  8. Citylivin' says:

wondering why female MC’s are not getting exposure is the same as wondering why real hip-hop period male or female isn’t getting exposure….wack artists!….bullshit > rhymes…..money > concept….trends > storytelling……..
    …….the end…….

  9. SayAhh says:

  11. UltraKid says:

Lauryn Hill, Jean Grae, Rah Digga & MC Lyte are my favorite female rappers.

  12. adrian says:

damn BET! good job. i might have to start watching tv again… (not really)

female rap is just like Arkansas rap; it will only be pushed to the forefront when the participants most like the artist support it. most intellectuals and/or people who are aware of their power as consumers download music for free and thus remain under-represented.

meanwhile 18-35 yr old american white women change the world with their spending habits and dont even notice. prolly wont ever win that battle

  13. Donn says:

The old Hiphop is over. Let it go cus no one cares. We on to the next one. If your favorite rapper couldnt switch up and keep up to the change they got left behind. Oh well. Its 2010 not 1864

  14. ben says:

lauren hill is the only one that matters. kim and foxy were big and jay’s slutts. all females from the 80’s were dope. gangsta boo and mia x are stupid dope, missy is never given props for going outside the box.

  15. Ac@pella! says:

That was dope. I’m really lookin’ forward 2 more femcees poppin’ up and takin’ over the game. We got a lot of dope female emcees out there, ppl r jus to naive to listen 2 ’em. Shout out 2 Invincible, Xplicit, and Mae Day for holding down female rap 4 the Detroit scene.

  16. Thank Me Hater says:

@Ultrakid Cosign Maaaannnnn Jean Grae has some of the most amazing pure lyricism I’ve ever heard from an MC period. I think she would most dudes alive in a rap battle

  17. just dizle says:

in case ya’ll missed this, female mcs mixtape i did with mc lyte, and dj jazzy joyce http://justdizle.com/blog/2010/03/just-dizle-ft-jazzy-joyce-mc-lyte-ladies-first/

  18. derrr says:

This was good..they spoke the truth on Trina and Nicki Minaj
it would of been better if they spoke on why Female Mcs. have beef..
In the 90s it was so many female rappers and now its like only 1 holding things down @ if you wanna be in the game you gotta diss/knock that one down.. beef is apart of the hip hop culture but females take it to another level..where they are just called HATERS!

  19. So Icy Boi! says:

@Donn PREACH!!! …niggaz stuck the past, same shit niggaz sayin now they was sayin 5 years ago … cant get to the future, if you keep lookin at the past…

  20. ben says:

jean gray had a great album with 9th wonder.

  21. I Punch Babies says:

@Donn @So Icy Naw I think what it is is that niggas (rap fans) want people that can rap and actually technically spit. They want women that actually care about the craft and the rhyme scheme and the history. They don’t want gimmicky women that dress up in orange wigs that uses her sex appeal to sell. And hopefully niggas are tired of rappers that just work with tight beats but lack any type of real lyrical ability (rick ross). You should give props to the producer not the rapper if that’s the case. I believe that you two are only concerned with that

  22. So Icy Boi! says:

@I Punch Babies …you gotta understand this is what people is liking this GENERATION if people liking it whats the problem? …da problem is you niggaz aint ready for change wanna say whats real and whats not mostly you eastcoast niggaz still mad yall fell off a long time ago ..if it was the eastcoast on top right now it wouldnt be no problem …Everything in life has changes and hiphop had a change if you da like it listen to some 90’s early 2000’s shit ….HATIN aint gonna make the 90’s come back ..it aint never coming back….

  23. GTFO says:

Notice how all of a sudden they wanna document females in Hip-Hop when Nicki got Hot…. Where was this documentary for the past 11 years. I swear media be trying to stir up trouble.

  24. dani says:

My first concert was Queen Latifah.

    I miss Hip-Hop

  25. mac DIESEL says:

THIS IS SOME DOUBLE STANDARD SHIT!!!! LL WAS LYRICAL AND DOPE, BUT HE USED SEX APPEAL TO SELL RECORDS AND NOBODY COMPLAINED ABOUT THAT SHIT!!!! IT AIN’T LIKE THESE CHICKS AIN’T SEXY!!!! I CAN UNDERSTAND IF IT WAS SOME FAT BITCH ROCKIN’ A MINI WIT STILETTOS ON FORCIN’ TO BE SEXY!!!! CHICKS LIKE FOXY KIM NICKI AND TRINA NATURALLY HAVE THAT SEX APPEAL!!!! IT AIN’T FORCED!!!! IT’S THE FACT THAT THEIR LYRICAL SKILLS SUCK (EXCLUDIN’ FOX & KIM CUZ THEY GOT MIC SKILLS (NO PUN, HA!), MAKES PEOPLE BELIEVE THEY’RE ONLY USIN’ SEX APPEAL AS A TOOL TO SELL RECORDS!!!! I UNDERSTAND WHEN THEY SAY TO RESPECT THE CRAFT AND USE YA SKILLS AND TALENT AS THE SOLE BASIS TO SELL BUT IF U GOT THE GOODS, IT’S GONNA SHOW NATURALLY!!!! KIM FOX TRINA TALK IT HOW THEY LIVE IT!!!! THEY’RE FREAK BITCHES!!!! HA!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  26. dani says:

Mac Diesel.. you are in denial. Lol.

This is beyond your brain. So.. yes, continue to think that Trina, Foxy, and Kim (who we ALL know… and she said.. and BiG said… and the damn documentary said.. had her self molded by BiG to be the male fantasy) are just freaky bitches and thats ALL they know and that’s ALL they can rap about…

you are a very sad little man.

  27. Love2Luv says:

This was a great piece on female emcees. This really showed the metamorphosis of female rappers and how all their styles were different and unique. I really appreciated the mention of underground artists who are still rockin mics. “We are not dinosaurs!”

  28. mac DIESEL says:

    @ dani

U NAIVE LIL BITCH, I THINK YOU’RE THE ONE IN DENIAL!!!! IT’S ALWAYS BEEN A DOUBLE STANDARD WHEN IT COMES TO WOMAN AND SEXUALITY!!!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  29. So Icy Boi! says:

We need Lil Mama back! ..fuck what da haters say!

  30. Teddy says:

lauren hill was the g.o.a.t. she understood this rap shit this game as opposed to chicks just wanting to be famous or model/actresss/ use rap as a jump of (98% of female rappers) nikki cant really rap like she has gucci mane verses u ppl r crazy nothing against her some of her stuff is interesting at most but u put her next to lauren hill its like wakka flaka and tupac and you wonder why we dont pay attention its about the lyricism and music not the gimmiks and first ladys of crews

  31. ZAIRE says:

IT WAS COOL … BUT THEY PLAYED LIL KIM TO LEFT REAL HARD… MADE IT SEEM LIKE SHE WAS JUST BIGGIES PUPPET NO SKILLS, JUST SEX!!

  32. Vibrant thing says:

@ 8. Citylivin’. Cosign. @ 13. Donn. 1864 is here too, in various ways.

  33. Werdzwerth says:

Props to the Queen, MC Lyte, Missy Elliot,

  34. Chaz says:

Well the Problem with female rappers is STILL BIGGER THAN “WHO IS SEXY?” It’s a problem of women being forced into role and never encouraged to get better.

Here’s a great article on the problems Women in Hip-Hop face in 2010 – http://popularopinions.wordpress.com/2010/03/15/ladiesplight/

  35. Mr.Hip Hop says:

Females in general do not really understand real hip hop. They enjoy it but don’t understand it. But they are a few that do as in Mc lyte, lauren hill, lil kim, salt and peppa etc. Most female rappers rap about what they think a man wants to hear in stead of what she would want to hear. Hip hop is all about the individual and if other people can relate to that individual. If the individual is imagining situations that they themselves don’t truely understand, there is a chance people won’t relate. Me myself hate when i hear a female acting and talking like a man. Be a female mc and a female will do well if she has mic skills. Lauren can spit like no other, and when you hear her talk, her song concepts, her voice, you know she is a woman. That’s why she is respected as a great mc and not just a good ” female” mc.

  36. Belize says:

Menaj is an embarrassment to Queen Latifah, Rah Digga, Missy Elliot, even Kim!!!!!
Respect to all Hip-Hop ladies except that asswipe.

  37. Poodie says:

BET mentions BOOG BROWN!!!!!!! Reppin Detroit.. Mello Music Group… “The Brown Study” droppin on Mello Music Group 9/28!! #ahYES!!
