Kia Shine Addresses Absolut Allegation

Well, that didn’t take long. Two hours after our initial report, Twitter user wdynamite22 asked Kia Shine: “Lol ok so WHO really produced drakes You The Best?? @THEREALKIASHINE or Dj Absolut???” Kinfolk responded, “#hoodpolitics.#not abso! But he gave the head’s up that drake had used my joint.” And the plot thickens.

Kia Shine is a no-fucking-body, but he’s about his business and that’s why he’s getting money!
He did the beat for a song that Wayne rapped to. Drake was inspired by Wayne’s lyrics to do the chorus for the Best I Ever Had chorus.. and since Kia Shine produced the original track (that Wayne rapped the lyrics that Drake sampled) he gets a check. You can’t sample -or- be inspired by anybody else’s work without paying up! It doesn’t matter that Drake wasn’t inspired by Kia Shine’s beat per se but since he owned half of the publishing for the record he did with Wayne, Drake had to pay him to use ANY piece of that shit..

That’s called being about your business.

That’s a lesson for anybody trying to get into this business.. if your paperwork is right you can get paid!!!

  8. The Noid says:

Wait didn’t Boi 1da do the track? I thought Drake just quoted Kia Shine on the song which counted as a sample credit?

That’s probably the same dumb shit Drake said and that’s why Kia Shine owns 25% of his song!!!! Hahaha!!!!!

It’s funny you mention Jay-Z quoting BIG cause YES HE DOES pay.. check who’s listed under “Writer(s)” here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/I_Just_Wanna_Love_U_(Give_It_2_Me)

It’s called publishing.. everyone involved in writing a track (if their paperwork is correct and/or they’re not getting raped by a label) is entitled to a piece of the pie if someone else uses it. Kia Shine wrote the beat and the hook for the Lil’ Wayne song that Drake sampled lines from. That’s why you can have names like Christopher Wallace (after he died), Sean Combs and Deric Angelettie listed as a writer on a Jay-Z track. Same shit!

Hopefully for you, you’re not in this industry or your asshole would be the size of Texas..
