  4. YoYo says:

U sign to a major label that means u belong to them, same goes with J cole, Lupe etc…Their job is to make money. u dont like it? theres plenty of opportunity to build your own indie buzz these days. stop crying

  5. Shawn says:

“They aint promote it right” is some real 97′ bullshit. ALL you niggas was loving the checks..And now that they are waking up in the morning in a cold bed with a wet ass…they want to bitch.
Yeah Nigga, business men are about business. Bottom lines because stock holders don’t give a fuck about “critically acclaimed”.
And LA been the same Dude his whole career….It aint like he cared anymore about hip hop than at any other point in his career.. You knew what LA was…he was like this in the brochure…now you’ll..
Go look at the pic of him and Shyne, the one where Shyne looks like Third World Warlord..Look at LA’s body language…
You clowns better wake up and start using social media for something more than getting some pussy.
NOBODY put a gun to none of them niggas head…You married a hooker and now you surprised when she’s on the net with a cock in her mouth…

  6. D says:

”Maybe they are not hits anymore”

Did you hear this bitch comment on Nas?

  7. original will says:

see i commented on this a while bacc see how sean isnt bitching about the label like Nas and Shyne he was asked the question 1st then he stops himself when he realizes he bitching a lil bit too much

Like I said Before Nas and shyne are too old for that lets blame the boss on everything especially Nas like has he ever left a label and not talked shit about them afterwards You Kno IDK as a Man in College Im starting to realize i cant rely on anybody but myself same shit applies to these classes Im Paying like 400 500 dollars for not including the books when to be honest all I really Need is the book becuz these teachers aint teaching me shit 2006-2010 its seems as if you dont do something about a situation then there is really no need to talk to public about I mean whats the point of you airing yo business out to your fans before you step to your boss like a Man I mean its easy to call LA Reid and 50(Bucc) and Jay-Z a Bitch(Beanie) when the niggas aint around why dont you step to the nigga as a mna and talk when has it ever been cool for a grown ass man to talk about a problem with a nigga behind his bacc when you can resolve the problem face to face

Thats just like when ross say he start beefing with 50 becuz the nigga gave him a fucced up look at the Hiphop awards but the nigga didnt start the beef with 5-0 until 3 months later like “THATS Gangsta Thats Real” for you niggas? all i got from that statement was that Ross was feet away from 50 cent with a issue at hand and my nigga for some reason didnt even speak on it till months later

like if your an artist and you keep running into complications like this becuz this shit keeps happening to Nas then Why go another Big Wig when you can have the opportunity to do it yourself and control damn near every aspect of your art like Come on My Nigga Shyne is leaving Def Jam for Cash Money whats goign to be the difference if you Look at Glasses,DPG(Was signed for a lil bit bacc in carter 2 days), Curren$y,Tati like if you look at them no matter how good their music sounds to them and Baby and Slim they not releasing shit if its not making money Str8 up so why would shyne leave Def Jam to a Nigga who controls not only the artist music and image but also gives artist’s allowances rather than giving the money that is rightfully theirs like I understand CMB is at the top right now but so are their lawsuits for unpaid artists and producers so you gone leave LA Reid becuz he dont understand Hiphop but sign to a label who last real hiphop release was His material almost a year ago Drake album was kinda rnb jay Sean kevin Rudolf waynes rocc album like it is shown that Birdman sees that the money is in them pop records so why does Shyne think that Baby would treat him any different than LA reid treats him over a Beiber or a Rihanna its going to be the same thing but the names going to change to Jay Sean and Kevin Rudolf

In this interview Big sean just described a Less Flashier Birdman so basically he described Slim

  8. original will says:

    @ D

to be honest Nas shit is on a different level than it was before idk Nas showed his colors when They said he can Call his album “nigger” but not sell it in big stores like that showed at the end of the day as music as he tries to says hes about the music the nigga is really about the money too

  9. original will says:

Just seen that News Feed and YN i think you need to change that blaccout and the played yourself person of the week to TI 1 for that suicidal attempt shit and another for getting caged again

  10. come on people says:

    All you computer executives STFU!

  11. come on people says:

Kanye has not had a TOP hit on billboard yet this year. Rihanna and Beiber yes but Kanye no!

  12. mistah_zee says:

Shawn couldn’t have said it better. Realist shit I’ve heard in years. You should become a rapper and use that knowledge. I’m starting to understand that allot of these rappers are really not that smart no matter how good there music is. Time are changing and unless you got strategy now, and a strategy that can sell you are nothing. I’m not saying to change with the times or anything but you have to be marketable, so your product has to be able to generate income.

Respect isn’t what it use to be these kids coming up don’t give a fuck who you were 10 years ago. Think about it music with no lyrics run shit run now, and the vets who have a strategy like Jay and Em can use lyrics and sell, again theres many reason why but still they have a strategy.

If your going to get into the music industry got a solid plan not just records and talent.

  13. Post no billz says:

Big sean is dope but i doubt the house that la ried fucked up will give him a release date, even with the kanye co-sign..

  14. Ac@pella! says:

Shaking my fucking head @ Death Jam…killin niggaz’ careers…

  15. come on people says:

Why would LA fly all the way to Beliz to sign Shyne but NOT promote him…it makes NO sense all?

  16. flawda says:

The labels only care about the bottom line, they are not gonna throw money behind something that is not gonna generate money. You have to prove that you are a proven seller like Kanye, Rihanna, Neyo, etc for them to invest in you. The days of sitting back and letting a major work for you is over!

  17. Shawn says:

    @ Come on People

Many reasons Bro. LA’s is a business man and I’m sure his ventures extend outside of music..So with Shyne’s Dad being a Prime Minister or some sort of high ranking government official..Signing him to get a line on prime beach front property or a opening other ventures in a fledgling country..
Just because he signs him doesn’t mean he’s out the money listed. They may have only given advance..He may have been sold on the signing by a underling looking to get a kickback from Shyne…LA pays Shyne say a $500K advance and he pays this guy $100K..

My point really is…there are various reason you do things in business…some make sense and some don’t …on the surface that is.

  18. Belize says:

    Nas= 2nd Best Alive.
    Shyne is my brotha!!!
    Big Sean is DOPE.
    They all should leave!

  19. original will says:

    @come on people

Kanye aint had top charters like number 1 but shit he been in that top 20 I mean most of the music you are hearing from Kanye right now is free so no that shit not going to chart shit aint got a barcode to it only two official Singles Kanye has is Power and Runaway and Power hit like 20 something and Runaway which has yet to have that video movie show Runaway is at number 12 right now

But kanye is all over the Radio they said something like he was the countdowns in NYC like 3 or 4 times with monster Christian Dior Denim but you gotta realize them joints are free so they not going to get on the charts and if they do its going to be based off of just Radio Plays and like sean said LA Reid is about that money so you think he going to throw some promo at some shit Kanye is Telling fans to download for free

  20. mr. jones says:

La Reids job = find make create promote HIT music

    hes doin his job

u can make a hit w/o auto tune and a dance, im sure of it

  21. Drucifer says:

Wait a minute, hold the fuckin phone, you mean to tell me that the only thing buisness men care about is making money???……………..Holy shit, whats next, people reading the bible in church

    SMH………….Shut the fuck up

  22. Nathaniel says:

    solution:

sign LESS artists, makes sure they’re immensely creative/talented, allow them to make THEIR music, and believe in it enough to put money behind the marketing and promo.

a record label doesn’t know what a hit is until it’s a hit. black music especially is all wacked out because of the “this is what the people want” method. no one, including the people, know what they want until the machine force-feeds it to them on some “here… THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT!” shit.

any advertising agency will tell you. it’s the age old tactic in this country. a “hit” record has never had a particular sound. that’s why every music legend, with all their hits, never has music that sounds the same. which brings me back to my first point.

again: sign LESS artists, makes sure they’re immensely creative/talented, allow them to make THEIR music, and believe in it enough to put money behind the marketing and promo. voila!

  23. jamal says:

LA READ JUST CARES ABOUT MONEY WHAT ABOUT THE ART? THIS HIPHOP SHIT IS DONE POINT BLANK NAS , JAY WAS LUCKY TO BE IN ITS BEST YEARS SINCE HE CARES ABOUT MONEY SO MUCH HOW COME RIHANNA LAST TWO ALBUMS FIRST WEEK NUMBERS WERE LOWER THAN NAS FIRST WEEK NUMBERS THE GUY WHO DOES NOT SELL RECORDS YOU GUYS ON THESE BLOGS KILL ME …

HOW CAN DUDES SAY SHYNE IS WACK HES BEEN DOWN FOR 10 JOINTS NOW U EXPECT HIM TO KISS. ASS………. YOU DUDES RATHER ARTIST TO WHERE MAKE UP LIKE LA REID

  24. Shawn says:

@Nathaniel….Great solution in theory..But, Artist ultimately sign to the highest bidder. So you would need to cut overhead. Which would also be cutting your experienced , and highly paid, workforce for anyone willing to work for less.
The 90’s began the death of the A&R so you basically had glorified A&R’s acting as labels…which is why you don’t see any of the Ruff Ryders, Death Row, Bad Boy (as a serious label), Murder Inc. etc..They took the advances, got lazy with guidance and got greedy….Similar to the bankers with the bad mortgages…
I think letting artist grow is the key…Take Outkast. They sold the most albums, 4 albums deep. They were given time to grow and hone their craft…They were’nt forced to do “numbers”, that was TLC and Usher’s job..
Artist can look at their careers like athletes…Some sign with a team because they run the ball, some because they pass the ball and some sign for the highest amount paid.. Looking at the big picture and your future isn’t a young man trait which is what happens with young rappers..

    @Mista Zee good looking homey.

  25. devante says:

L.A Reid has built Def Jam into a R&B/Pop label in his part 4 years as president

  26. Def Jam Is Dead says:

Def Jam is suppose to be the mecca of hip hop. If you dont know how to make money off a Nas album, Redman Album, Fabolous Album, Ghostface Album etc. then you do not need to be president of a Hip Hop label. If you want to sell pop records go to Jive with that Bullshit.

La Reid is killing Def Jam and the First Hip Hop label.

Its the record biz and Def Jams product is suppose to be pure Hip Hop, then you got LA reid trying to cut up the dopest shit out of QB with some pop bullshit and Im suppose to pay for that? No I won’t. Def Jam doesn’t want hip hop money. That label don’t mean shit, LA Reid at Def Jam is like Benzino at the Source. I feel sorry for the artist but I feel even worse for the fans being robbed of classics because the suits at Def Jam want Justin Bieber money.

  27. Junior Whopper says:

Rappers need to make hits when they’re on major labels and if they can’t too bad. Business is Business. Jay-Z just made a smash with Alicia Keys and that shit was hot.

These niggaz sound like bitches blaming execs for not promoting the shit they’re making. A hit is a hit.

  28. jamal says:

May i ask you junior whopper which is a better album nelly’s country grammer or illmatic by nas?
    just opinion.

  29. Shawn says:

@ Jamal.. Clearly Illmatic is better album than Country Grammar… But Eric B for President is a better album than Illmatic.
Those albums are from two very different periods. And Illmatic was the one of the last Hip Hop Albums that was really made without POP selling aspirations.. The Game Change after 94-95.. Shiny Suits, pop samples and Puffy RULED the next 5-7yrs.
And what did NAS do after Illmatic? He got with Lauren Hill for next album first single.. And After that.. Hate me now with Diddy.
I listened to the “N” album, which he caved on the title. And really only liked Testify and Stop us now.. They album was just ok. Nothing memorable.
Nas has no presence in the “New World” he’s still living in the “Lock out the Hit Factory, send me on a promo tour, shoot a $700k video and I need a stylist” world.. that shit is over like sub prime mortgages.
Dudes are making albums with a laptop and quality mic. They are using YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, MYSPACE, web pages and various other tools to grow and stay connected to fans.. Dudes are shooting videos with FlipCams..
Nas really needs to adjust and figure out. LA ain’t in the booth Bruh.

  30. CM says:

these labels need to wise up, making hits isnt what the real music fans want. hits come and go and get old after a while but i still play nas’ the lost tapes. thats classic material and its not bc it sold a million records, it didnt and didnt come close but thats real music. its about the lyricism, the work and everything that comes of it, not the fuckin sales. the industry has ruined hip hop and it needs fix

hov said it best “the industry shady, it need to be taken over”
