At a press conference from the “We Are The World” recording session, Weezy made the following statement to the shocked and surprised room full of journalists before he exited.

I think it’s amazing what’s been done for Haiti. But I also think it’s amazing what hasn’t been done for New Orleans.

Your thoughts?

  3. R.O.E. says:

I agree 100%. We we’re quick to help Haiti but slow to aid our own when they were in need.

  4. Toya says:

Weezy has a point. American ADD. The tsunami, Katrina… “OMG! We need to help!” Then a couple months later, the country as a whole has lost interest.

  5. AK says:

A positive that could be taken from this is that at least it shows America has learnt from what they didn’t do back then and actually made an effort to not let that happen again.

  6. drizzy says:

finally someone comes out and said something about how we never helped new orleans

  7. Theloneus says:

Co-sign Wayne. Nigga spoke the truth. Celebrities rush to Haiti’s help which is great. I donated too. Where the FUCK were celebs when Mos Def was outside the MTV VMA’s having a LICENSED concert calling for attention to the people of New Orleans which he was then arrested. These hoe ass celebrities are just hypocrites. I don’t give a fuck whatchu say. Out of all these niggas I only trust Wyclef because he went there as soon as he heard about Haiti. These niggas just doin it for their image. That’s their career. We are their last things on their minds.

  11. Shut UP says:

    FUCK YOU LIL WAYNE!!!

LIL Wayne DOES NOT give a shit about new orleans but always find away to mention us in a song or an interview. There are arrtist that have done more shit for this city than he have and hes FROM HERE. He donated his money and got the fuck. So my question to you lil Wayne is WHAT THE FUCK HAVE YOU DONE FOR YOUR CITY SINCE hurricane katrina [2005]? Bitch you dont even live here HOLLYWOOD ASS NIGGA…. Hollygrove dont even respect your ass no more…

That nigga full of shit with this ignorant ass statement. you shouldnt even b mentioning haiti and hollygrove in the same sentence. especially since we had OPPOSITE presidents during these disasters..

    LOCK THIS NIGGA UP ALREADY!!!!!!!!!

  12. Robot says:

He’s only in it because Eminem is.

  13. clos1881 says:

I love it Wayne and to me I might sound like a cynic, but this we are the world shit is bullshit I think that most of these entertainers helping hati right now isn’t doing it for the right reasons I think its kinda like the in thing to do right now like you gotta have a charity kinda like its this years must have accessory.

  14. I'm Your Future Boss! says:

Can someone inform this fool that haiti is the poorest country in the western hemisphere and not Government Assistance poor but Dirt Poor.

  15. dat koon nigga says:

da first time diz nigga said somthn smart

  16. james says:

I’m going to get chewed up for this but I don’t care.
What happened in Haiti is sad yes, very sad.
But when it boils down to it that’s their problem not ours.

  17. Kasgre01 says:

    Co-Sign Wayne…

  18. FF says:

my nigga weezy dont give a fuck!

    PREACH NIGGA!

    co-sign wayne

  19. YMBITCH says:

hahahaha the white guy at the end

    “OOOoo GOOD POINT”!

  20. Nathaniel says:

james i’m not going to dignify that with a response.

but yo, yes wayne is telling the truth.

and before somebody tries to pull the “what has WAYNE done for New Orleans” shit, ask yourself 1. what have you done? and 2. how much can one nigga…celebrity or otherwise REALLY do alone?

he doesn’t have a platform to really ride for NO other than expressing his anger in music. i’ll say this. everything the nigga knew was in NO. so i can’t bring myself to say “he dont give a fuck!” cuz i’m an outsider. but i know people from there that families lost everything…and please understand, its a lot worse, devastation wise, than people realize.

new orleans really got fucked over. and there would really take a nation-wide movement to see to it that the people that have history there get their just-do. i respect that wayne put that shit out there, raising awareness is a move. and its the truth. regardless, the truth is always right on time.

  21. young 23 says:

Thats Prolly the realest shit he said his whole career but why u aint make a song for new orleans and made it sell plat in a week like your album Lil wayne is N.O Hands down juvi was semi HA HA

  22. DDotOmen says:

he deserves to be taken off “You Played Yourself” for this.

  23. hotbox says:

maybe wayne is off the syrup for real

  24. tiffymo says:

I totally agree with him and I have been saying that since it happened…we have our own problems and they have theirs…I must say I did donate but lawd what about New Orleans…like are we even apart of the US??? Everybody was so quick to help Haiti but New Orleans is family and we had to swim and sit on roofs and bridges for a couple of days…they out there pulling people up asap…we not to long ago just stopped finding Katrina bodies…I’m just saying…

  25. is says:

I wholeheartedly agree. while my heart and prayers went to the Haitian people, too many of our own at home are still in need. Nawlins STILL isn’t back in order. We’re spending a LOT to help Haiti, but this much aid hasn’t been sent to other needed countries: Philippines, India, Samoa, ETC, ETC, ETC.

When’s America going to take care of home first?

  26. SoulRebel says:

I agree that we def should have helped our own, but does that mean we shouldnt lend a helping hand to another country because we fucked up in the past? There’s a bunch of people on here talking about “Nobody helped during Katrina…” I just want to know, “Did you help during Katrina?” Probably not… I supported Katrina, donated money, clothes, volunteered at shelters when the Katrina survivors were placed in other cities… I’ve donated 3 times more money for the Haiti relief because the situtation is far worse than Katrina… All this pointing fingers and blaming folks for not doing what they were supposed to do in the past is just a waste of time!! I wish people did their homework on the history of Haiti.. AMERIKKKA owes Haiti! “we” owe Haiti! lets just come together and do whats right.. Keep New Orleans and Haiti in your prayers.. lets continue to build!! Peace Universal Family!

  27. psufan55 says:

Waynes just tryin to make up for pickin against the saints in nfc champ game, lost alot of respect for him after that, he was supposed to forever remain faithful new orleans. two faced

  28. Chipped Tooth Condition says:

smartest shit wayne ever said in his life

  29. Interscope Employee says:

    shut the fuck up wayne

  30. nevermindmyname says:

Im not even from New orleans and i felt the same way as wayne when this earthquake shit went down..I mean it seem like they donated for 3 weeks and stoped..This shit is so funny to me how everyone jumping to there rescue..When, if Katrina wasnt on the news..We would have never knew it happen! This shit is so damn sad that people think people in new orleans is still not suffering form that downfall..Just irks the fuck out of me! Im sorry im not giving them people shit..I feel sorry for them but “LEAVE IT UP TO GOD” he got them…

  31. Dee says:

    @shut up – word up!

  32. Goose says:

I agree with Lil Wayne somehwat. But in reality the scale of these disasters are completely different. The death toll in Katrina was about 1000. The death toll in Haiti is nearing 100k and still hasn’t stopped rising.

So in response to monies contributed to the rebuilding of Katrina

“President Bush’s urging, the U.S. Senate quickly approved $10.5 billion in aid for victims September 1, 2005. The U.S. House of Representatives voted and approved on the measure Friday, September 2, 2005 without any debate. President Bush requested an additional $51.8 billion on September 7. Congress approved that funding package the next day.”

Amount of money raised for Katrina in donations:
In all, $4.25 billion was donated to charities for Katrina relief.
“It was over $4 billion in philanthropic support — the largest one-time response in the history of American philanthropy or the world for that matter,” Stamp said. “The vast majority of the money at this point is gone,” he said.

What is actually being or has been done with the money, who knows. We are likely to see the same type of thing happening with all the donations and aid money being sent to Haiti.

There was also a huge international response to the disaster in Katrina. Pretty much the same countries and agencies that are assiting in Haiti now.

There was definitely a huge screw up in the initial speed of the response to Katrina, but dont front like millions and millions of dollars weren’t donated. Don’t front like it didnt get vast media coverage. Don’t front like their wasn’t a telethon .

  33. Silk the shocker says:

I think James should pick up a history book.

  34. SoulRebel says:

Thank you Goose!!! Its like folks think just because one group of people fucked up that we should just go ahead and not help another country in need to keep it fair smh… thats the problem with America/ and alot of Americans… everything is a “I wash your back, if you wash mine” situation smh

  35. joe says:

really… he moved to Miami but he still helped out the N.O. if u remember cause he paid for a playground to be rebuilt and shit but his crib there gon and he still rep N.O. and what kinda bitch say “lock him up already” lmao aint no such thing as somebody real saying lock anyone up
whats wrong with moving though plenty of people move to better places when they get rich and u woulda did the same thing atleast he still go to N.O. and put it on

  36. hmm says:

Uh ok but what has been done for Haiti? Cause just like N.O. the people there arent seeing none of that donation money and barely any aid and i’m sorry but Weezy while you say that I don’t see you going all out for N.O. instead you are the pussy monster so please let’s not make it seem like he’s all Huey Newton all of a sudden. Clef is on the front lines for his country meanwhile all you do is get dusted and talk isht so sorry I don’t respect that statement coming from YOU. Also everyone co-signing him don’t act like ya’ll didnt dismiss N.O. as well and went on with your lives because I never saw or heard any post-Katrina rallies or cry to arms in 2006, 2007, 2008, or 2009. It’s sad that there is no sense of humanity oh yeah and it has not even been a month since the quake so to @nevermindmyname your 3 week cutoff time table is on schedule for Haiti to after Superbowl weekend it’s over so ya’ll wont need to be “envious” or “jealous” anymore of aid those people will never see. SMH

  37. hmm says:

Oh and here’s a lil info Wayne Haiti and N.O. are tied together deeper than you think and not just on the disaster front

  38. ceorealtalk says:

AMERICA IS SO FUCKING RACIST AGAINST BLACK AMERICANS THATS WHY THE RED CROSS IS STEALING THIS MONEY LIKE THEY STOLD KATRINAS

  39. dmc says:

thanks for stating the obvious and sayin what so many other people are sayin Wayne

  40. SoulRebel says:

#PREACH @hmm!!!! PREACH PREACH PREACH!!! Shit, if it werent for HAITI, there wouldnt be a NEW ORLEANS!!!! Now lets stop cosigning with Lil Wayne and lets get a book out and do your damn history!!

  41. koa29 says:

Agree with Dwayne… this ran through my mind when i saw the outpour of support for Haiti… I love the fact that America stood up and took a stance for Haiti, but where was everyone when Katrina ruined N.O. ?

  42. CheezyDoDo says:

Some of the realest shit he has ever said…

  43. FrankTalk says:

To expand a bit on @Nathaniel’s statement and respond to others:

Wayne had every right to feel that way and express that. But please do not get caught up in the divisions. How many folks in here co-signing Wayne came Down bottom after Katrina?
    *crickets*
If you stay in the US, and have the means and ain’t been down to NO for anything other than Mardi Gras and Essence, you speak from shaky ground.

The folk in Haiti and New Orleans is essentially from the same stock. They were both part of France’s empire. After Ayiti (Haiti), buss France’s ass, they made it nearly impossible for the French to maintain any land in North America. The Louisiana Purchase followed and New Orleans became part of the U.S. So the “we” and “they” argument and attitude is played.

It is still too early to tell if the fervor will die-down over Haiti and what the lasting impact of U.S. involvement will be. But we could all always be looking out and advocating for the real “US.”

  44. FrankTalk says:

He also could have stayed for commentary, instead instead of bouncing like a child who has made a ‘smart’ remark. Eff the dramatic effect.

    jus sayin.

  45. hmm says:

    @FrankTalk case closed.

  46. nirus xhonda says:

I AGREE WITH HIM..WHO SAID THAT LOL..BUT HE SOME WHAT RIGHT I AGREE.

  47. claude banks says:

Trying to get your shit straight after you fucked up your NFC championship pick, huh Wayne? It’s too late, shipe.

  48. Willie mcfly22 says:

Weezy is right to feel that way. It’s his hometown so of course he feelin that way. I would feel the same if the bay or sum had sone big tragedy. I always wondered why we go way out of our way for these other countries ad we got plenty probs in our own but that’s anotha subject…

  49. YVELLE VALMOND says:

OK HE HAVE A POINT BUT REMEMBER 1. BUSH WAS IN CHARGE BAC THEN 2. HAITI IS A WHOLE ISLAND 3. OBAMA IS DOIN WAT HE CAN DO 4 N/O. LISTEN IM HAITIAN I LIVE IN NORTH MIAMI WE ARE A POOR ISLAND AND IT TOOK THIS 4 PPL 2 SEE THAT. 50. real says:

well the technology was not there to support as it as now.

  51. Ac@pella! says:

No disrespect to Haiti, but I BEEN sayin this shit all month since the earthquake happened…It’s kinda backwards, like, these niggaz (and I’m talkin bout white ppl included) jumped up quick then a mufucka to save a country that prolly didn’t like us/fuck wit us before we started helpin ’em after the quake, since we used to turn their immigrants away at the border ALL THE TIME, but was NOWHERE to be found when A STATE IN OUR OUR OWN FUCKIN’ COUNTRY was flooded and ppl were shown the terror and live deaths, looting, and desperation of N.O.’s faces. But i took how long to save our own ppl??? A FUCKIN WEEK!…That’s like choosing to take ur friend in over ur mother if they both lost their houses to foreclosure. “Ummm, I think I’ll let this friend I seldomly fuck with stay with me until they get back on their feet instead of the lady that gave me birth. She can find anutha family member to shack up with. It’s BACKWARDS!…

  55. Nuttyboy says:

The Difference is BUSH vs Obama.
The Previous administration failed Katrina and Obama learned from it.
Please don’t get caught up in a division because all of these people are the same i.e Africans.
I guarantee you if that shit happened in West Virginia or somewhere like that Bush would have been all over it.

  56. FUCK EM says:

WAYNE IS RIGHT IF YOU THINK ABOUT IT

IF YOU GO TO NEW ORLEANS RIGHT NOW IT STILL LOOK THE SAME WAY IT WAS IN 2005 THE MONEY WE SEND OR GATHER UP TO SEND WHERE DOES IT HELP OUT IF WE SEND IT….. IF IT STILL LOOK LIKE 2005 DISASTER…. SO OF MONEY WE SEND DIDN’T DO NOTHING FOR THE TOWN UNLESS OF MONEY WENT TO THE CORPORATIONS OR COMPANIES TO REBUILD THEM AND MAKE THEM STRONGER AND THE RICH GET RICHER AND THE POOR GET POORER

SO THAT TELL ME WAYNE ALL READY KNOW WHAT IS GOING ON HE SAID IT IN HIS SONG ” DROP THE WORLD ”

WAYNE SAID (I know what they don’t wanna tell you Just hope you’re heaven-sent, and you’re hell-proof)

    ILLUMINATI NIGGA

THE REASON WE HELPING OUT HAITI IS BECAUSE WE GOING DOWN THEIR TO TAKEOVER THERE LAND AND BUILD OUR SHIT THERE WHAT WE BEEN TRYING TO DO FOR YEARS

  57. Ac@pella! says:

That shit isn’t affecting ur life, so let that shit go and move on. It’s funny how niggaz talk about crazy shit they’ve never seen, but heard so much of. And no nigga, God doesn’t count. He has the right to do unexplainable things. But anyways, so I guess u know the Lochness Monster and Bigfoot really exist cause u’ve heard ppl say they’ve seen those mufuckaz in the woods and the sea huh??? Nigga please, that Illuminati shit is all in ur head until it ACTUALLY pops out from a dark alley and punches u in the fuckin’ face. U don’t know what the fuck ur gonna do in life in the next few days let alone know that the “illuminati” is gonna go down there and take over Haiti dumbass…smmfh…stick yoself nigga…

  58. Psike Deezie says:

I’m in New Orleans right now. I was here working as essential personnel of one of the ONLY hospitals up and running in New Orleans during the storm (Ochsners) . I was here, and I STAYED to help provide help for MY city. I served 10 years in the military and it hurt my heart to see the response from America. I have been halfway around the world 4 times, helping others, and defending OUR country. But when it came out my own city it was like it didn’t matter. It’s like we will get to you when we get to you. I’m still salty about the shit… it just shows you what it’s all about. Shit that happened still isn’t being reported to the country that happened when the storm hit……shit like troops touching down and setting up shop at the only hospital only to DENY people from getting in. Common knowledge is, if they got here, then they could get people out. Not even to go on and on…..no one cared then…nobody cares now. I’m glad that Wayne at least said something about it. People are still broken down in my city. A damn shame. It ain’t even a black and white issue…everyone lost down here. To busy using our tax money to bomb and destroy other nations. Research how much it took to support Bush and his fucking “Shock and Awe” aka Slaughter that took place in Iraq. That alone could have more than impacted our situation here. Fucking assholes rule the world.

  59. FUCK EM says:

    @Ac@pella!

HOW CAN I LIVE MY LIFE WHEN US AS PPL GET OUR STRINGS PULL EVERYDAY THAT MEAN I CANT LIVE MY LIFE WITHOUT DYING FROM THIS SICK WORLD AND GOING TO GOD KINGDOMS …… YOU HEARD WHAT MICHEAL JACKSON SAID IN THE DOCMENTARY THIS IS IT HE SAID …..WE HAVE 4 YEARS TO GET IT RIGHT UNTIL THEN PEACE 2012 UNPLUG FROM THE MATRIX AND LOOK AT THE WORLD FROM OUTSIDE THE BOX

  60. FUCK EM says:

    @ Ac@pella!

AND ONE MORE THEN IF YOU NOT READY FOR THIS SICK WORLD YOU SHOULD JUST CRAWL BACK IN YOUR MOTHER WOMB BECAUSE YOU IS NOT READY TO HEAR THE TRUTH…… WE WAS ALL BORN IN SIN AND WE ALL GOING TO ALL DIE IN SIN PEACE

  61. Yanga says:

  62. FUCK EM says:

    @ Yanga

YOU KNOW WHAT IM AM BROKE AND I LOVE IT…. MONEY DONT MAKE ME I MAKE LIFE…..I RATHER STAY BROKE THEN SELL MY SOUL TO THE DEVIL TO USE PPL TO GET TO THE TOP….

I sold my soul to the devil, I know it’s a crappy deal. At least it came with a few toys like a Happy Meal.”-Kanye West

  63. So Icy Boi! says:

@FUCK EM you right ……….. niggaz tried of hearing about the “Illuminati” because des niggaz pussy dey scared of the truth stop living in the dark THE TRUTH HURTS we live in a world full of lies and evil ….and yea da same people dat was donating money to New Orleans ….where did the money go ???? the same people donating money to Haitit where is ya money goin to ??? THE ILLUMINATI
like Lil Wayne said in the interview a long time ago he said “Hurricane katrina was all planned plotted and strategize” ………. Haiti was planned the same way ….. Lil Wayne sold his soul to the devil but he still be speaking the truth sometimes …………. What yall niggaz gonna do when the next government man made disaster (2012) happen ???

  64. J.Spfld says:

I about time someone has said something bout that… I love that people have donated to Haiti but its sad when us here in the States donated more money to Haiti then to New Orleans when Katrina hit. Just Saying!

  65. FrankTalk says:

I wish some you of you would read books instead of listening to rap music. What does it benefit you to type the words illuminati? Do you know who or what you are taking about? Does it fix or change a situation you want fixed or change? Or does it make you a scared and complacent coward- Unable to do anything but proselytize on community boards?
If it’s not one thing it’s a mudderfux’n ‘nother wit you damn chicken-little the sky is falling, shook tough guys. 2012 too?!

I feel wayne on that Comment This Was kinda Like the Kanye George Bush Comment but not so becuz Wayne couldve went more in Depth But He Didnt While Kanye got Cut Off

But I feel Wayne on this comment its sad to see a local homeless family get snub while everybody wil willingly give money to foundations which it is unknown if your money is going to a place that will help

Outside of Wayne’s Georgia Bush and Tie My Hands Motherfuccas was not coming together to do songs and promote songs for Victims of Katrina there was no Hope for Katrina Cd for sale there was no we need to remake We Are The World or Anything like that

Like he said in an Interview Motherfuccas was tryin to help America Get Over the Fact Katrina Happened Instead of trying to help Motherfuccas in New Orleans get Over the Disaster and it being his hometown its not only a understandable comment its also a valid 1

They don’t have the same resources that the states have we can’t rush them off to a stadium and get the medical attention they need and mind you it took them how long to get there in the first place? If you really wanted to help N.O take some notes from Wyclef and noticed what he did and maybe you would understand why this whole earthquake and people wanting to help haiti turned into a big issue
