“Kidnap the President’s wife without a plan”—Nasir Jones

There’s another Jay in my life. Electronica. I call him Jay Elect. Don’t know how it started. Don’t know how it will end. Wait, I know the origin. Twitter. Dude was a beast on that thing. He entertained me with his antics. Even had a baby on that muthafucka. True story. The social networking Gods would often banish him for tweetin’ too much. And he would email me to relay his messages to the masses. I didn’t even know the nigga like that? But I obliged.

Name keep poppin’ up. Just Blaze co-signed him awhile back but I never fully paid attention. Wasn’t my cup of tea. Or so I thought. “Abracadabra”? Love the Steve Miller joint. A tribute to Esco? Um, that’s rich. And what the hell is “Dimethyltriptamine” anyways? “Exhibit A” almost roped me in. But is it called “Transformations”? Who’s makes rap records for Guitar Center? Confused like Young Buck.

Then luck struck. Or the mighty hand of Mr. Smith who on Tony Toca’s show last fall let loose a portion of a song that would become “Exhibit C”. A game changer. From cult following to national recognition. Instant classic. So good. You should and you will PAY for it. Play it over and over and over again. Watch him perform the second verse acapella. Flip cam him. Flip cam him again. The only one who didn’t like it worked for me. Ha! Shit, Russell Rush’s still rollin’ with it.

But now, what’s a bro to do? How’d you follow that up? And should you? Act II talk came and went. No one held a grudge. As far as I know, the lyrical dynamo is still unsigned post the mysterious Decon project. Does he even want a record deal? My homie Ms. Yee is handlin’ some of his biz so I know things are most likely in the works but like you guys I’m fiendin’ to know what’s next? But really, is it worth the risk? I’m scared and I’m nervous.

One song. It can change everything. Ask Lloyd Banks who was irrelevant til he got his car song on. Like the other Jay often does, Elect’s mastered his moment. And by not doin’ anything else has sustained it. You’re only as good as your last record. Stakes is high. You love Nas. Well now you are our savior. Save us. Hip-hop’s not dead—if we still believe. We got you. Do you got us?

No fluke. We want future. A hero ain’t nothin’ but a Subway sandwich but you’ve managed to tug on our heartstrings, no homo. Made us love the culture again. You must fulfill promise. So take your time and do it right. You better do it right. Tonight, I heard you’re gonna be a guest at the N.E.R.D. show? We all know what song you’re gonna do. But none of us know what you’re gonna do next. You included. Good luck, friend.
