  22. 106 says:

    Jay doesnt write on paper he writes in his head. Jay makes all his rhymes in his head whole songs his whole career.

  23. blaqscorpio says:

    When he says “When I’m writing a song”, it doesn’t necessarily mean pen and paper. It’s the same like in DOA when he says “The only rapper to REWRITE history WITHOUT a PEN”. Even if it’s just in his head, he’s still writing.

  24. Lyrical Murderer says:

    If anyone in this comments section starts listing Jay’s hip-hop stats, I promise to go nuclear…and list Eminem’s stats (which are downright mindboggling).

    I swear and promise!

  28. mac DIESEL says:

    @ DGtheEnigma

    WHO THE FUCK IS TALKIN’ ABOUT EMINEM??? GO POP YA SHIT ON AN EMINEM POST!!! FUCKIN’ EMINEM STANS!!!! SMH!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  29. damone says:

    @DG you always bring up Em we know u love him but we talking Hov the g.o.a.t… Em is. Phil Mickelson, Steve Nash. Jay is tiger woods, Michael Jordan ya dig.

  30. DGtheEnigma says:

    @mac DIESEL – No.

    @damone – Lol…Steve Nash? Come on now, Em’s got championships! Hell, he even has a championship over your beloved Hovie Hov (see: Renegade).

    I love Jay-Z actually, but based on stats alone — not business ventures — he’s not the GOAT!

  31. DGtheEnigma says:

    Confession: Jay-Z is the closest thing to the GOAT there will ever be in hip-hop. But he’s still living, so….

  32. c.j says:

    hovi is home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! G.O.A.T….U BETTER BELIEVE IT….WHY DID HE NOT INCLUDE HIS WIFE bootilicious IT MADE IT TO THE DIC TOO OR HE DOESN’T WANTS TO BE UPSTAGE Hahah ,jay u know u are still mr knowles she gave u that international appeal ,never forget that big man………….the least u can do is acknowledge her.u know without her this white people will just look at u like another “rapper ” ……….STEP YOUR COOKIES UP HOV……

  33. TYBO2020 says:

    BLAH BLAH BLAH..GET OFF IT..

  34. DGtheEnigma says:

    To C.J.’s point: why does no one ever mention that Jay’s increased popularity coincided with dating Beyonce?

    Prior to B, Jay was relegated to vacations in the South of France (and mediocre albums — see Blueprint 2) due to Nas’s etherization.

    Hey, doesn’t matter, but I’m just saying….

  35. chitlin coon says:

    dg . you are the hater of the day! congrats!

    south wins again

  36. 106 says:

    Make ur own opinions people. Jay was that nigga before B. Im confused how Jay getting married to B is the reason he the best. Jay isnt that big overseas first off. Yall some Em fans thats why you think dudes shoudnt marry fine bitches. Jay getting with B was imo what he supposed to do he stay winning getting with B was another win. Yall gay ass niggas wouldnt understand.

  37. damone says:

    Lmao the haters sound like 50 on here. Jay just made a classic in the blueprint before B and wasn’t het first single feat jay-crazy in love? Jay is from the hood and not a pretty boy rapper or white so for him to be where he is just crazy.” They got me in a mag for about half a billi and ur ass ain’t Lilly white.that means the shit that he write must be illly”

  40. DGtheEnigma says:

    @damone

    That’s not the point. Jay wasn’t as big before Beyonce. Can’t the Hov stans at least admit that much? Even with a classic album, biggest rap battle ever, etc., Jay was nowhere near as big (especially with women) before Beyonce.

    Doesn’t make him less of anything…just an observation.

  41. CP says:

    Everyone blows the whole Jay-Z doesnt write his songs way out of proportion. He DOES write his songs he just memorizes the lyrics when he is recording it!!!!!

  42. Ac@pella! says:

    Good foreword Hov…Jay is right. A lot of the new artists, discovered and non-discovered need 2 either read this of hear this. The world of music would be a better place. 🙂

  43. pifflighty says:

    GOOD POST!…JAY IS THAT DUDE!…THIS THE REASON WHY HE STILL RELEVANT TAKE NOTES NIGGAZ!

  44. Rhyme says:

    @Jermz Dash

    You keep believing that. How come Jay-Z cant freestyle off the dome? When you don’t freestyle off the dome, you’re spitting a written.

    Consult youtube if you need proof.

  45. DGtheEnigma says:

    Jay-Z has alot of money. Jay-Z sold alot of albums. Jay-Z has a hot wife. Jay-Z is the creator of hip-hop. Jay-Z is ruler of all he surveys. Jay-Z is greatest person that a great person could ever be.

  46. So Icy Boi! says:

    EM vs. JAY

    Lyrics- Preference Tied
    Records sold- EM
    Flows- Preference Jay
    Paid-Jay
    Legendary status- Preference Tied

    CONS- Jay can be too watered down and EM can be down right corny.

  54. BIG L would have murdered ya favorite rapper! says:

    boy DG goes in on Jay at every given sunday thru saturday…lol

    but i think by Jay saying when he writes was basically going with the flow of the interview, why stop and clarify “oh yeah i dont write” What i got from the next few lines down proved he does’nt write. Who can actually sit back and write rhymes for a 3 verse song in the course of 5 minutes. Now if u in the studio inside the booth and got the track laid with the hook or the where the hoo comes in, you can just flow thru it. 16 bars are 45second rhymes, so 3 verses should take a person 1:35 seconds to do but in actuality at least 3 minutes to 5 minutes and thats after laying down your 2nd track vocals and then your adlibs. So Jay said he should be done in 5 minutes, if it take 20 then it might not work. An intelligent person can see that he talkin bout finishing a song with no pen and paper. To sum it up….JAYZ DOES’NT WRITE RHYMES and no producer has ever said “thats bullshit, i see jay write @ every studio gig”

    Renegade was classic and EM flow was dope but JAYZ said 2better relevant verses. Renegade was Em song anyways, Jay just bought it, laid 2 verses and that song helped BP1 become classic status.

  59. B. Suga says:

    Great intro piece by Jay! I love it!! And, I totally agree with him on MJ’s “Off The Wall” being a better melodic & lyrical album. It’s my favorite by MJ.

  60. DGtheEnigma says:

    boy DG goes in on Jay at every given sunday thru saturday…lol

    ^^^^

    Thank you, thank you, thank you…you’re far too kind!

  61. blaqscorpio says:

    ^

    Lol at y’all complaining about “Jay dickriding”, like y’all dont do the same for y’all faves. Whether it’s Em, Nas, Pac, Wayne etc…

    GET REAL!

  62. BIG L would have murdered ya favorite rapper! says:

    @B SUGA, i kinda agree also but its hard cuz i love both albums of MJ. I never looked at the albums on a lyrical level until i was watching PURPLE RAIN and i thought that PURPLE RAIN was way more deep and lyrical than THRILLER but it was the performance of MJ that pushed THRILLER to 100 million in sales but i love that PURPLE RAIN album.

    People just dont make great freekin albums no more, they just make good albums.

  63. dajumpoff44 says:

    Hova!!You can hate all you want he is just that nice!Eat a dick if you really think Jay-Z is not nice on the MIC!!!He has done things for this Hip Hop lifestyle more than any other so keep your hate up,it just shows how stupid you really are!BROOKLYN!!!

  64. Renegade says:

    @DGtheEnigma

    Jay may not have been as big as he is now before Beyonce, but Beyonce is only a small factor. Around that time he was looking to consolidate his place as one of the greatest rappers before pushing onto more mainstream records. Nowadays he’s 40, with a wife and a whole host of resposibilities, his sole aim is now to make sure his albums are successful and do very well commercially. This is why he is now at his worldwide peak, Blueprint 3 was a great album for what it was, a mainstream hip-hop record and him collaborating with artists such as Alicia Keys and Rihanna only increased his appeal. Beyonce has been a small factor as to his increased success, but hardly something to make a point of seeing as there are other more significant factors.
