Nas Gives Status Of Lost Tapes 2

The verdict’s still out on whether or not Nas wrote a letter to the exces at Def Jam. Nonetheless, The Source caught up with him this past weekend at the NY Heineken Inspire event and asked about the status of Lost Tapes 2. He says, as of now, there’s no release date for it—nor his next album.

  22. BlackAnastasia says:

Nas its over Potna.Kelis Conquered you and made you look small to the Public. You`re not the same Nas since that Kelis Debachle,I don`t think anybody wants to hear ya Neo-Soul Raps.DefJam is only Promoting Acts thats gonna Automatically turn a Profit.Rihanna,Rick Ross,Justin Beiber.ect..what the fuck do they look like putting major moey behind a washed up rapper like Ghost Face?

  23. pls says:

@BlackAnastasia…Rihanna as big of a artists she is has yet to have a #1 album on DJ and Nas’ 2 albums released on DJ have debuted #1 on billboard and sold well. Rick Ross can hardly go gold so shut the fuck up! Kelis can’t even pay her mortgage or sell 10k of her wack ass music. Instead of you worry about Nas worried about your small ass life…because people divorce everyday! Nas is selling out tours globally!

  24. dion25 says:

why isnt nas on roc nation

  25. badjuju says:

I thought this is gonna be released at December 14th….

  26. Chris says:

Damn he’s gotta resolve this situation somehow. Its like the first commentator said he’s lagging himself out of the game right now. I feel like this is how its gonna end for him and he’ll just tour for the rest of his career. Damn, damn, damn.

  27. jay z says:

wow nas seems to be in the same situation as allen iverson who had to go to play for foreign country and leave the nba to play at a lower level as his talent seems to have been lost. Nas has lose most of his buzz while jay z, his rival had been able to maintain his relevancy by making features and being in the public eyes and doing publicity and venturing out of music.

  28. jaYeLecT says:

    Distant Relatives>>>>>>>>>MBDTF

  29. wow says:

Everyone is an expert on Nas’ life and career…you internet niggas are jokes! If anyone has followed Nas this is just his personality…Nas is not done! And so what if Jay hops on everyone’s music to stay relevant to the public eye. Jay-z has no choice but to be visible for the next 10 years because Live Nation 360 deal is getting a large percentage of everything he touches music, books ,clothing and touring…all of it!

  30. phil says:

    Fuck Def Jam.

Switch to Aftermath, it’s worth it ;).

  31. Jay D says:

Nas NEEDS to sign with Roc Nation or G.O.O.D Music or Aftermath to get his shit out!

  32. marlan says:

I understand now the delay from Nasir Jones but I do not quite understand why Nas the rapper feels he has anything to prove good music is good music it will sell itself either way if he is cooking up something speacil I guess it’s best to make sure it’s speacil

  33. pienman says:

it comes when it comes, looking forward to it…

  35. Young Mo Fo says:

Nas should sign to Roc Nation. All you do is perform for money, and less pressure on timing to release an album. The money he makes off touring, he can use for an album, or mixtape and Jay-Z eats off it too! Roc Nation just seems to be the best place to sign to because its a management label. You WILL make money because they will put you on tour and advertise. Artist freedom means that you have to make the label some type of money.
J.Cole does his thing, and makes the label money by doing shows all year.
Jay Electronica will have the freedom to do his thing, watch his shows start to increase.
Jay-Z is eating off others’ rap, so hes good.
If Nas signs, he will be in the Electronica position. Pause.

  36. omar says:

People are so use to seeing these artists pretend to have perfect lives that they can’t relate to a TRUE artist like Nas who reveals his emotions about what he is going through at the moment. The haters try and make it seem like Nas is in need of help when the reality is he is experiencing real life shit that most of these fake ass artists would never reveal because their larger than life image is what they fool the public into believing is honest. Nas has been doing great for his entire career without signing under another artists’ label especially Jay-z who is in a 360 deal himself and who is signing these artists under his label to 360 deals while receiving a large percentage of all their earnings. The Nas haters would love to see Nas sign under Jay so they could be the first to say “Nas lost he signed to Jay-Z.” These dummies already tried that when Nas signed to Def Jam as if Jay owned Def Jam and was not an artist himself on the label. Nas has overcome adversity before and has come out a champ and this time won’t be any different!

  37. TheChosenOne says:

IMO, if Nas was smart he should go the Kanye route and just start leaking the Lost Tapes track by track. If its good and Def Jam sees that he’s getting a buzz, they will definitely give him a release date.

  38. omar says:

    @Young Mo Fo
By the way this Nas situation is not about money he toured an entire year off an album that was not even released yet in 2009, toured for 5 months this year when the album was released and about to go on another world tour for 3 months off the same album next year. Nas had several major endorsements with ESPN, Nike, and Levi in 2010. His Distant Relatives music played on television show Entourage and on the 2010 FIFA World Cup soundtrack. Nas also did several solo shows this year in Japan, Norway, Hawaii and several other US states. These are just a few things released on the net that I’ve read about. Nas is far from broke!

  39. omar says:

    @TheChosenOne
I hear what you are saying but I don’t think it’s a bout a buzz for Nas. I think Nas wants Lost Tape 2 to count as an album toward his deal because he signed to a 4 album deal and with Lost Tapes 2 and his next solo album his contract is complete.

  40. TheChosenOne says:

@omar, The music business is much different now. If you want to sell your music you have to give away free and if people like it they will buy it. Look at Drake. “So Far Gone” was out mad long as a mix-tape but since the label still felt it was commercially viable and they could profit from it they released it for retail. Same thing goes for Fabolous and T.I.N.C. 2. Def Jam may not believe in Nas right now, but if they see that he is generating interest there is no way they’re not going to try to profit from it.

  41. Y'all are corny.... says:

You both made some good points…
