J.Cole Celebrates The Warm Up

A year ago today, Cole released his mixtape, The Warm Up. To commemorate the anniversary, Jermaine let loose this new freestyle and reminisced on last year’s project. Read up after the jump.

“The Last Stretch”

June 15th, 2009. A year ago today The Warm Up dropped. I’m taking this moment and appreciating all the love and support that I’ve received from yall. All that love ya’ll gave allowed me to hit the road and perform these songs for you before I even had a single out. It’s wild to me when I show up in places like Houston, Atlanta, Richmond, Ohio, University of Maryland, NYC, so many other cities and schools, and the whole crowd knows every word to every song. Seeing that it’s so early in my career, only 1 single out, that’s a blessing. Thank you.

A year later and people are still getting put on to The Warm Up every day. Slowly but surely ya’ll, just like it was supposed to. The album is coming, your patience is gonna pay off.

Thank you for real.

Ya’ll know I don’t like throwing out too much but fuck it, it’s a special day. A leaked freestyle never hurt nobody. AND Congrats to Drizzy Drake. This is obviously a special day too for that brother. Clap for em

yup folks !! the good ol J Cole is from the south…now go cry to your fav 39 yr old up top rappers who will never do over 10,000 again before you hate on the south.

We have wack…just like you have wack…and we have a lot more nice(recently) than you have had nice(recently)

South is so far in the lead ninjas!!!

  2. Ticket says:

So is it “Cole World” or is it”The Blow Up” either way we need more j cole hype

  3. THUNDERKUSH says:

“Imagine what my shit gonna sound like, if I told you that “The Warm Up” was just a soundbite”

  4. CBH says:

This guy gets it. Dope Track

  5. Post no billz says:

  7. robbyrob42 says:

I can’t explain it. Everytime he drops somethin new he makes my jaw drop a little further. I cant wait to see what this kid puts out on his album.

ITS OFFICIALLY BEEN ONE YEAR SINCE “THE WARM UP” AND ONE YEAR SINCE THIS KID STOLE THE GAME.

    J COLE!!!!! COLE WORLD!!!!!!

  8. the instigator says:

will the conspiracy theorists now be certain that j. cole was sending no shots drake’s way, having conratted the dude and requesting congrats from all? and i’m certain cole aint a 50cent-type ninja…..

  9. Interscope Employee says:

His debut album gonna be nothing but AMAZING!!!!!!!!

and the album title aint COLE WORLD or BLOW UP. He said it in an interview. He said he might use BLOW UP for something else (maybe for his next mixtape?)

  10. Young Sha says:

Cole jumping on the Diddy beat kinda late.

Cant wait for the new mixtape.

  11. Jay Fingers says:

Okay, so this is the only non-Blueprint 3 performance from J. Cole I’ve ever heard. And, um, yeah.

I mean, dude is nice, no doubt. But from the way y’all hype him up, especially in comparison to Drake, I was expecting more. In my admittedly hasty and perhaps ill-informed opinion, Cole is all technique and no charisma. Sure, he’s a proficient rapper but he doesn’t grab me. This is not interesting.

    *shrug*

  12. Jay Fingers says:

    @Tim Lee—Stay vigilant, citizen.

  13. OOPH says:

@Tim Lee VA Stand Up — STFU!

  14. wikkity says:

Even tho J. Cole did his thing(as usual) on this I must admit that a friend of mine actually killed this beat a while ago, posted back from December of last year. He’s from out here in Sacramento, CA workin on his first full mixtape/street album right now.My boi’s dope, check it out
    Sean Wonder – Angels http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GC2B6kKe3qI

  15. Nathaniel says:

that was dope… indeed. didn’t expect any less…

but, on this beat… i’m breaking it up:

Jay-Z “Where I’m From” > Lupe Fiasco “Angels” > and this J.Cole “The Last Stretch”

chef shallah rae and rick ross fall somewhere beneath the rubble. don’t even care to remember their efforts.

oh, and of course diddy and dirty money didn’t even chart, lol. garbage.

  16. yeahitsawrap says:

    j cole is dope

  17. real hip-hop ! says:

    dope!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. RICH1 says:

THIS IS INDEED REAL HIP-HOP! JUMP ON THIS RR, RADIO MTV. BUT NO T=ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY SO THEY PLAY THAT LAFFY TAFFY SHIT(DRAKE)

  19. RICH1 says:

IF HE WAS IN YOUNG MONEY IM SURE EVERYBODY WOULD HAVE JUMP ON HIS WAGON..

  20. Mars Blackmon says:

    J.Cole is just beyond nasty.

  21. !ShootDontPlease says:

the warm up hasnt left my car since i first heard it in september, j cole is the absolute truth

  22. 106 says:

Best thing bout Cole he just spits every track. “Born alone work alone die alone”

  23. MXL says:

    Jay Fingers says:

Okay, so this is the only non-Blueprint 3 performance from J. Cole I’ve ever heard. And, um, yeah.

    —————

You should really check out some of his other shit, fam. He’s got at least 3 mixtapes out there: “A Nigga From the ‘Ville,” “The Come Up” and “The Warm Up.” The kid’s dope. And he produces — not extremely well, but he’s far from terrible. Don’t judge the kid by one freestyle; give him a fair shake. You might like it. Peace.

  24. Kershel says:

Yo Chitlin, you think Big Boi’s album aint gonna do 10,000? Jay-Z’s next or Dretox isn’t doing 10,000? being 40 means shit. I aint hatin on Cole, dont get me wrong… just saying don’t forget WHY hip hop even exists, it’s the 40 year old mothafuckas who still rocking the game

  25. illaDeuce says:

i been telling you mothafuckas its the blow up, and you didnt believe me. NAH ITS COLE WORLD. shut up hoes. Anyway Ima enjoy these days of ppl appreciating j. cole, before he gets music videos out and starts getting hated on for doing it bigger.

  26. based says:

Cole Is To Nasty only real niggas understand

he murdered this but cole might be sending shots at drake on this

“niggas couldn’t fill my shoes couldn’t even try em on
showed yo lil ass love that’s how you take it 2 faced niggas couldn’t even tie my shoes laces”

you know how cole was wishing drake the best on his album and shit and saying he hopes drake sell a mill and shit.

but drake did that 9am in Dallas over Coles Who Dat and he did that bollywood flow freestyle shit

  27. Che-el-pibe says:

This niggas nasty wayyyyy better than drake

  28. chitlin coon says:

kershel, i feel you….but…. im talking about the folks who come and say the south is wack but wanna give a pass to j cole, jay elec, andre3k, big boi, pill, donnis, yelawolf, luda, ti, jeezy, bun, scarface, goodie mob, chamillionaire, lil brither, rick ross, dead prez, lil wayne, clipse(va is south), etc …just cuz some niggas soulja boyin on mtv dont mean that their aint someone chicken noodlin as well!!
    south wins again!

  29. Love2Luv says:

    J. Cole resuscitates the game….pure inspiration!

  30. illaDeuce says:

I just realized these were straight for drizzys head. he talked about giving him pound and how he smiled in his face, that all happened at the toronto blueprint 3 show backstage. I rmember Hov brought drizzy out, then after drizzy performed successful he went in and right after he calls j. cole out for star is born. I’m sayin thats prolly when they met.
