RR’s ’09 Underrated Albums: #2 Maino “…If Tomorrow Comes”

A few years ago, Maino was written off as another “mixtape rapper”. After many postponements, he proved naysayers wrong and in June finally released his debut album …If Tomorrow Comes. Though Maino isn’t the most gifted wordsmith, he’s probably one of the most palpable. His warrior cry is echoed on cuts like “Remember My Name”, “Gangsta”, and “Kill You”. Meanwhile, he enjoyed the fruits of his labor on “Million Bucks”, “Hi Hater” and “Celebrate”.  Shame only 59,000 experienced it with him.

this is the first time i’m actually agreeing with you a little bit. lol.

    Success! *hand shakes*

  3. QUEENZ says:

Maino is a dude that I wanna see win cuz hes from my city but the difference between him and Kiss is that Kiss can spit. Maino has never spit anything that made me wanna rewind and listen to what he said again. But hell, if ATL has Gucci, NY can have Maino…..they were real niggas in the street but very sub par on the mic. In other words, I think their reputation on the street surpasses their lyrical talents by a long shot.

  4. PSP King says:

@queenz… Maino sux majorly. The only reason why he (and the rest of the trash) can get anything going is because the game is looking for a hero… like Nas said during the summer of 2008. Maino won’t be around long. Even Swizz may a comment about regretting giving Maino the beat.

Maino is known to punch dudes in the face real quick so the fear factor is probably what go him here.

  5. FLIP says:

Maino is a terrible rapper. I can understand that ya mans or whatever, but don’t try and sell him like he can actually spit. CAUSE HE CAN’T. AT ALL.

  6. Maino album should have been #1 most underrated, it was very cohesive, beat selection was on point, and he captivated the listener, tho not with his lyrical dexterity but with the conviction of his rhymes. I am proud to say I was one of the 59k that he sold but dont cry for him he still brought a platinum plague back 2 the projects (http://www.atlanticstreet.com/profiles/blogs/maino-goes-platinum-with-smash).

  7. koa29 says:

    @FLIP:

you serious? I don’t get how you can say “he cant spit at all”….he’s dope…wtf is wrong with u haters?

  8. Supa says:

even if he’s a real nigga, he can’t rap

  9. young 23 says:

the single went platinum all the above plus that 50k oww

  10. Tone says:

What the fuck are you RR dudes talking about. You label Jada’s shit “disappointing” but Maino’s shit is underrated????????? The cat can’t rap for shit. Punching niggaz in the face don’t make you hot! Using a recycled T.I track don’t make you hot! Using Mary’s old sample don’t make you hot! The nigga is WACK!!!!!

  11. mike says:

Fuck that! Maino really got the most bland style…I’m from NY and I strive 4 ny hip hop but he really just never drops anything

  12. msbrooksie says:

    Hi Hater!

You all just jealous that he has his name up there and you do not. Don’t hate on a man because he is doing what you ain’t doing, as you sit here and read blogs all day, get a fucking life, make something of yourself, and maybe they will post your hating ass on here as the number one loser who got their shit together in 2010…we won’t hold our breath on that…get off Maino, some of you have no fucking idea what his music is about. All artist deserve respect, whether you like them or not.

  13. FLIP says:

    @ Ms Brooksie

This isn’t about respect, it’s about talent. And Maino doesn’t have any. It breaks my heart that New York is settling for this dude as representation. MY MAN IS BARELY ON BEAT. There is no ingenuity or inventiveness in what he does. I mean shit, am I just asking for too much? Let me know. The history of New York rap is way too rich for me to be able to get behind son.

  14. B.Dot says:

    ^
Did u listen to the album? honestly?

  15. Moose says:

I agree with this 100%. Just like I agree with Kiss’ album being a bit hohum. Not to say it wasn’t dope, but call me crazy if Sheek doesn’t have the best solo from The Lox. I agree with Ross being very slept on besides the whole denial he had wot the corrections ish. Still say Asher joint was dope n not disappointing. Hard to disappoint when they don’t expect it coming

  16. Shawn says:

Question… Are thes list based on your personal opinions? Does audience response play any part when you guys rate?

I’m from BK and I’m always happy to see a Brother doing well. But Manio is really a horrible rapper. I’m not hatin’ and he’s proably a cool dude.. But a as rapper there’s much to be desired. And I’ve never heard anything from him that would make want to listen to an album..But since I thought Asher’s album was solid and Jada’s album was hot.. Maybe I’m wrong on Maino too.

  17. FLIP says:

    @ B.Dot

I heard an early version, but of the 20 or so Maino songs I’ve heard, I’ve only liked two: “It’s Working” (super throwback) and “Hi Hater,” which is is a gimme (anyone could’ve killed that beat, and a half decent rapper could’ve made it even more memorable). I’ve heard more than enough Maino verses both new (2010) and old to be able to call him technically incompetent.

  18. BK says:

Get the fuck outta here rapradar…i just lost major respect for this website…i like the dude maino, but the album was TRASH
