Jay-Z, Bono & Swizz Unite For Haiti

Swizzy wasn’t lyin’ as U2 member, The Edge gives us the scoop.

“Last night we wrote a song … Bono got a call from a producer, Swizz. He and Jay-Z wanted to do something for Haiti. So, Bono came up with the phrase on the phone, and last night we were here, we wrote a song — finished, recorded, and send it back to them. So, that might be the next thing you hear from us!”

you dont hear??? how are u supposed to hear u stupid fuck? is he supposed to take out a fullpage ad in the newspaper saying he donated money. and fyi bono is one of the worlds biggest and most generous philanthropists so i find it highly unlikely that he didnt donate anything.

  9. Theloneus says:

No rocstar. Is jay-z told everyone that he donated this much to Haiti we’d all accuse him of showing off. Niggas best recognize human life isn’t an advetisement.

  11. LongWinded says:

this is one of those situations where whether you decide to use it as a PR event or not it doesn’t matter. those people in Haiti just need the money and the attention. bottom line. and if these guys are doing music together then that must mean that the proceeds will go to haiti. since the we are the world joint from back in the days musicians have been doing things like this for a very long time. it’s not like anyone is expecting them to head out to Haiti and physically pitch in.

    Haiti’s Hero-Hip Hop

In 2005 when Hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans, a group of unsung heroes banded together to help assist the people of New Orleans. Hip Hop’s unsung heroes donated millions to the relief aid, bought trailers for Katrina victims, donated clothes, food, etc…and some even opened their own homes to victims of the natural disaster-and they did it all from their hearts, forgoing press accolades and publicity. So when the news hit that Haiti had been rocked by a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that brought the struggling nation to its knees-I already knew who the first responder would be…Hip Hop.

Before the United Nations, Red Cross, US Army or any other organization could get into Haiti…Hip Hop was already there. Less than 12 hours after the quake toppled the capital of Haiti Port Au Prince, Wyclef Jean, who is a native of Haiti, was already in the country assisting his people. Immediately while helping rescue victims of the earthquake he began calling for people to send aid to the impoverished nation and just as instantly it began pouring in. Within days his Yele foundation had received over $2 million dollars in aid for Haiti, with followers of hip hop undoubtedly pitching in a vast amount of that.

As rappers got to their Twitter and Facebook accounts to express their grief over the events that took place in Haiti on Jan. 12th, the unprecedented support from Hip Hop’s artists and followers began to show. Although the major news stations like CNN and Fox were definitely keeping people abreast of what was unfolding within Haiti, it was Hip Hop websites like Thacorner.net, Globalgrind.com, Allhiphop.com, Rapradar.com, etc…that were bringing the people the most updated information, firsthand accounts of the devastation, as well as the multiple methods of donation available at the time.

Soon after came more support from the Hip Hop community with Twista and Lil Flip recording Haiti Tribute songs asking people to send aid to the country and Twista donating clothes to the victims. This was followed by rappers like Jim Jones and Juelz Santana having Haiti Relief concerts in New York with all proceeds going to Haiti and Bun B and Slim Thug stating they were hosting a Haiti Relief concert in Houston as well with Bun B eloquently stating that “Regardless of Race, Color, or Creed-we are all Haitians right now and we need to help our brothers and sisters.” Most recently Swizz Beatz announced he was partnering with Jay Z and humanitarian/musician Bono for a relief effort and song as well. Every day more and more hip hop artists sign on to help with the relief effort in the tumultuous country and on January 22nd wyclef Jean will co host a telethon for Haiti along with George Clooney. Most recently rapper Rick Ross stated he was hosting a blood drive for Haiti also……

  17. the one says:

Hey I donated $10.00 to Haiti…. Who the fuck promotes how much they donated?? Only a loser that is doing it for the wrong reasons! You will never hear about how much Jay or Bono donate, just know that Jay is hanging with one of nicest and biggest humanitarians in the world being Bono. He as done so much for the black race in the past 20 yrs especially in Africa!! I dare you fagots to say something against him!! Jay has truly arrived now that he’s with Bono and the 2 of them together will be doing some big things!! Bigger and better things that will make there music become secondary. Takes a special dude to be hanging with Bono and Swiss better thank Jay and Alicia for letting him into that circle as he would never have been talking with Bono without there influence!

  18. primetime says:

I would hope that Jay-Z and others in the Hip-Hop community would speak out and encourage many more people to give to Haiti. I’m not asking any one to promote how much they give but I think we need to stand up and take responsiblity for people who are in need. peace

  19. Char says:

How much did they give out of pocket?
    hmmm?
