Drake: Trey Songz The Greatest R&B Singer Of Our Generation

Last night at the Canal Room in NYC, Drake went out on a limb and said Trey Songz was the greatest R&B singer of the generation. Bold statement there, Aubrey. Unfortunately, I’d have to disagree. I think that honor goes to Robert S. Kelly. Say what you want about the Pied Piper, (Lord knows, I have) but Kellz has been running Generation Y for a minute. Sigh. Insolence is bliss.

Props: Miss Info

Moment of Clarity: Yuuup, I was wrong. While Kellz maybe the greatest male R&B artist ever, he isn’t a memeber of Trey and Drake’s generation. So in that regard, perhaps Drizzy has a point. But on the flipside, who’s the comp?

    Nahh I gotta disagree!!

It all depends what’s ur generation!! Drake is 22…for our generation!trey is definitely the best..how can we put Kellz in drakes generation..he’s 40 something..so he can’t be the best of our generation!

  2. DJC says:

Pretty funny how rap goes these days. Young money says drake is the shit, so drake becomes the shit. Drake says Trey Songz is the shit, so now he’s the new shit. All you gotta do is have someone say you are the best, and suddenly you are. Gonna agree with the R. Kelly one here.

  3. MistahZee says:

lol im guessing B.Dot is 40 or 40+ hehe i was born in 1990 and Kellz was the best for the adults when i was growing up and as i grew older that guy still was the best lol. he is my favorite RnB singer of all time. Trey is the best of this generation, and when i say this generation i mean the kanye era, which is drake, cudi, wale etc.

  4. B. Digital says:

Depends on what your definition of generation is.. If your definition is within a 25 year period, then R. Kelly gets the crown. But if your definition is within your age group (i.e. 20 something) then it’s definitely Trey Songs.

  6. mmkayy says:

just cz someone say ur the shit dont mean ur the best… if that were the case then fck it Ryan Leslie is the BEST!!!

  7. young global says:

U name one 3 Trey Songz classics….. I”m waiting….. That’s what I thought… Drake continues to prove how much of a cornball he is.

  8. young global says:

It still has to go to kellz… Shoot I might event give it to t-pain even though he ain’t real r & b.

  9. The Blog Bully says:

HOW THE FUCK CAN YOU CONSIDER A CHILD MOLESTER THE GREATEST OF ANYTHING? REGARDLESS OF PAST ACCOMPLISHMENTS, BEFORE NIGGAS KNEW HE LIKED TO PEE ON LITTLE GIRLS, NOW NIGGAS KNOW, SO HOW CAN THE NIGGA BE CONSIDERED THE GREATEST ANYTHING? THATS EXACTLY WHATS WRONG WITH HIP HOP, GOT NIGGAS PISSIN ON KIDS GETTIN PASSESS,GOT NIGGAS SNITCHIN ON T.V. AND SELLING A MILLION RECORDS,GOT NIGGAS KISSING OTHER NIGGAS AND SELLING 2 MILLION RECORDS. NIGGAS IN HIP HOP NO LONGER HAVE PRINCIPLES.

  11. TATE says:

What about Ne-yo? I would pick him for a song over trey songz.

  12. DG says:

Sorry Drake & Trey but what about Ne-Yo? Ne-Yo is def from this generation and has way more hits then Trey. Even the Dream, Chris Brown, Usher, Akon & Robin Thicke should be considered before Trey Songz

  13. Yessir says:

    NEYO, SONGZ

BUT IF RNB IS ALSO SOUL

    I THINK RAHEEM, DWELE

    ARE WAY WAY BETTER

    SO

  14. ppl are .... says:

Trey Songz is just coming into his own as an artist with having some good songs. I liked his last album and alot of people are waiting for his new one after his mixtape dropped. I would easily give it to Neyo, The Dream and didnt even think of T-Pain who probably is on top of all of them. I think Chris Brown would of been mentioned right there with all of them and probably still is but who knows if he will get his career back. I think so but its been a minute and people still arent over it.

  15. Eeevee says:

Well, Kells is still relevant, though. Very fair to consider him in the running, I’d say.

Regardless, Trey Songz has done really well at what he does, but he is by no means a trailblazer. Maybe he’s the first r&b singer to go hard on the mixtape game, and that’ll get you a cult fanbase but The Greatest?

Ne-Yo and The-Dream have sent waves through the entire industry as singers and writers. Chris Brown shut down award shows with his performances. Sean Garrett’s work has set the template over the past five years. Like, who is fucking with “Yeah!”?

Speaking of “Yeah,” does Usher Raymond not exist? I mean, Here I Stand was relatively a brick, but that’s relative. If Trey got an album like that, it’d be a huge leap up.

Also, barring Confessions, -no one- has dominated R&B pop over the past five years like Justin Timberlake.

oh wait, except Beyonce Knowles, of course. Really? Trey is better than Beyonce, as far as influence, numbers, and status? Okay, man.

Dude has a long ladder reachin up.
