Showing off and making a big deal doesn’t have anything to do with race. It has to economic status. Poor and middle class people will always be impressed with people who actually make it big who came from little or no power. People idealize Julius Caesar to John Gotti because of their power and wealth. The fact that they didn’t have a boss. That is impressive to working class people. And gangsta rap is like gangster movies idealized fiction. I know people who love gangster rap, but if they favorite rapper showed up in Detroit they would wonder in their minds if they could rob them. Any one who really thinks a gangster rapper is what he saya he is in a rap song probably believes Pacino is a coke dealer or Deniro is a casino manager. That is not to say that no rappers have criminal past, but my ex mayor killed strippers and extorted car companies and drug dealers.
The Rap Game has become a soft white bread genre. The rough edge is slowly disappearing. A genre that is getting away from its roots of competition of being competitive. Rap has become “Neville Chamberlin” a genre of appeasers, people who doesn’t want too offend anyone. If I step on your toes I apologize and how can I make it up too you. Hence the decaying of an artist being able to carry his own album, he must have a boat load of features, we call them “AA” the Amistad Album. A bunch of backdown artist with no backbone anymore, the in your face attitude is what I found appealing, now its just a bunch of low level R&B artist rapping.
