  1. DGtheEnigma says:

    The ArchAndroid is one of the first albums I can remember recently that is truly genreless…INSTANT CLASSIC and definitely in the top five best albums of the year for any genre.

    1. Janelle Monae – The ArchAndroid
    2. Big Boi – Sir Luscious Left Foot
    3. The Roots – How I Got Over
    4. The Black Keys – Brothers
    5. Yeasayer – Odd Blood

  2. DGtheEnigma says:

    Honorable Mentions:

    1. Erykah Badu – New Amerykah 2
    2. Eminem – Recovery
    3. Rick Ross – Albert Anastasia EP (better than Teflon Don to me)
    4. Drake – Thank Me Later
    5. LCD Soundsystem – This Is Happening

  3. Midnite! says:

    People stay ahting on Em.That list should DEF have Recovery!!!Stop hating already…Recovery is a really good album!!!This girl is fire though!!!She is a breath of fresh air to me….

  4. APlus says:

    Amazing, nuff said.

  5. DGtheEnigma says:

    @Midnite!

    If I was hating, then Eminem wouldn’t be on the list at all.

    Recovery is great no doubt, but the albums I listed higher are better in my humble opinion.

  6. Hollaatchaboy says:

    ha.. DG.. you lost all credibility when you added ROSS in your honorable mentions.. lol

    niggas funny.

  7. DGtheEnigma says:

    @Hollaatchaboy

    Most objective people would give Rick Ross a place on best albums list. I just felt Albert Anastasia is better than Teflon Don.

    It was between that or Distant Relatives. I chose Albert Anastasia.

    It’s my list. Who cares if you agree?

  8. yepANDnope says:

    Damn. I love when i get to love music.

  9. yepANDnope says:

    ^^why she gotta be all dat? and why “HATE?” sucha strong word to use about someone u dont even know?

  10. DARKAQUA says:

    I REMEMBER WHEN JANELLE WAS PERFORMING AT ATL COLLEGE CAMPUSES…SHE’S COME ALONG WAY…TRUE TALENT

  11. yepANDnope says:

    @DG,

    “Objective people” are few and far between on rapradar.
    Ross makes great music. End of story.

  12. DGtheEnigma says:

    @yepANDnope

    This is true, but I realize that it’s mostly kids who don’t have a clue about how to distinguish the music from the person.

    Young’ns care way too much about artists personal stories. Just give me the music.

    Hence why I listen to Ross.

  13. Vexed and Glorious says:

    it’s an interesting video. i sort of wish she had continued more with the archandroid theme, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZyyORSHbaE&feature=channel, but maybe this is going with it. i would have loved to see her jam, but i suppose this isn’t the song for that. still love the song and album. hope she breaks through but keeps her sound.

  14. Midnite! says:

    @DGtheEnigma !!My bad…..Didn’t see the 2nd list until after…I admit when im wrong….

  15. Hollaatchaboy says:

    no kid here bitch nigga.. but you full of shit if you just think its all but decided that Ross make good music.. Ross make a “certain” kind of music that appeals so a certain simple minded club goin music listener that doesn’t care about what is bein said in a song they just want a tight beat and some random babblin over the top. and thats what ROSS gives them.. if thats what you into then the nigga make good music to you. Real hip-hop heads want more and therefore would DISAGREE when a nigga try to claim how great ross is.

    I don’t give a fuck about yo list.. but when you post it in a PUBLIC forum expect niggas to comment on the dumb shit.. if you want to keep it to yourself write it in a notebook and hang it on the wall of ur room nigga. YOU POST THE SHIT for people to comment and then when they do you get all salty.. dumb niggas.

    I don’t have a problem seperatin the person from the music.. that premise is dumb as fuck.. I don’t know any of these niggas PERSONALLY.. so i don’t listen to anyone because I like them as a person.. I listen when I respect what they puttin out.

    go back to the club and listen to ya boy.

  16. DGtheEnigma says:

    @Midnite!

    It’s all good homie…it’s just an opinion anyways.

    Recovery is flat out great, but 2010 has been a great year for music, so it was tough.

    If it’s any consolation, Eminem will have the highest selling hip-hop album for two consecutive years. That’s big…

  17. DGtheEnigma says:

    @Hollaatchaboy

    First, if the shoe fits where it. Second, you’re rant only confirms my point.

    You couldn’t even separate commenters from fact. I’ll just say you should understand that taste in music is all subjective.

  18. K GRIZZLY says:

    she so beautiful look at them eyes and the song was great janella monae remind me of erykah badu but she brings more energy…..nobody hating on eminem he is a great artist but we all know white folks support is album heavy and some blacks rather buy is album than pick up the ross album…recovery is for folks who being thru alot so they can relate to eminem thats why i think he gets more sales that and white folks support there own most of the time…ross music is for the dope boys,bad bitches and hood folks not to say they dont jam eminem album too but ross and eminem is two different elements of rap.

  19. dashing says:

    @DG

    Good list. I would have added the Distant Relatives though over Thank Me Later. I’ll check out that LCD Soundsystem too.

  20. Antoine Dodson says:

    1. Eminem – Recovery
    2. Big Boi – Sir Luscious Left Foot
    3. The Roots – How I Got Over
    4. Nas and Damien – Distant Relatives
    5. Yeasayer – Odd Blood

    I would honestly give Sheryl Crow an honorable mention before I would even think about giving one to Rick Ross. Some fake ass people might love fake ass music, big gorilla lookin’ ass nigga bragging about a lifestyle that he doesn’t live, and will never live. Bottom line is real hip hoppers, know real hip hop. Ross is like Harry Potter fiction. Dead.

  21. Donn says:

    I ADORE JANELLE, ANOTHER ALBUM THAT FLOPPED THAT IS ONE OF THE GREATEST ALBUMS OF THIS YEAR, IF NOT “THE” GREATEST. SHE DESERVES A TIME MAGAZINE COVER, I LOVE HER <3

  22. Hollaatchaboy says:

    DG… all say that niggas that try to act all intelligent are usually just doin that.. “acting”

    Nigga I know that people’s taste in music differs, but the facts are the facts. You can break down music based on content, lyrics, beats, etc.. and Ross don’t pass the test. If you choose to listen to his bullshit.. then do u dumb nigga.. but don’t act like you listening to anything more then glorified club music.

    My favorite baller is Kobe.. yours may be delonte west.. we differ on that.. but break it down to facts.. and KOBE is better then delonte west.. they both play the same game.. KOBE just plays it on another level.

    follow me fuckboy? nuff said nigga.

    king me.

  23. Hollaatchaboy says:

    TIME MAGAZINE COVER??? wtf? ha.. niggas say some wild shit around here.

  24. UltraKid says:

    1. How I Got Over
    2. Distant Relatives
    3. The Archandroid
    4. The War Report 2
    5. The Darkside Vo. 1
    6. Love King
    7. The Stimulus Package
    8. Sir Luscious Left Foot
    9. Maya
    10. The Adventures of Bobby Ray

  25. Word 2.0 says:

    Big Boi – Sir Lucious Left Foot
    Eminem – Recovery
    The Roots – How I Got Over
    Nas and Damien Marley – Distant Relatives

    Teflon Don/ Thank Me Later/ The Adventures Of Bobby Ray (Slept on, nobody even remembers this album came out this year)

  26. Word 2.0 says:

    @Ultrakid

    Glad somebody remembered that B.O.B album, even though your notorious for liking albums solely on top notch production.

  27. Hollaatchaboy says:

    1. Mc Such and Such
    2. Underground Don
    3. Never been signed
    4. Hoodstar
    5. Basement dweller
    6. Cipher Snatcher
    7. 16 spitter
    8. 21 gun salute
    9. Liquor Sto
    10. Pistol Starter

    this make me cool now niggas.. hope you get the point.

  28. Word 2.0 says:

    Whoa I commented before I even watched the video, and after watching it, I see why. If your planning putting out a vid with just your face…dont put it out!

  29. FOOTS says:

    @Hollachaboy

    Are you tryna say that if you put albums on your top 10 that nobody had ever heard of, you’ll get more respect because it makes it look like you listen to something other than that of the typical mainstream music? And furthermore, it makes you look like you know real music and not just poppy, flash and cameras type stuff right? Also makes you look like more of an old head, which always gets respect, because you have albums/mixtapes up there outside the typical norm of the music industry?

    Am I in the right area?

  30. Jenny says:

    @DG

    Yeasayer – Odd Blood should be #1.

  31. Hollaatchaboy says:

    ding ding.. we have a winner.. tell em’ what he’s won Bob…

    my point exactly nigga.. i think i saw a t-shirt that summed it up the best.. it said “i’m into bands that don’t even exist yet”..

    niggas want to be part of something or seem like they on some other shit that us regular niggas can’t understand the complexity and beauty of.. its a power move try to and make one seem like they more in tune with the music then the next nigga.. really all it says is that your to insecure to be lumped into a group of other niggas cuz you fade away.. in ur small “mc such and such” crowd you stand out.. if you say you like recovery… you just another nigga.. feel me?

    like i said before.. its a reason why we sell more hamburgers then when do liver sandwichs..

    if shit is good.. or a CLASSIC.. then masses will find it.. a few niggas listening in a basement a classic does not make.

    real talk.

  32. So Icy Boi! says:

    Most of yall niggaz Top albums FLOP! …but yall be the main one hatin on other niggaz when the shit yall listening to mutha fukaz aint listening to dat shit ….only people who listen to Janelle Monae is internet nerds she ugly anyways and she sold her soul to Diddy

  33. UltraKid says:

    @Word 2.0,
    Production on an album should be as good as the rapper rapping…They shouldn’t sound cheap or generic…I would have put Teflon Don on the list but there’s a few songs I wasn’t feeling that much and Thank Me Later was flawed sooo I couldn’t put those two on the list…

    Next Up…
    Kanye’s album>Cole World>ConsTV>King Uncaged

  34. three2theSecond says:

    great stuff

  35. Word 2.0 says:

    @Ultrakid

    Average production + Near Perfect Lyricism = Good Album (IMO)

    If I cared that much about the beats, id just download the instrumentals. Gucci has some of the best production, especially for that last album he had, but his lyrics were subpar. Overall, I still liked the album. It would take bad production and bad lyrics for me to call an album bad or mediocre. I personally prefer BARS over BEATS though, id listen to a dude spit acapella before I listen to some instrumentals.

  36. Hollaatchaboy says:

    yall some expert actin niggas around here.. ha.. we got our own fuckin hood siskel and ebert around this bitch.. lol.. yall niggas actually go back and read what you type? damn yall sound like some straight up internet nerds..

    UltraKid= definitely a white dude… probably at a private college mommy and daddy paying for. lol

  37. Hollaatchaboy says:

    yall need to hook up on facebook and start a group called FFHH(Fags For Hip Hop)

  38. UltraKid says:

    …Nah for me you have to have good production and lyrics(Illmatic, Reasonable Doubt, The College Dropout)…Name one Hip Hop classic that had average production???

    @Hollaatchaboy,
    Actually I’m Puerto Rican and Dominican but you probably just assumed I’m White because you live in a box and everyone who’s not speaken like some stereotypical character from The Boondocks is automatically ‘white’…look at the words you’re using…nerd??? last time I check it’s actually better to be smart{{Nassir Jones}} than ignorant{{Gucci Mane}}.

  39. Hollaatchaboy says:

    nah kid.. you ever heard the sayin.. that niggas that talk about shit.. and doin shit?? thats u.

    you try to hard to come off all enlightened and “smart”.. so niggas will think your something your not.. we don’t believe you nigga.. you frontin..

    just like if you see a nigga wearing a bunch of jewelry and always talkin about what he got.. most of the time he ain’t got shit.. the niggas who ain’t talkin.. and bein grown men about it is the one’s whose paper is really long.

    and nah nigga I ain’t expecting you to speak like a stereotypical character from the boondocks.. but I know a rat when I see one. Quit trying so hard to fit in and be accepted.. lol.. ha.. fake ass nigga..

  40. DGtheEnigma says:

    Damn, I didn’t think listing my albums of the year would cause such chaos. I was just taking B. Dot’s last sentence a step further.

    Bu, I will say for all you commenting tough guys (and maybe gals), just look at that list and you’ll see my music taste is diverse.

    @Jenny

    Yeah, Odd Blood was my number 1 up until The ArchAndroid just grew on me. By the end of the year, it may creep back up the list.

    Honestly, I’m saving space for Kanye West, Maroon 5 and Kings of Leon. Something tells me all three of these might end up on my end of the year list.

  41. UltraKid says:

    @Hollaatchaboy,
    So now you think I’m fake??? Ok you’re obviously living in a box….If I was trying to be accepted I would have jumped on every bandwagon in the music plus why is it that I always state my honest opinions on things instead agreeing with everyone else??? Whatever…I don’t need to explain myself to you because in your world real is fake and fake is real…I’m not from the hood I’m middle class and I don’t pretend to be anything else.

  42. Hollaatchaboy says:

    Honestly, I’m saving space for Kanye West, Maroon 5 and Kings of Leon. Something tells me all three of these might end up on my end of the year list.
    ——————————————————————————————
    CHECKMATE.

    you proved my point way better then I ever could.

    end of story.

  43. DGtheEnigma says:

    @Hollaatchaboy

    Listen you ass clown. I was gonna let all this other dumb shit you’re posting ride, but you’re starting to go too far.

    Is it our fault that you probably never left your block or experienced anything in life? You sound like the kid at school whose jealous of all the cool kids who know about more shit than you. Bitter even.

    Shit, while I’m at it, while you keep accusing people of “acting or sounding” smart, AIN’T NO ACTING, YOU’RE JUST STUPID.

    you niggas keep tryin.. and keep failin..

  46. Donn says:

    I don’t argue over blog sites, so everyone is entitled to their opinion, in my opinion, Janelle’s album is the best album of the year…PERIOD

  47. Hollaatchaboy says:

    PERIOD.. which is what you must be on.. to say some shit like that.. AOTY??? git the fuck outta here..

    that shit ain’t even the album of today.

  48. DGtheEnigma says:

    @Hollaatchaboy

    A wise man told me don’t argue with fools, cause people from a distance can’t tell who is who.

  49. Hollaatchaboy says:

    and a nigga told me..

    don’t compare a foot to a yard.. cuz you’ll always come up short..

    you ain’t on my level my nigga.. move on.

  50. Hollaatchaboy says:

    Mark Twain said it best nigga…

    ‘Classic.’ A book which people praise and don’t read

    that sums up yall’s lists around this bitch.

  51. NickeyBlack says "u made me hate Eminem" says:

    i like the song more than the video but hey, we all try’na save money nowadays

  52. So Icy Boi! says:

    This nigga said “nigga how many times I gotta murk yo ass on here before you go away” …Murk? dis the internet nigga how da fuk can u “murk” somebody writing comments ? 54. Mr Garcia says:

    Janelle Monae a true artist!! one of the most heart felt videos i’ve seen in a long time! who ever doesnt have this album is truly missin out on an incredible well-rounded score.!!

  55. UltraKid says:

    @So Icy Boi!,
    Nas is self educated my dude which makes him smarter than Gucci and anyone can go to college…It’s not hard.

  56. Burnum says:

    Such a powerful song!!

  57. Burnum says:

    “What moves those of genius, what inspires their work is not new ideas, but their obsession with the idea that what has already been said is still not enough.” – Eugene Delacroix

  58. belly says:

    lol i use to go to high school with this girl… long way from kansas

  59. UltraKid says:

  61. dashing says:

    It’s a shame that the comment section got hijacked for an argument that has nothing to do with this dope song.

    Janelle Monae is the truth.

  62. chitlin coon says:

  63. Nathaniel says:

    anyway, song is dope, video isn’t what i was expecting, which is actually to be expected from janelle monae. the archandroid is amazing. and so is every song on the album. can’t wait till the graphic novel and the movie and all that other shit she’s gonna do with it.

  64. ARon says:

    Hollaatchaboy is an absolute clown. I never comment on here but reading your ignorant and petty attempts at arguing forced me to take action. The thing that bothered me the most was accusing UltraKid of being white, like thats an insult. Just because you’re some bitter dude from the block doesn’t give you better taste in music homeboy
