Looks like Michael Eric Dyson wrote an unauthorized biography of Nasir. Available December 28th, here’s a description courtesy of amazon.com
The best and brightest writers of the hip-hop generation reflect upon the era’s landmark album: Nas’s Illmatic. From the moment then nineteen-year-old Nasir “Nas” Jones began recording tracks for his debut album the hip-hop world was forever changed. Released in 1994, Illmatic, was hailed as a masterpiece and is one of the most influential albums in hip-hop history. In Born to Use Mics, Michael Eric Dyson and Sohail Daulatzai have brought together the brightest minds to reflect upon and engage one of the most incisive sets of songs ever laid down on wax.
Heads Up: DJ RT

Man, miss me with the fake Jay and B quotes already. Headlines. Some of you sites will do anything for attention and traffic. You really believed B would speak to Star magazine? Tuck your tabloid in. And why would Hov need to write a letter to his daughter? Bitch please. He wrote a song! It's called "Glory" and it's pretty fuckin' revealing. He went on the record (double entendre) but you still don't get it. You may hear baby Blue's first cries but no you don't know her height, weight or what she looks like. And no you ain't gettin' a flick, fool. Can new parents get some privacy? Even if they are celebrities. Sheesh! Who raised you animals? Party at the 40/40. Paps outside. Rushin' the velvet rope. Don't trip over your integrity.
Put us here if you like. The RR store stays open 24/7. SOPA? Yeah we Showcase Our Product Always. And we're gonna continue straight ahead til somebody up there turns out the lights. Start from scratch? I'm not afraid.
Given to much hyperbole. Rather see Nelson George tackle this one.
peace to michael eric dyson for putting this together. some of the work our culture’s most innovative writers have put together took poetry and literary writing styles into uncharted territory.
…might i add, with no intense study of the western canon of “legends” like shakespeare, twain, t.s. elliot, etc…and with no college education, just natural ability a unique perspective and an attentive eye, Nas and others otta be in that same tradition.
but fuck it and fuck america’s non-recognition, we’ll hold it down ourselves, for our own tradition and our own rich history. byatch. tips hat*
