RR’s ’09 Best R&B Albums: #3 Trey Songz “Ready”

With the close of the summer, Trey Songz kept the game warm last year with his third album, Ready. He immediately sets the mood with “Panty Droppa” and soon after, disturbs the peace with “Neighbors Know My Name”. Eventually, Trey trades in his player card and searches for Ms. Right on “I Need A Girl”, but it isn’t long until he’s back to his old ways on “I Invented Sex”. Currently anchored by the intoxicating single “Say Aah”, Ready comes wonderfully prepared.

  1. took over r kellys spot says:

black roses, is also a highlight in the album.. ryan leslie, the dream, trey

  2. joe camel ! says:

    Corky ass mo’fucker

  3. J.Spfld says:

Trey did his things, ran R&B all year long… Keys, & Thicke better get top 2 spots, unless I’m forgetting someone else

  4. You gotta be fuckin’ kidding me. B. Dot, you’re cool, but this guy is fucking TERRIBLE. This endorsement is cosigning the blatant, almost embarrassing R. Kelly swagger jacking (making Drake’s Kanye-Wayne impression almost subtle), the poor vocals, the super-cliche’d singles, and the fact that this asshole named a song “I Need A Girl” 7 years after Puffy, Loon, Usher, Mario & Ginuwine buried that concept and name for good (even tho’ I liked those 2 songs). This guy is horrible. I’d be less upset if I saw you punching an elderly woman. (okay, not really, but still.)

  5. Fair is Fair, “Say Ahh” is dope, but it’s carried by the beat & Fab, and while the hook is good, the “We don’t buy no drinks at the bar/we pop champagne cuz we got that dough” line is laughable. Christ, he couldn’t end the couplet with “…pop champagne cuz you know I’m a star”? Is his lack of talent also blocking his ability to tell when things rhyme? Who is he? Prodigy?

  6. B.Dot says:

    ^
com’on this is a great album. Kellz aint making the music he used to.

  7. If that is really B. Dot, I’ll continue…

Kellz isn’t making music like he used to, so the answer is a subpar impersonator? Didn’t we give Guerilla Black hell for that? I mean, I’m not really that guy when it comes to this kindsa stuff, but Trey Songz is god-awful. He’s not better than The Dream, Ne-Yo or *actual physical pain* Chris Brown, and Chris Brown is awful too–he’s just awful in an original way. Anyway, to each their own. Agree to disagree. I just can’t see this endorsement as anything else but pandering. I know you gotta work with what you’re given (pause pause blah blah no homo), but there’s still something to be said for saying “Fuck that, no thanks.”

  8. WOW says:

FUCK THIS KELLZ SWAGGER JACKING COCKY AZZ MOTHERFUCKER

  9. i dont even remember r kelly cd says:

hes done dada…just bc he peed all over you guys doesn’t make him hot anymore this album was dope..

  10. i don't give a shit about trey songz album says:

who da hell is he ?

  11. So Icy Boi! says:

Trey Songz dat nigga YUUUP! ….fuk R.Kelly old ass nigga! …leave dat auto-tune alone

  12. louTHEantagonist says:

Dude doin his thang! I will sure put his cd in when Im rollin with a fine broooooad! Get that sex mood up

  13. Impossible is nothing says:

    so #1

  14. Ac@pella! says:

This album blew balls. Sorry Trey, this shit sucked ass and u know it. The Anticipation mixtapes was waaaaaayyyyyyyy better nigga…and quit with all that jaw quiverin’ ass “r. kelly” singin shit. Nobody wants to hear that. Nigga jus SING!

  15. politicalelite says:

This cd is a banger, from START to FINISH!! trey showed how much he grew up..got all his shit on my iPod and u can tell how he matured in age as well as his music.everything from black roses, love lost, to be where you are and say aahh..yall some real haters mane..this shit rite here definitely gets the moment right

  16. Shorty McFlyy says:

I DON’T KNOW WHY Y’ALL HATIN ON TREY, THIS ALBUMN WAS DAMN NEAR A CLASSIC, IT WAS DEFINITELY BETTER THAN R. KELLY’S “UNTITLED” AND I’M A HUGE R. KELLY FAN. AND NO HE IS NOT BETTER THAN NE-YO NOR IS “READY” BETTER THAN “YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN”. BUT OF ALL THE MALE R&B ALBUMNS THAT CAME OUT THIS YEAR “READY” IS DEFINITELY TOP 2 IF NOT #1, I AIN’T HEAR THE DREAMS ALBUMN BUT I HEARD IT WAS GOOD. “GRAFFITTI” AND “D.N.A.” WERE ALSO VERY GOOD ALBUMNS. ALL 4 OF THESE ALBUMNS ARE ON HEAVY ROTATION ON MY IPOD. “BLACK ROSES”, “YO SIDE OF THE BED”, “SAY AHH”, “NEIGHBORS KNOW MY NAME”, ALL AWESOME SONGS…

ALSO I’MA JUST PUT IT OUT THERE BOW WOW’S “NEW JACK CITY PT 2” WAS NOT ONE OF THE WORST ALBUMNS OF THE YEAR. I CAN STILL BUMP THAT JOINT FROM BEGINNING TO END. HE IS NOT A GREAT LYRICIST BUT HE HAS GOTTEN A LOT BETTER AND THE BEATS ON THE ALBUMN BUMP HARD(NO HOMO). BOW’S FLOW AND LYRICS ARE GROWING AND YOU CAN HEAR IT ON HIS GREENLIGHT MIXTAPES…

  17. Jimbo Slice says:

I’m glad his drake affiliations got him some records we can jam to, I fuck with him even more now But I was waiting for him to get to this level. http://www.reverbnation.com/blastmusicconcepts “Drake/Trey/remi”

  18. Can says:

shitting on an hip-hop/r&b singer for being influenced by Kellz is like shitting on a pop/R&B singer for being influenced by michael jackson. It’s a genre of music.

  19. Derek says:

Well deserve spot! This nigga was rockin, the crazy part is if his anticipation mixtape was as good as Kelly’s 12 play that shit is saying something. R. kelly nigga’s get over yourself Kellz is getting old and he is coming up with weak shit, step up your game Kellz and thats why trigga called him out on DOA remix, Trigga is doin’ his shit and I cant knock him for it. I have a feeling that Trigga’s on the rise!
