Bad news: Last night marked the debut of T-Pain’s animated show Freaknik: The Musical on Cartoon Network. Voiceovers included Rick Ross, Lil Jon, and Lil Wayne. Good news: Clever satire returns to the channel on May 2nd. Check out the rest of the show after the jump.

and i loved how they went at oprah, jesse, bill, and sharpton with that “boule” shit. our so-called leaders and “the credits to our race” are nothing but puppets, and rich, disconnected from the masses tools. it was controversial, and over the top. but black people can be over the top.
i think people that dislike stuff like this are hung up on “perpetuating stereotypes”, but there is truth in showing us at our worst, as well as at our best. WE do carry on like some of that nonsense in the musical, no doubt. and if we haven’t learned by now that “acting” like black people are all like barack obama STILL isn’t going to change what “they” think of us by now, we’ll never learn.
can’t wait for the DVD…and the new boondocks episodes, yes yes.

but…i’m from atlanta…so somewhere in my subconscious i was getting nostalgic, shit struck a cord wit a nigga, smh.
@Will one of the animators of boondocks worked on this shit i think. i hope that new boondocks is as dope as season 1. that one was better than season 2, imo.
I thought it was pretty funny too and yeah I was down in Atlanta during those freaknic years so I was getting a little nostalgic too lol. I wish they had Freaknic (the ghost/T-Pain) in more scenes cause he was funny. And to the person who wrote this blog entry its not a series, its just a one time show but it wouldn’t hurt if they could make it into a series. Boondocks ain’t gonna be here but one more season so why not see whose next.
i though that the show was very funny, n kinda creative! i mean i read on another site that alot of ppl where giving it bad views, about steryotypes and stuff, when basically u cant really say he’s wrong for putting it out there when, we watch tv, listen to the music, and some of use automaitically wanna be just like the hiphop videos, i mean so for thoses that said that there offended by it an all that, just shut up, n move on, it was just a cartoon, i loveed it just like i love the boondocks, but u gotta think bout that too, boondocks is just the same, so its not difference! an i do hope they make this a series as well, it would be nice to start having more black cartoons! keep up the work TPAIN.

This is degrading to people of color. For one, we are always ridiculed by white folks and this only makes it worse. I am ashamed and deeply saddened that our own people would portray us this way. I am straight from the south and live in Atlanta. I pesonally don’t appreciate being called a bitch and a hoe. I pray that our people will one day wake up and see that this is racist entertainment from our own. This only give the white people more to conversate concerning blacks. We have come a long way people ( black President). Can you show our kids about the intelligent blacks who have done so much?
The reality is that It is a shame how we still stoop to such low levels of “entertainment”. We need to see that we are being laughed at , no one is laughing with us. Black people have come too far to be shown as shallow people who only smoke weed, rap, and look for “hos”. There are many educated black people who have worked too hard to lift our people and break these negative stereotypes. Even Dave Chapelle stopped his show when he noticed a white person laughing a little too hard at what he was doing. Lets not not shine more negative light toward the black community people. Not to mention what this teaches the kids who see it and think that it is cool. We can do better.
Are you serious? It was those “step n fetchit’s” that paved the way for the progression of blacks into radio and television. Take this with a grain of salt, its all entertainment! It may not be your cup of tea, but the people who work on this and lent their voices to these characters are the same people who have been called out for their rap lyrics and material they produce, yet we “all” buy it! No need to attack blacks for portraying “ghetto stereotypes” it has happened before and will happen again. But what is enlightening to me is I really enjoyed it! So stop hating on progress and be about changing those things you can, leave what you cannot to others.
The problem is it’s funny and it’s not…I laughed at some of it. But heres the problem. if we allow our selves to be viewed like this then not only will our kids act this way but the world will act like we enjoy being looked at like that. No other race makes fun of their own kind the way black americans do. No one..Wwhat you think is just jokes become perception and perception is reality . It wont be long after this cartoon that black comedians make fun of it. Then white comedians. but What most of you dont get is there not making fun of the cartoon there making fun of YOU.
If this cartoon was created by a white person, we (Black people) would be mad as hell. So why is it okay cause it comes from black rappers. It’s soo sad that people dont get this!! As an Black man; when I walk down the street, if someone yells “Hey Nigger”….I don’t turn my head to say “Who Me”. We as blacks/browns need to disassociate ourselves with “Niggers” the way white people don’t think anything of “Trailer Trash” and “Hillbillies”. This Freaknik Show was funny as all hell. Sure there are stereotypes and things that are derogatory in it but lets be honest. That is the very thing that tickles our funny bone. Weather we have a relative kinda sorta like that person or Man Man and dem from around the way. I am well versed and well traveled. I know who I am, I own who I am and more importantly I know who I am not. Enjoy this funny show. Don’t internalize it and if you see a knucklehead nigger doing something niggafied while your with your white friends…don’t even bat an eye. Let that nigger do what he does. Niggers aren’t going anywhere. Black people are doing wonderful amazing and triumphant things everyday.
