  1. They should be slapped in the face…College Dropout over The Blueprint?!?! someone blast for me over this blasphemy

  2. BILL THOMPSON says:

College Dropout is correct… it spearheaded the skinny jean movement in Hip-Hop.

  3. rrahha says:

Good album, but not the best of the decade. not even better than Graduation. not better than Get Rich’…

  4. POW says:

Lol this list….. Eminem should have atleast one of his albums on the list, because he had the best selling albums and are all classics.

Fifty´s Get Rich should be on there too.

  5. The Releast says:

Great album but list is overly questionable!!!

  6. JihaD says:

No Get Rich is a travesty… And people wonder why that nigga 50 is always pissed off; Plus, they didn’t drop one Marshall record on there? Are these muthafuckas smoking crack?

    JihaD

  7. mikey says:

    MMLP
    Eminem Show?????

  8. jackmove23 says:

LIKE THIS IS WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT…EMINEM AND 50 CENT IS NOT EVEN ON THE LIST….HOW THE FUCK YOU MAKE A TOP TEN WITH THEM NOT TAKING 1 AND 2…

THE BEST SELLING ALBUMS..THE MOST IMPACT…JUST 2 OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS….AND THESE CLOWNS JUST SAY NOPE LOL….FUCKING FUNNY PEOPLE….THESE SOFT ASS MATERIAL RAPPERS ARE FUCKING LAMES

  9. ok really says:

This is EW are you guys really trying to debate this? LMAO!!!!

  10. jamie says:

i think people just have a thing against eminem.
eminem has the highing selling albums.
and dont even get one on the list.

  11. yaboitone says:

list is DEFINATELY questionable, BUT COLLEGE DROPOUT IS 100% UNEQUIVOCABLY THE NUMBER 1 ALBUM OF THE DECADE!!!!

IF U QUESTION THAT FACT OR DON’T UNDERSTAND WHY, THEN THERE REALLY ISN’T A REASON TO ARGUE THE POINT WITH SOMEONE SO CLUELESS.

And it was EASILY better than The Blueprint. Your CRAZY if u think Blueprint was better.

  12. So says:

i just knew eminem & 50 cent stans were gonna be all over this.

but real talk: KID A is the best album ever. can’t believe *that* album isn’t number 1 this list.

C.D. was dope. haters can front all they want. i fucking hate all these fucking roid heads who try to hate on anything that is outside of those parameters. they are like the emo/heavy metal fans of rap….just plain dumb and angry.

  13. rrahha says:

    @ok really
    ^^^

You have a point, they know nothing about hip hop.

  14. young says:

blueprint 3 suspose to be on that list

  15. Rick Dickulous says:

    uh… the marshall mathers lp?

  16. Toya says:

I’m not surprised. EW isn’t very hip-hop oriented so of course they would vote Kayne in and not mention anything about Eminem’s “The Marshall Mathers LP”.
    Who’s Cat Power?

  17. llll says:

Top 10 Hip-Hop Albums Of All Times(MY OPINION!!)

    1-MMLP
    2-Me Against The World
    3-Ready To Die
    4-Illmatic
    5-The Blueprint
    6-Get Rich Or Die Tryin
    7-The Eminem Show
8-Its Dark And Hell Is Hot
    9-Laugh Now, Cry Later
    10-Paper Trail

i bet that most of u agree with me that these albums deserve to be on the top 15!!the order is not important…the important thing is that u agree that these are hottest albums…sorry not much of a old school there..i’m 17 and i haven’t the chance to know them..so i try my best!!

  18. JERZZZ says:

Kanye West has NEVER, in his ENTIRE CARREER MADE A CLASSIC ALBUM, LET-ALONE A #1 ALBUM OF THE DECADE.

IF YOU QUESTION THAT, THERES 2 POSSIBLE REASONS,

    #1, YOUR NOT HIP HOP,
#2, YOU WERE BORN AFTER 1986, AND GROWING UP HAD NO REAL IDEA WHAT HIP HOP IS.

THE LAST ONE YOU CHILDREN CANT CONTROL, BUT DONT COME AROUND TRYNA SELL THE GAME TO THOSE THAT ALREADY TOLD YA.

  19. villyvillz says:

Yo don’t get me wrong, college dropout was kanye’s best album, but this list needs some help. GRODT should defly be there.

  20. DARKAQUA says:

HOLD UP…DIDN’T STANKONIA GO DIAMOND???!!!! CORRECT ME IF I’M WRONG FOLKS…BUT I DON’T THINK I’M WRONG. BUT AS FAR AS COLLEGE DROPOUT, I AGREE IT SHOULD BE IN THE TOP TEN…NUMBER #1…I QUESTION THAT ONE.

  21. JayJay says:

    No MMLP….that’s bullshit!!!

  22. deeeon says:

the lists are so ridiculous everytime lol

  23. Young Sha says:

    No Get Rich..? GTFOH.

  24. JC says:

okay….i know eminem fans come in this site.. itoo love eminem, but Kanye West has cranked out THREE consequetive classics in a row… if you dont believe that then good for you, but obviously the rest of the hip-hop community and critics believe he made 3 classics because he did. he changed hip hop for good in a way…. not saying that eminem doesnt deserve a spot there but maybe his music didnt cross enough genre lines to be considered one of the best of the decade, regardless of sales…. and thats that….

  25. deej says:

IN the words of ed lover…” come one son!, get the fuck outta here with that bull shit.”

  26. deej says:

i meant come on son not come one my bad

  27. jackmove23 says:

  29. llll says:

@ JERZZZ….i was born in 1991 and i listen to old school rap alot!!i don’t like wayne or kanye…yes all of us like club bangers…but on my ipod…i have…..Tupac, Eminem, Biggie, Nas, Jay-z, 50 Cent, R.A.K.I.M, Krs-One, Ice cube, Snoop Dogg, Dre, DMX, Ludacris…ETC!!!they’re alot…but i also have some kanye and wayne…that doesn’t mean i’m soft or any shit like that…its my mind…i ain’t gonna listen to tupac just to make people tell me, i’m listening to real rap!!i listen to different kind of rap music, ya know what i mean?!!

F.Y.I : Cory is hardcore and he still young!!

  30. JC says:

@jackmove……. obviously theres millions of faggots then because his music and production style have been copied countless times and his music is always changing up style… hes won countless grammys….. he crosses genre lines…… i know you like eminem but the truth is his music is always getting critical acclaim…. maybe you should open up your mouth and research on all the grammys and nominations theyve won. its a fact.

  33. koa9 says:

    No MM LP?

That shit old 1.7 mil in a week…gotta be kidding me. No eminem show?

  34. MC says:

You don’t have to be a fuckin 50 stan to recognize that ‘Get Rich’ should’ve been on this list. You just have to be sane. This shit is blasphemy. Str8 up.

  35. So says:

niggas just aggy their favorite rapper(s) ain’t on the list. why you muhfuckas taking it in your soul like that. damn. lmao.

  36. t-dub says:

    this list is funny looking.

  37. Some Like It Hot says:

College Dropout best album of all time IMO.. 2nd for me Marshall Mathers LP, 3rd is a tie Illmatic/2001

  38. Jimbo Slice says:

I’m not mad. It’s his opinion. Not even coming to grips with the idea that it wasn’t a horrible album. But I’m not even going to get into a top 10 list. http://www.reverbnation.com/blastmusicconcepts I’m 35 years old. Some of Kanye’s best stuff is the stuff he’s done for Hov, and the roc back in the days. “Remi and Kanye have fire joints too. Thanks to Guru.

  39. JaYSoN says:

This list is as gay as the artist thats number one on it…the fuck outta here with that bullshit

  40. MC says:

College Dropout best album of all time IMO.. 2nd for me Marshall Mathers LP, 3rd is a tie Illmatic/2001

    ^^^^^

This is dumbest shit I’ve heard in a while.

College Droput over Illmatic???…Who raised you nigga?!?!

  41. Cardeezy17 says:

sooo….you got Kanye on here at #1 but you don’t even have ppl on the list like ANY of Eminems albums, GRODT, Lupe’s albums, or others???? Fuck this list.

  42. Some Like It Hot says:

@MC Illmatics a classic but I like Kanyes production style on College Dropout…

I aint hatin on anyones opinion but I can gaurentee you half the people commentin here never heard The College Dropout… this list still B.S. though…

  43. Da Business says:

first of all this is EW we’re talking about. So at the end of the day it doesn’t matter what they think.

Yo YN, y’all should do a best of the decade list for both hip hop and r&b.

IMO “The Eminem Show” was the best hip hop lp of the decade.

And Usher’s “Confessions” was the best r&b lp.

As far as pop goes Outkast KILLED it with “Speaker Box/The Love Below”

  44. Da Business says:

And for the record “College Dropout” is a CLASSIC!!!

  45. So says:

IMO “The Eminem Show” was the best hip hop lp of the decade.
    —————————–

nutzo. mmlp>>>>>>>>>everything eminem has or will put out. simple.

  46. ms_daydreamer says:

Love all of them, but that list is full of mainstream albums… Disrespects a lot of lesser known artists.

  47. Da Business says:

    @ SO

I hear u but like I said it’s my opinion.

To me outside of “Stan” and “The Way I Am”, MMLP can’t compete with the Eminem Show song for song. But hey, that’s just me.

  48. B.Dot says:

    ^
I agree. OVERALL, I think Eminem Show > MMLP

  49. koa29 says:

Yeah…even tho MM LP blew up with sales, Eminem Show was definitely the more quality actual record with aggressive content that displayed the harsh realities at the time.

  50. koa29 says:

    lol..sorry, couldnt help it

  51. OCHOV says:

Who cares what EW say’s! Why the hiphop community gets so up in arms when outside media make lists i will never know. But just on quick observation i noticed some ppl are falling into that trap where they’re talking about sales again and how important that is…wrong! I’m not a 50 fan by any means anymore since who knows but Get rich should be on there cause for that point in time he was the biggest artist in the entire industry not just the genre. Also i agree with College dropout on the list that album made him a star and is disputably his best album but it’s not better than the Blueprint.

  52. lol says:

LMFAO! Really? LOL! No wait really?!?!? C’MON SON GTFOH with that BULLSHIT! Hold up let’s not stay just in Hip-Hop but what the FUCK happened to Ms Alicia Keys? She switched the game up when she dropped. The fact that they left Em off the list you already know and no matter what you can’t deny 50’s GRODT i mean cmon people who are the people at EW who made up this list? They need a Debo visit.

  53. mike says:

eminem : mmlp, eminem show, 50 cent get rich

  54. yaboitone says:

YO @MC. U PLAYED YOURSELF. NOT ONLY DID YOU PROVE THAT YOUR A FUCKING FRONTIN FAKE ASS NON-HIPHOP NIGGA, BUT U TRIED TO CALL OUT SOMEBODY ELSE FOR IT TOO?? LMFAO:

ILLMATIC CAME OUT IN 94′ AND U SAID 2001???? U DUM ASS NIGGA? DO EVERYBODY A FAVOR AND STOP COMIN TO HIPHOP SITES. OR CHANGE YOUR NAME SO WE DON’T KNOW ITS YOU. IN ONE SINGLE POST YOU HAVE LOST ANY AND ALL HIPHOP CREDIBILITY BY GETTING THE DATE THAT ARGUEABLY THE GREATEST HIPHOP ALBUM EVER DROPPED WRONG BY 7 YEARS?!?! LMFAO. SCUM.

AND COLLEGE DROPOUT WASN’T HARDBODY, IT WASN’T “GANGSTA,” OR ANY OF THAT SHIT.
IT WAS REAL. HOW MANY NIGGAZ IS GANGSTAS? YALL ON THAT COON SHIT SAYIN HE DIDN’T DESERVE #1 CUZ IT WAS SOFT? NIGGA IT WAS THE REALEST SHIT OF THE DECADE EASY.

  55. Cali4nya says:

DAMN!!! No Em, Stans go CRAZY!!!!! Fall back its EW. LMFAO

  56. a. i really like finally seeing people who like eminem show as em’s best album. me too. more mature content and concepts rather than the shock value raps.

    b. this is NOT a HIP HOP list; it’s a list of most impactful albums. not just hip-hop. kanye is pop in his ambitions, always has been. good for him to get this vote; he flipped hip-hop on its head with his debut.

arguing about lists is inevitable as it is pointless. i say let’s debate but relax when we do it. some of u sound, ironically, just like kanye Crying about who You think deserves it. some group of people voted and this is what They decided. no big deal, whether it’s taylor swift at the awards show, Obama getting a Nobel prize, or Kanye getting best album of the decade. it’s just opinion. no need for all this homophobia and hatred. props to whoever made the emo/hardcore punk/metal comparison. obvious homophobia and violent anger towards a certain community.

having said that, i have no big problems with this list. kanye’s debut is a hip-hop game changer for the decade. pop culture game-changer, too. FOR THIS DECADE; Outkast did everything he begs for props for 10 years before he did it and they didn’t even SAMPLE or get egotisitical.

i am my fav poster here outside of mac diesel and b. dot. how’s that for a “best” list.

  57. Da Business says:

    Props to B.Dot

    and lmao @ koa29

  58. Luffy says:

Haters !!! Kanye is the best.

  59. MC says:

    @yaboitone

Actually, YOU are the fuckin dickhead you bitch-ass nigga!!. If you could read, then you could see that I was responding to homie’s comment when he said greatest albums of ALL TIME! He said Kanye was #1 and Illmatic was #3. Dickhead!

Secondly, I never said Kanye’s joint shouldn’t be there. I said Get Rich should ALSO be there because of it’s impact.

Get your facts str8 before you come your face you faggot-ass nigga!

  60. yardie_ute says:

I wouldn’t put Eminem on any top rap list. Sure he is a very skilled rapper but let’s put things into perspective. Dude sold so much because he is white. Sorta like the Elvis Presley Syndrome. Eminem was talking about killing his wife, homosexual skits(Albeit he is against it), having sex with grandmothers, incest with that J.lo line from MMLP, rubbing ass in peoples face, talking about slitting his wrist, taking shots at pop star (come on people Eminem is battling Mariah Carey, Nick Cannon and has battled Justin Timberlake, Nsync etc) and the list goes on. If he were a black dude he could never get away with rapping about that shit.
So yeah Em is nice, witty and skillful rhymes can’t deny that, but he should have never been thought of as a serious rapper, Honestly.

Realest thing written in this thread.

  62. Rick Dickulous says:

let’s just all agree that justin timberlake is a sack of goat shit

  63. kliq says:

    @yardie_ute has a good point.

I got into the hiphop game way late and had to play a lot of catch up, my first album was The Marshall Mathers LP back in 6th grade. That shit was revolutionary for me. But after listening to many albums after and I have to agree that while MMLP is a great album, I am not too shocked that it’s not in the top 10. I wouldn’t be too mad if they put him in the top 15 or 20. Same with 50 GRODT.

Now as far as Kanye over Jay … while Jay-Z made a huge statement with that album for hiphop, I think Kanye made a huge statement on the whole music industry. He really took over with that album.

  64. MEAZE says:

how bout THE CHRONIC2001…DONT TELL ME YOU FORGOT ABOUT DRE!

  65. bksnowman says:

meaze dr. dre’s 2001 came out in 1999 dumbass white boy

  66. tlntdtnth87 says:

When one thinks of a cultural impact; it is Kanye’s CD. He shifted the whole paradigm that was hip-hop then with that album. he got people who didn’t do hip-hop to buy his album, and thus become acquainted with hip-hop. It’s a classic. I support.

  67. kingill89 says:

wow the fact that mmlp isnt on there and stankonia is that low and no Coldplay or Linkin Park album is nowhere on there this list loses credibility

I mean then the love below and speakerboxx isnt on there this list is very disrespectful Sasha fierce you serious you saying that album was bigger Than Ushers Confession they dissed alot of people I mean Usher COnfession and Emancipation of Mimi held the RNB game for 5 years combined

I guess this is a make up for that B+ they graded for kanye glow in the dark tour which was their best rating for a tour they just kissing kanye ass and the Beyonce Sasha Fierce appearance can also relate to the ass kissing becuz ts no way that that shit should be up there before Usher Confessions or Mariah Carey or Alicia Keys album I mean where is Amy Winehouse this list is bullshit

  68. JC says:

thank you for my comments and others being respected , finally @ Yardie you put it in perspective, the College Dropout changed EVERYTHING, whilst eminem is a dope rapper, he blows up over rapping over maniac shit, Kanye Reaches out to a broader audience and effected almost every genre.
    peace

  69. kingill89 says:

there has not been an impactful album in the past 2 years of music nobody album has had an impact and they got that Single Ladies shit Im sry that shit aint right IDK like the love below/speakerboxx Confessions thats 2 rite there left out and

stankonia was a better hiphop album then college dropout and kanye didnt change the game with that album he changed it with Late registration like after college dropout came out niggas was still be gangstas Like Game Documentary sold more than College Dropout yea late registarion thats when we stop seeing the long white tees and jerseys and shit but College Dropout didnt really change anything in the hiphop Game like niggas wasnt relying on samples like they are now and niggas was still wearing baggy ass jeans evisus and niggas still was going for that gangsta persona

Well its entertainment weekly so their opinion isnt really valued to anyone they just say it is but its not

    Get Rich or die tryin
    Missy Elliot 2003 Album

like this list is wrong on so many levels its not even worth getting riled up over it anymore

  70. mike says:

    #1. Radiohead -Kid A
    #2. Outkast – Speakerboxx/Love Below
    #3. Jay-z – Blueprint
#4. Eminem – Marshall Mathers LP
    #5. Gorillaz – self titled
#6. 50 Cent – Get Rich or Die Trying
#7. Kanye West – College Dropout
    #8. Justin Timberlake – FutureSex/Love Sounds
#9. Red Hot Chilli Peppers – Californication
    #10.Usher – Confessions

    bksnowman

    ROTFL!

  74. TheTruth says:

    @yardie_ute

I respect your opinion, and everyone else who agrees with you that Eminem only sold because he’s white and that he’s talking about off the wall shit that people cant relate to but your arguement is inherently flawed. By these reasons:

    1. Eminem only sold 8+ in America with two straight albums because he’s white? Then explain why in those same years (2000 and 2002) Nelly sold 8+ million? Check the stats. Dont say..OH HE’S AN EXCEPTION..MOST OF THESE DUDES WERENT SELLNIG THAT ONLY HIM AND EMINEM. Cause if you say that then you agree that if one rapper is doing REALLY well and others arent then that rapper’s achievement isnt that great. If you dont..then fine.

    2. Eminem talks about homosexual shit, and psychotic shit and he’s battling pop stars. So by that logic ANY rapper who raps about homosexual shit, psychotic shit adn battles people that ARENT rappers shouldnt be taken seriously? So Biggie, who says “look so good, I’ll suck on your daddy’s dick” and “Fuck ’em in they ass throw em over the bridge” and “that dont mix/like two dicks/and no bitch/find yourself in serious shit” AND “fuck him in the ass with a broom” shouldnt be seen as a serious rapper? Also Biggie who dissed a whole bunch of R&B chicks…SHOULDNT be considered a serious rapper?

I bet you all say NOOOO!! and you know why? Because Biggie’s BEST work didnt involve those OBVIOUSLY homosexual lines nad those disses. They involved “Everyday Struggle”, “Somebody Gotta Die”, “Juicy”, “Things Done Changed”, “Suicidal Thoughts”. Which were songs about struggling, fulfilling your dream no matter what, the way their hometown is fucked and suicide. Umm so what was Eminem talking about on “Rock Bottom”, “Lose Yourself”, “Stan”, “The Way I Am” and just recently on “De Ja Vu”?

THAT’S RIGHT..THE EXACT SAME THINGS BIGGIE WAS. People need to understand that Eminem doing that funny psycho shit is just to be creative, that’s NOT all he’s known for. He has more serious, lyrically (DOPE) songs than he does zany songs. And even if he does have those weird songs…so does Common, so does Biggie….shit so does ‘Pac. But are they not greats?

  75. So says:

^ get the fuck outta here.

  76. Interscope Employee says:

No MMLP??? No Eminem Show? No Get Rich Or Die Tryin???

    BULLSHIT LIST

  77. Ac@pella! says:

Damn…too many comments to fuckin read, soooooo, I’ma jus lay my shit out there. Besides the fact that I am a HUGE and I mean HUGE Kanye fan (I’ve hit too many hoes to ever pause that shit), I would have to agree with EW. A lot of niggaz will highly disagree, but Kanye DID change tha face of hip hop culture with the way shit sounds, how niggaz dress, and how the world views hip hop and is accepted even more. Not even Jay-Z change the game all the way like that. Shit, Ye stepped up Jay’s fashion game with the shit he was on back then. TCD brought back sped up soul samples (as well as the Blueprint), but it sounded totally different. It was a more distinctive sound. It was like freedom for the soul in definitive music. Ye changed how everyone dressed. Niggaz wasn’t wearin aviators and cardigans and tight jeans and shit like that. Not even Louis Vitton. He helped all that shit, and now look at where everyone is in the rap game: Rappin about goin international and doin shit like that. Face it, whether u like it or not, Ye changed the face of hip hop in 2004. Jus listen to “Jesus Walks”…Shit 50 only changed the mixtape game and made it cool for everyone and their fuckin great-great grandma to make a mixtape…

  78. The Editor says:

Music, it is not about who changed the game, it is about Music, what stands out, what can you play, what will go down emotionally as the best music of the last decade. Albums people, not a single, not a hot line or a hot song, albums

Beyonce got jerked, I do not think any of those albums were as good as B Day, seriously, you can bang that right now, and the club goes crazy, JT def, GRODT is arguably the best hip hop album of the decade but Kanye best is Graduation not the other two, music people, music, Usher Confessions is def one of the best of the decade

The rest, I could care less

  79. TheTruth says:

    @So

So…So, what dont you agree with what I said? Did Biggie NOT say those lyrics? Did he NOT diss those R&B acts? Did Nelly not sell REALLY close to Eminem between 2000 – 2003? Are Eminem’s MOST MEMORABLE songs not his emotional personal songs? Did he NOT win an Oscar for “Lose Yourself”? Did he NOT make “Stan” a SINGLE on an INTERNATIONALLY heard album? Do you not understand the BALLS it takes to have an album that is(at that point) upwards of 4 million records sold, you’re the most talked about popular rapper of the time and you release a 6 minute epic song like “Stan” as a SINGLE? Not only make it a single but a successful single (top 5 in 13 different countries and Top 30 in America). Name me ONE rapper that’s done that. ONE this decade. The only one you can is “Jesus Walks” or “One Mic” but those werent as INTERNATIONALLY successful as “Stan”.

Oh but we’re going to discredit ALLLL of this AND MORE because he’s white? We’re going to put an asterisk next to the name of the MOST SUCCESSFUL RAPPER EVER(numbers dont lie, right Jay?) because he’s white? Vanilla Ice was white. Bubba Sparxx was white. Paul Wall was white. Why havent they had that kind of success?

  80. James says:

This is kind of stupid. MMLP sold more than any album on this list.
And the Blueprint was good, but let’s just say Eminem helped with that.(Renegade)
Other than that song, Blueprint wasn’t all that great. Not deserving of a top spot.

I’m just saying, Eminem is one of the highest selling artist of the decade, for any of his albums to not be on here is a fucking joke.
