In an interview with Access Hollywood, Kanye talks about his upcoming album/film and hiatus from music. At the 6:34 mark, he says his previous effort, 808s & Heartbreak was shunned by the Grammy committee and goes on to share his views on award shows. How could they be so heartless?
Woody Allen never went to the Academy Awards even though he’d been nominated and has won more than a few times. He only went after 9/11 to ask people to keep shooting movies in #NYC. i love the fact that he speaks from the heart at all times, and it dosent matter who agrees, thats real individualism, same reason i like 50 cent, i might not agree with everything but i know they are not trying say what sounds good, Ye had some good points in this too about the award shows, i never looked at it from that perspective…it seems like he’s trying to change the wheel, which could be a very good thing but it’s a sacrifice i don’t think alot of people can handle…..#KanyeShrug

All I know is I remember reading in a few different articles before the “VMA incident” that 808’s was an early favorite to win album of the year at the Grammy’s….and then it didn’t even get nominated. BTW, every other Ye album has won hip-hop album of the year and been nominated for overall album of the year. “Heartless” which was probably Yeezy’s 2nd biggest single ever(right behind “Stronger”) and one of the biggest records of 2009 on any chart didn’t even get nominated.

Kanye is just a talented & creative person, and he knows it. That’s what gets him cocky, because he at the end of the day can get away with it. He really is the voice of this generation.
Just for the record I’d like to point out that Flo-rida’s “R.O.O.T.S.” album got nominated for Rap Album of the Year that the last Grammy’s but 808’s didn’t….

I understand but if you go to iTunes, Walmart or Best Buy(the top 3 music retailers in the country) you’ll find 808’s in the hip-hop section. And it would have been nominated in that category if that VMA thing didn’t happen…..and Flo-rida is garbage on any and every level.
Kanye is great no doubt. But why does he always feel that every song he makes is the greatest song off all time. 808 is an ok album. its not a rap album, its autotune r&b.
