produced the track and liked his lyrics, he still continued

to say that HE produced the track with some dude….FALSE. He said he

cleared the sample and that he is the one singing ‘Shinin’ in the

background and also that his homeboy was playing the keys on the track.

Now mind you, the background ‘Shinin’ vocals that he claims he laid

were not laid in the studio at all. I know this because I sampled them

by singing directly into the MPC.

Basically, the Frankie Beverly & Maze sample at the beginning is

from when I put the beat up on MySpace. The whole point of putting that

part in the track was to show that I was about to produce, from that

part, my own version of the sample. So, if you don’t hear the Frankie

Beverly & Maze sample in the MP3 I am sending you, that is why.

Peace,

Black Spade aka Stoney Rock”

Here’s somethin’ new from the blokes across the pond, DJ Frinkton and the Lovesoul DJs.

“The tape is hosted by all members of the Wu-Tang Clan, and contains interview snippets with RZA and Method Man, that can be seen in full on Lovesoul.TV. The Lovesoul DJ’s state, ‘The RZA and Method Man interviews

were really insightful and we cannot wait to share them. It was great

working with them and the other Clan members to create something very

unique and nostalgic. It’s rich with feelings of great times in

hip-hop.”

Great, I’ll support anything that’ll make me forget about 8 Diagrams.  *downloads now* Hit the jump for tracklisting.

Don’t think there’s ever been so much female rap royalty in one place. Missy, Lil Kim, Yo-Yo, Rage, MC Lyte all pay respect to her royal highness at her born day bash last night. Look at Ms. Whitaker gettin’ her hostess on—that’s my Miss Rap Supreme. Ha!

Thanks to producers Cool and Dre’s twitter for the tip. Ha!

Friday night, Keri Hilson was on Jimmy Kimmel and she brought her lil ass-slappin’ buddy, Lil Wayne a.k.a. the #1 rapper in the game. Hey, I’m just statin’ facts I didn’t put him there. Anyway, watch the king of Late Night bust out Birdman Jr. for his raunchy lyrics. Who knows what Wayne ever says, right?

As you can see, this is the debut of the RR TV Tuner cards. That’s right, Rip Game Proper (Telemundo Style). Step to the rear, Mr. World Premiere. Ha! I’m just jokin’. Jokes! No shots as you kids say.

Hip-Hop Confessions: J Dilla Who?

Sunday, March 29 2009 6:58 PM EST | Posted by: B.Dot | Posted in: True Story
jdilla-rapradar.com

Sundays are slow on the ‘net. So the marketing genius YN and I thought the Sabbath would be a great day to come clean with the Hip-Hop gods. After the jump, check out the first installment of Hip-Hop Confessions. Com’on, we all have one.

Truthfully, I never heard of J Dilla until after February 10, 2006. Admit it, most of you didn’t neither. After his death, I researched his discography and was intrigued about the guy everyone was eulogizing. I thought I was going spot some of hip-hop’s greatest sonic booms or at least several iconic tracks he was associated with. Boy, was I disappointed. Now before one of you geeks plant a Trojan horse in my inbox, by no means am I trying to diss the deceased nor minimize Dilla’s achievements. That’d be tacky. I will however question JD’s overrated popularity. And please, don’t hit me with that “He did ‘Stakes Is High!’” bullshit neither.

A few posts ago, I caught hell in the comments after I wrote Mannie Fresh > J Dilla. Blasphemous, huh? Sure, comparing Fresh to Dilla is apples and oranges, but, people have put Dilla on this pedestal. Actually, pound for pound, Mannie’s discography is far more superior. In fact, I can think of 10 other producers* who’ve crafted better tracks than JD. It really grinds my gears that the late Jonnny J doesn’t receive the same, if not more, props than Dilla.

Maybe I’m off my hinges. Perhaps all of Dilla’s acclaim is warranted. I’d like to think not. Yeah, “Runnin” and “The Light” were dope, but what else ya got? Since his passing, dude’s become the Che Guevara of hip-hop. Folks rock the merchandise and name drop him in songs. But when he was alive, I can’t recall anyone ever checking for his sound like that. ‘Kiss once said, dead rappers get better promotion. I’m starting to think the same rules apply for dead producers.

*Dr. Dre, Timbaland, Premier, Havoc, Swizz Beatz, Kanye West, Just Blaze, The Neptunes, Easy Mo Bee, KLC. Disagree? See me in the comments.
