Hate it or love it, but the RIAA has announced that Lil Wayne’s Rebirth is certified gold. Despite its premature release, the album still hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Rap Albums chart and landed at No. 4 on Billboard’s R&B/Hip-Hop Album chart. No need to abort now.

    1. Wayne has put in the hard work to have this success, it didn’t just happen on its own. By staying active and pushing his shit he got the PROPER presence by making MUSIC for his fans if you like it or not. Brothers like 50 have a negative internet presence online…THIS IS 50, all they are doing is pumping gossip and beef. I say 50 because he’s the KING of this dizzy nigga phase we are going through right now in hip hop.     there are a couple of joints on here i actually like. (surprised the fuck outta me). to think, the nigga from the hot boyz and get off the corner is now making Rebirth. he ACTUALLY pulled off this album. it never sounds forced, is why i say that.

    wayne is interesting to watch. i wonder what he’ll do when he gets out of prison.

    OK I don’t like when Lil Wayne auto-tune rapping/singing…
    but I think this album reflects his real style… this is actually not a tipical Rap album so I dont want to compare to other rap albums, but it’s definitely good… deservs to be gold.

    At this point in the game Hip-Hop in general needs to take any commercial successes they can get to keep their standing in the market.

    There was a huge record industry boom in the ’80s following the success of Thriller, giving company more revenue and thus bigger budgets for all their projects, paving the way for acts like George Michael etc to become mega stars.

    The bottom line is the shareholders of a music company look at the category and the sales/revenue.

    If hip-hop wins across the board they’ll allocate more money to hip-hop acts.

    Bottom line — you didn’t buy it, you have nothing to complain about.

    If you really have a ‘problem’ with who’s successfu,l help rig J. Cole or Royce 5’9″‘s record sales and buy 20 copies when they drop
