New Music: Lupe Fiasco “B.M.F. (Building Minds Faster)” (Freestyle)

Saturday, July 24 2010 8:06 PM EST | Posted by: YN | Posted in: Blog, Music

As promised: Fiasco forges ahead with a freestyle over Rick Ross’ super smash. I think this could’ve been a lil better. But I do respect the song’s direction. Ha. I’m sure Atlantic‘s pleased too.

“Look who I attract, look at my inner circle
Bunch of street niggas, and a couple Erkles”

  2. JAYE says:

i thought it was pretty dope but if Mos would’ve done a remix u niggas would really be lost!
“shake off ya mastas, pray to God, build ya mind faster”- omg also the illuminati shit was pretty funny

  3. HIP_HOP_FAN012 says:

Do you haters not catch these punchlines? and he isn’t even trying

  4. ManInMiddle says:

Who cares if you don’t like it. It’s for intelligent gangsters. You must not be one. Build your mind faster!

  5. Craig says:

This is one of the hardest real rap songs I’ve heard all year whoever don’t like this is IGNORANT(its not about how it sounds its about what it says.) Wake yall asses up!!!

Nigga wake up, don’t join the army
Kill your own peoples, but fear Illuminatis?
and they ain’t even real, or are they?
But you ain’t even know, becuz you partay
too fuckin much, if you start to doubt
they already in yo mind, and comin’ out yo mouth
Its not a trick, nigga, it’s a trap
Survival of the fit, is what they aiming at
And niggas aint fit, fat as hell!
Fat in mind, body fat aswell

Pray to God; Build yo mind faster

So fuck Rick Ross and all that uplifting drug dealers bullshit. Rick Ross just put out his best album yet but the fact is he still a coon(I know alot of other rappers I listen to are aswell but on top of that Ross is also a fraud.

  6. Chip says:

This nigga Prolyfic claiming Lupe wrote for the Black Album?????

  7. Guest says:

he prolly did or helped with some creative tip…. Lu’s flow and steez is very similar to Jay IMO. Also, Lu and Jay been cool for a minute. He used to hang out with Jay at Bassline while he was puttin together the Black Album. Also Jay wanted to sign him to Roc-a-fella but Lu was gettin FnF together… and Jay was the exec producer of Food & Liquor if I’m not mistaken

  8. Word says:

I wonder if people realize the difference between a rappers album being better and a rapper just being better as a rapper than another nigga.

    Maybe Teflon Don > Recovery
But Eminem > Rick Ross by far, especially the Em before Encore

I dont even know why im seeing people compare the two, its kinda sad.

ANYWAY, LUPE IS DOPE, BUT THIS TRACK IS BORING. I AINT GONNA FRONT, LOOKING AT THE LYRICS HE IS SAYING HARD SHIT, BUT ITS JUST BORING AND NOT EVEN MEANT FOR THIS TYPE OF BEAT. BUT IT IS BUILDING MINDS FAST SO..

  9. mr rd says:

DallasTX fuck a big meech the govt is the biggest dope dealer ever…….This shit is too funny cause its real

  10. RICH1 says:

beat is borring as hell makes it harder to pay attention ………………….

  11. Lazeras says:

POor LIl Wayne fans. still mad that Lupe ATE up Fireman AND spat that shit back out? lIl Wayne or gay-z could never amount to Lupe. Lupe literally bodied Jay z on EVERY song they did together.. fuck outta here lol.

Yall niggas is hilarious saying Lil Wayne would kill this harder than Lupe. The only thing Lil Wayne would say throught the WHOLE song is:

    “Im ____ Like ____”

    “Im ___ than____ ”

    “she’s _____ than____”

  12. Jazzy O. says:

haha @ lazeras….. yo there’s truth in that still… tho i like some wayne and jay tracks, Lu is on another level, look up his older tracks pre food & liquor… Lu did straight up gangsta songs like Questions, Gangsta’s Groove, Pop Pop when he was underground, more lyrical and better than “gangsta” rappers now…. if he chose to persue that lane and signed to Roc-a-fella who knows what wouldve happened or if half these gangsta ass rappers wouldve even been relevant today… but Lu went left cuz he wanted to set a good example even though dude is prolly grimier than a bunch of these gangsta cats on the low

the freestyle is sayin something ppl hope you pay attention (tho i do wish he’d let go of that ROSS flow..)

  13. assasin9 says:

listened to this like 16 times already — catch up fools – - – didnt care he had the same flow the whole song cause he was spittin some real shit — I wish he would do this more , like when he did that Diamonds track back in the day — just jump on these hit records and kick knowledge — 3rd fav rapper next to hov and budden

Lupe Fiasco sucks. He is Charles Hamilton with a better PR team and no teenage self absorption.

  16. dumb dumb says:

NIGGAS, are quick to talk politcal and all they do is talk and make songs about another dude who got in the trenches. This shit is weak as a generic history book. I’m so tired of fake dudes from Public Enemy, KRS one the X-clan Paris and even Ice cube. Just talk about shit I already know about. It just a fucking fable in a book of mini stories at this point. You’re not saying anything that hasn’t been said but shallow people appreciate you for it. This is a dead horse argument and nigga give up the stick. This shit is a re-run for these new kids who have no self awareness. Nas, Dead Prez, ect… do nothing as niggas write a song to a corporation to capitalize on ignorance. I rather you just rap about bull shit you can do, like fuck hoes, drink vodka and cmpromise youself to not go any further.

Nigga rap about the plight then get out of his benz. Fuck you I think You’re “CLUELESS”.

  17. dumb dumb says:

In other words I don’t believe you, because you’re trapped by money.

  18. K GRIZZLY says:

  20. Jazzy O. says:

    @ dumb dumb

Who would wanna be trapped by money? But its a harsh reality that in our world, you need to be to be heard. There are a dime a dozen underground rappers all preaching the same counter-culture positive revolutionary shit as Lu (probably), but they dont get any attention.. i wonder why?? If Lu didnt have or chase cash, he wouldnt have the platform and fame to try to wake ppl up like this. Everything in its place. How you gonna affect a change with no money in a world (at least currently) where your freedom and reach (yknow at least in Hip-Hop but practically in everything really..) is practically ALL determined by money.

P.S. Yea, rap on this revolutionary tip has been done before, but so has gangsta rap, commercial rap etc. In the greater scope of things everything new is jsut borrowing from something old… now would you want more of that old negative ish polluting the airwaves and our generation or do you want some of that old positive shit back? Cuz yea its been done before but currently that shit is MISSING and gravely NEEDED IMO… and Lu is bringing it back

  21. Markoni says:

The lyrics might be on point, but as a song this is weak as hell. The point of a great artist is to be able to say smart things AND make great music you can wibe to at the same time. He’s on point lyricaly but that flow, the beat, his performance all of that is to weak to make anyone listen twice.

That’s why Bob Marley, Michael Jackson or Pac are what they are, they made great songs you could dance to, or chill to, and knew how to put a message in those songs too.

  22. Deangelobailey says:

Freestyles are off the dome, he prolly needed 2 pencils… We want lasers!

  23. van says:

I understand that he dumbed down his verse so the lames can catch up.

But. . .when you simplify to converse with idiots you take a risk . . .

  24. Ceeeeek says:

OH MY G###################D!!! You people dissin or saying “the original is better” or “he should of used another flow” BLAH BLAH,Eminem, wayne BLAH BLAH….are MISSING THE FRIGGIN POINT!!!

This is called “BUILDING MINDS FASTER” – he wants u to listen to the message however bland or strong it is. How do you not understand that. Why is theie comparisons?

Some of you are definately part of the “lost youth” who party they life away, not amounting to anything.

  25. ATLien says:

    @Uptown

Stop sucking Wayne’s dick you commercial pop artist wank stain.

Lupe is levels above Wayne lyrically, I fuckin hate retards like you who destroy real hip hop. Stick to your commercial shit kid.

  26. The Editor says:

Mind detect Mind for real, only my chorus went

I think I’m Malcolm X, Martin Luther, Huey Newton, that means I shot ya, raising money, tryin to change the world, and make sure I leave it better for my baby girls

I had that in my head for like a few weeks now, darn Lupe

  31. meezy says:

LMAO @ KIDS SAYING RICK ROSS > EMINEM
ANYWAYS, THIS IS A LUPE TOPIC, I THINK HE’S DOPE, STOP HATIN’

  32. unconform_normality says:

Wise man talk because they have something to say, fools talk just to say something.
    Lupe Haters

I feel it went hard …but to the haters at least you gave it a listen (i hoped you did b4 you spoke) before you bashed.

The instinct of nearly all societies is to lock up anybody who is truly free. First, society begins by trying to beat you up. If this fails, they try to poison you. If this fails too, they finish by loading honors on your head.

  33. JustSaying says:

I think Lupe went off the deep edge and he fell off lyrically. I used to be a fan, that nigga ain’t hungry no more, he was arrogant enough when he was trying to get on and now it’s just too much for me, that nigga need to go back to the basics or stop rapping

  34. YOUAJOKE says:

SHIT SOUNDS LIKE A SOULJA BOY SONG… COME ON LUPE U BETTER THEN THIS

  35. Word says:

who gives a fuck about your critiques??????? Listen to what he is saying, DUMB NIGGAS!!!!!!!!

  36. Word 2.0 says:

    ^^^^

Dont worry imma change my screen name for you

  37. Slim says:

He wasn’t trying to be all super lyrical on this he was Just Kicking INFO that went over y’all niggas head about the goverment illuminati y’all quick to say it ain’t real but y’all don’t research y’all to busy partying like Lupe said and that the Army “says” they protect the opium Fields from terroist but they grow the shit and ship it here and make bank off it fuck a big meech the govt is the biggest dope dealer ever

    ^^^

If you don’t already know this, and Lupe has to inform you, you already lost.

  38. J.R says:

shits live as fuck good job lupe

  39. j3r3miah says:

Shit goes hard as fuck.. Lu was tryn somethin different with this and IMO it worked.. minimalistic but sayin somethin.. its true Lu could flow a lot better if he wanted to tho

  40. post-script says:

The thing I like about Lu is that dude is consistent in his story and his lyrics. I have no idea how some ppl can call him “fake,” maybe cuz they dont get his lyrics? Like if you listen to his super old tracks he’s on some drug dealing gangsta-ass shit. Listen to this, and he tells you he’s from the streets and the OGs were the ones that taught him to go a different direction and teach. Listen to Theme Music to a Driveby and the second verse has him talkin bout a lifer schooling him to the rules of life and such… it all relates, dude’s real as fuck.

And this aint even a proper song, just a quick freestyle to give the fans protesting some theme music… wait til dude really GOES OFF with a proper track.

  42. pienman says:

yo, he definitely killed that shish….indeed…indeed

  43. couple days ago i found an old 2007 thread on pitchfork where all these rock-oriented hipsters and shit where dissing the fuck out of Kanye’s “Stronger” song right after it first leaked.

the majority of the comments were negative like “oh this song is weak, he ripped off Daft Punk, his lyrics suck, rap sucks, etc.” meanwhile i’m thinking how this song was a incredible monster of a pop rap hit and i love every aspect of it, and how he really only sampled their computer-voice vocals, not ripped of the whole beat.

just a reminder,. as this thread is, that no matter who you are or what you are, somebody’s got a problem with you/it. and that the internet is for a bunch of negative ppl to let loose their Hate.

Lupe, and i have my criticisms of him, is one of the best mc’s and lyricists to ever be in hip-hop. u guys are ridiculous. and rap radar consistently says some slick shit abt him. i’m surprised they even posted this but thx.

  44. Deathrow Records Rep says:

This was some of the most boring shit I heard in a while.

  45. kuzhs says:

to the people who think this is weak. do you not get it? right in the beginning he says “what the fuck do i gotta do”…referencing the fact that his record label wants him to dumb down his songs. so what does he do? makes it sound dumb, and with a lot of subliminal underlying messages.
if you still don’t get it, well then… you’re just one of those ignorant people who can’t think outside the box. have fun listening to rick ross and gucci mane.

  46. BLACK 777 says:

Sometimes I don’t know what to think about Lupe. At times I think he sells out to appease his white fan base, but other times he kicks knowledge to up lift black people. This song solidifies his pro black credibility. I appreciate the knowledge he kicked on this song to wake up the ignorant majority of black youth. I will defiantly sign his petition ASAP and I encourage others to follow suit ASAP.. GET OFF YO AZZ NEGROS AND SIGN THAT DAMN PETITION NOW NIGGA!

  48. tre says:

Was kinda boring to be honest. I dig what he saying but it’s boring.

Perhaps the song is inherently boring and it’s Rick Ross’ presence that livened it up in the first place. I dunno, just a thought.

  49. dono says:

this nigga lupe is a fuckin monster he truely under rated
