Whether he was going by Jay Dee or J Dilla, he was always he could lace any artists with what they needed. He could produce for the Busa Rhymes types as well as the Common and Badu types. Versatility was never a question.

When he focused, he could spit too. His beats and a few of his sixteens were the only thing that made Fantastic Vol 2 the classic that it still is. Reppin’ the D and the whole micwest in his own quiet way before Em even had a deal. I truly believe he was truly about to get his shine on with the attention Ye brought to that whole native tongue-esque movement. One of if not the best to ever do it, whatever shine he missed his legacy will receive in tribute for years to come. Hope he’s restin’ in peace……
