Red Bull EmSee Battle: DNA vs. FowL

[vodpod id=Video.4322054&w=425&h=350&fv=]

Here’s footage from the final round of the Red Bull EmSee Battle competition in Detroit last week. Albeit home court advantage, FowL was crowned the winner after DNA threw in the towel. There’s no quitting in hip-hop!

*FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS THE OWNERS OF GRINDTIME & COMPETED IN THE REDBULL EMSEE COMPETITION*

I agree that the crowd was crazy biased…. but EVERY round DNA spit in the “finals” (including in his NY division win) was written. He never said anything personal to his opponent… nothing but generic “i’m better than you because…” or “Since Shady’s here….” type stuff that works for anyone. His wordplays were dope but I know for a fact that there are only a handful of MC’s that freestyle at THAT level and if you ask anyone who is in the battle scene…. they’ll tell you that DNA is not one.

He was smart about saying things like “Your first rounds was written, so i’ma freestyle on ya” to avoid suspicion but even that was written cuz you then see him go for the 313 line which would ONLY work if he had the crowd eating out of his hands (and preferably if he was from the D lol). This means that when he wrote, he was betting on everyone digging his 1st round and that he could grab the crowd that way… if he was freestyling, he would have never attempted it since he could feel that the crowd wasn’t on his side.

Oh well, CONGRATS TO FowL…. but the BEST freestyler in that competition was Jonny Storm and I hope there’s footage up somewhere so i can find out why he didn’t get past round 1.

*the best freestyler in the building that night (possibly including Eminem) was Madd Illz but he already slaughtered this competition before it blew up and is sponsored by Redbull.

  16. FUTRIZTK says:

For those of you saying FowL is garbage, you’re being proven wrong as you read this. He’s currently making moves out in Cali w/ Shady records as a result of winning the battle. He’s also dropping his next mix-tape #GoodVibes on May 19th. I’d like to see more of him on Rap Radar , his last tape, Live From The D , was really slept on. He’s a lyrical prodigy and if he signed with Shady, Em and possibly Royce now, could mold him into a truly phenomenal mainstream rapper.
