I always LOL at these people talking about “mainstream” and “underground”.
If you are still underground, that means an A&R doesnt think you are good enough to sell records for them; that they dont believe in your skill. Not that you ARE bad if youre underground, but there are more good popular rappers than not popular. Most things are based on opinion of course, but you have to wonder why millions of people like an artist, and then millions have never even heard of another. Or if they heard of him and still don’t like him (Immortal Technique).
I listen to good music, and Drake makes good music that is better than a lot of rappers’ material. I listen to Common, Kanye, Nas, Eminem, Jay-Z, J.Cole, Nas, Brother Ali( a little), and a lot of other people that I barely know their names.
