RR’s ’09 Best Albums: #4 Clipse “Til The Casket Drops”

The Clipse are one of the most fawned groups in hip-hop—and for good reason. Last month, Malice and Pusha showcased their wit on their third helping, Til The Casket Drops. Once again, The Thorntons recreated magic with The Neptunes on tracks like “Door Man”, “Counseling”, and “Popular Demand”. For good measure, DJ Khalil dug in his bag of tricks and made “Kinda Like A Big Deal” just that. Good job guys, keep thuggin’ til the casket dips.

boo i hate the clipse. mad corny wordplayers

  2. Dashing says:

The Clipse are solid and they just make good albums. This is my least favorite of their albums, but it’s still very good. Glad they made the list ahead of most of these bums.

Now the real question is who else is on the list? We know 2 of the 3 will be Rae and Jay-z.

  3. ANT619HONY says:

Ay yo Ugk 4 life better be on this list caus that album was sickk… rip pimp c

  4. Nathaniel says:

myyyyyyyyyyy niggas. i can fuck wit it.

    All Eyes On Me
    Counseling
    Champion

    ^only tracks i don’t fuck with. thats like 9, 10, 11.

iono if niggas noticed…but Malice in particular is very…”conscious” (“and i hate conscious rap” – Malice) dare i say, on this album. i can dig it…balance. they got it. and they STILL have a sound all their own.

  5. Nathaniel says:

    @Dashing…

i feel you my nigga. you don’t think this jawn was better than Hell Hath No Fury? i think it edged it out a lil for me. “Trill” <—-i almost kill myself everytime that record comes on. that shit was horrible. iono…maybe i'm undecided

  6. AmsterdamMike says:

    BULLSHIT ALBUM!

    SAME SHIT DIFFERENT DAY….

  7. Matt says:

I was disappointed in this album. Not sure if I would put it in the top 10 just because they sound confused throughout this album. Almost as if they’re saying, “we’ve reached some goals. Now what?” Either way, this is RR’s list and not Matt’s.

  8. Cunning Link Quest says:

the clipse are a blog rappers… meaning all the bloggers love sucking them off. good album but not #4…

  9. My Nig Hussle says:

looking @ the rest of this list its not a bad choice.Wouldn’t be in my top 5 but its better then the others on the list

  10. My Nig Hussle says:

    So the probably will be:
    1.Jay-Z-Blueprint 3
    2.Raekwon-Only Built 4 Cuban Linx 2
    3.??????

  11. QUEENZ says:

I’ll keep on saying this until im blue in the face: The Clipse are talented brothers but the subject matter on their songs rarely ever changes!!!!! There has to be more for them to rap about, there just has to be. In any case, I think that “Freedom” track was one of the dopest, the rest was ehhhh.

  12. Dashing says:

    @Nathaniel.

You’re right about Trill. Horrible hook. It was definitely the worst track on that album, but I liked HHNF a little better overall. I do like hearing them over non-Neptunes beats though, which they didn’t do on the last 2 albums. Particularly, DJ Khalil.

  13. mike says:

they just need a sequel of this album this year 2010
like TILL THE CASKET DROPS… WE STILL GOT IT FOR CHEAP lp
A FOURTH ALBUM (with doper beats again) then
2011 pusha t solo album, & malice solo album why not too
THEN THE FIFTH SOLO ALBUM FOR 2012
end of the world (so that was a good option to bring that on the table)
a fuckin’ dark ish like HHNF but wit the heaven part.

  14. mike says:

, I think that “Freedom” track was one of the dopest, the rest was ehhhh.
    PLAYBOY MANSON
    ^video coming soon!!!

    ps:

diddy ross angels remix video coming soon

hope that real as it gets video also for february !!!

  15. SMH says:

Dope beats, dope lyrics, definitely not their best tho…

  16. Youngin' says:

Just Seeing This List…So I Don’t Know what was 8-10, but if i had to guess…number 3…probably going to be Ross Deeper Than Rap…Classic…Then Hov & Rae Top 2

  17. Bjack says:

The album is a tour in mediocrity. I’m just saying…

  18. My Nig Hussle says:

@Youngin’ 8-10 will surprise you when you see it

  19. Benja says:

yall should check out our list of the top 10 albums:

  20. cory says:

I dunno… maybe it was a pretty good album, but to me it’s absolutely nowhere near Hell Hath No Fury and Lord Willin’. The beats were all disappointing (c’mon neptunes. y’all fallin’ off now too??) and I noticed a significant lack of good wordplay. plus pusha just sounds annoying as fuck nowadays.

  21. sunraw says:

Their worst album proper. Still better than most nuh’s so called best.

  22. John says:

it was a good album, not as good as the first coz the Neptunes were on fire at this time but still good tho

  23. Jay says:

Joint jii hot… i was definitely rockin wit for lik a good week, me personally tho i wont put it in the top of of the year. had some hot ones like freedom, door man, and footsteps, but some of the other were just kinda luke warmish.
