Def Jam 25: Joe Budden “Joe Budden”

joe_ad

Once upon a time, Joe Budden was billed as The Streetz # 1 Draft Pick. After a string of mixtape releases, Def Jam added him to their roster in 2001 and two years later released his self-titled debut. A VH1 special soon followed (Anyone remember that?!) and the disc clocked at 429,158 after spawning three singles  (“Pump It Up” , “Focus”, and “Fire”). Unfortunately, Def Jam stunted his follow up, The Growth and he was dropped in 2007.

For his skill set, the album was average. Although there were standouts like “10 Minutes” and “Calm Down,” the overall project lacked replay value. When was the last time you bumped “Ma Ma Ma”? Since then, he’s released a bunch of street albums, joined a group, and increased his profile thanks to vlogs and ex-girlfriend, Tahiry Jose. The End.

Yesterday: Shyne “Godfather Buried Alive”

YO B dot this album got its radio friendly garbage cuts but everything else thats not intended fo radio is A CLASSIC. From the into to ten minutes, to that white boy on the beats this album was the beginning of that mood musik shit. It gets replay all day, you just gotta skip the ones with the 112 and Lil Mo features. You should know this doggy.

You think so? I just thought it was fair at best.

  10. Tha Advakit says:

I thought it was above average as an album, but he is my fav rapper. I thought it was very well-rounded cuz it had dope club songs, girl songs and very good deep joints. Don’t forget “walk with me” and “pusha man”. I just think Def Jam didnt market him right. They shoulda put out “walk with me” as a single and/or the joint with Lil Mo.

  11. Yo could you upload that Vh1 special? i only seen it once when it came out in 03. I remember it was basically discussing his grind for the album, i think Q-tip was the host? explains alot with his voice goin out and having the doctors tell him not to perform on BET. Joey was setup to fail… but he still here. JERZ!
