Today marks 10 years since Dr. Dre released his last album, 2001. To commemorate the date, XXL spoke to Game on Dre’s classic disc. Wait, wasn’t Jayceon in a coma?

When Dre put out 2001, man, every single car that drove past the hood was bumpin’ that album and different tracks. Everybody always had they favorite and wanted to argue over what was better or who rocked better but that combination of Mel Man, Dre and Hittman was crazy, man… I ain’t got no favorite [song] but if you wanna know who killed it, Eminem killed it [on “What’s the Difference” and] Devin the Dude killed it [on “Fuck You,”]. Those was like monumental features. Eminem and Devin was crazy.

50-rollingstoneSo after several false starts, 50′s new compact disc, Before I Self Destruct hits stores today. It’s actually bittersweet. Fif has gone on the record and said this is would be his final recording on Interscope Records before releasing a greatest hits compilation. So if this is indeed Curt’s last hurrah, let’s take ‘em back.  Above is an article I saved from a summer 2002 issue of Rolling Stone. That’s right, I’ve been rocking with the kid 50 Cent since day one zero. At the time, 50′s buzz was boiling from his mixtapes and he was rumored to have signed with Shady Records for a million bucks. No chains, no flash. Just a 10 speed, a wife beater, and a plan. He got what he came to get. Smile, nigga.

50 Cent Refuses To Appear On Song With Game & Dre

Monday, November 16 2009 7:57 AM EST | Posted by: B.Dot | Posted in: Blog, Focus

50 tells Tim Kash that he wouldn’t appear on the same track with Gameeven if it featured Dr. Dre.

No, I wouldn’t do it. I’d be on a record, on a song, on the [Detox] album, but not on that record [with Game]. That’s not making a song, that’s making an event — things for people to talk about. … So there’s a verse there that you think would be great for both of us, I just say, ‘Erase his verse and put something in better than that.’

Ouch. Before I Self Destruct in stores today.
