Freddie Gibbs Followed 50′s Blueprint

Thursday, January 28 2010 8:07 AM EST | Posted by: B.Dot | Posted in: Blog, Focus

Gangsta Gibbs tells MTV that he followed 50 Cent’s mixtape hustle to get signed to Interscope Records in 2005. Unfortunately he was dropped two years later.

“I locked myself on the fourth floor of Interscope — there wasn’t no development, there was nobody telling me what to do, how to write hooks. Every lyric came from me, every concept, just a depiction on my life,” he explained. “There was no telling me how to do this, proper etiquette — there was no artist development at all. That was something I had to take upon myself and do on my own. My time over there wasn’t a total waste; it made me a smarter businessman.”

A double dose of Mimi, which both can be found on her upcoming Angels Advocate remix album. Up top, is some red hot fun with Nicki Minaj that pretty much looks better than the actual track. Down bottom, Mariah slows it down with Ne-Yo while Nick Cannon sits in the director’s chair.

A track that did not make The Ecstatic sees the light of day. My guess is the sample was never cleared? This should’ve been a keeper.

Lupe Concurs With Bill O’Reilly

Wednesday, January 27 2010 6:06 PM EST | Posted by: B.Dot | Posted in: Blog, Focus

Speaking with MTV, Lupe addresses Bill O’Reilly‘s comparison of Chicago’s South Side to Haiti. Pardon Bill’s hyperbole, but nothing comes close to the conditions in Haiti. Prior to the quake, the nation was (is) the poorest in the Western Hemisphere. In 2008, 80% of the population lived under the poverty line. Obviously, that number’s since increased. Third world democracy, indeed.
