Dr. Dre Says Detox Will Be His Last LP

All good things must come to an end. And in the new issue of XXL, Dr. Dre says that Detox will be his last recording as an MC.

“As far as me going into the mic booth, that shit is over. I’m always going to talent scout and try to find new artists to work with. But, yeah, that’s it. I don’t see myself doing it the way I’m doing it now…”

    lmao co-sign @ raw rap.
    imo Hip-Hop has already died. I agree that Detox prolly wwon’t be great, and we all know that altho Em is still dope, things ain’t the same; BoB’s pop gets more attention than his rap, hardly no one cares about J.Cole, Jay is more focused on businessman, where Nas at anyway?, TI is in jail.Shit. So that leaves Young Money, Wacka, Gucci, etc. taking over the music world. We pretty much hopeless.

  10. Black Shady says:

    good, cuz I dont wanna wait another 11 yrs

  11. THE FUCKING TRUTH says:

  15. Bangers N Mash says:

    Hip Hop just took another step backwards.

  16. CaseyJonesing says:

    So many fucking haters on here, go back to your moms house and wack off to soulja boy or whatever it is you haters get off to, Dre is the best, he can take however fucking long he wants to release HIS music

  17. Taker says:

    hip hop is dead? are you fucking serious, hip hop is in a renaissance over the past couple years? where’s nas? DISTANT RELATIVES. the roots, big boi, eminem, black milk, curren$y, lloyd banks and others have all drop at minimum GOOD albums this year. kanye’s album is going to take over. legends leaving? premier, pete rock, q-tip, talib all still in the game. new rappers like jcole and jay eletronica provide promise. shiny suit theory was fucking trending on twitter across the country when it released. blu, lupe, wale, cudi, asher roth, bob are all bringing unique good to great music. the WU is still active, OB4CL2 last year, ghostface droppin next month.
    seriously GTFOH saying hip hop is dead, this shit is being reborn.

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  23. Word says:

    @Haters Are Annoying

    Do you hate haters or just people that hate Drake and Wayne?

  24. BK says:

    @Word

    He’s that corny yellow nigga that was on the Drake album release vid on WSHH crying “he’s just too amazing.”

  25. HIP-HOP AIN'T DEAD says:

    How can Hip-Hop die when people like Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, Kanye West & T.I. are around? Now I know that Jay-Z is now more focused on business than music but that ain’t stopping him from dropping Watch the Throne. Plus T.I. went to jail but he is releasing his album and did you just say where the fuck is Nas? That dude just released a masterpiece with Damian Marley and The Lost Tapes Pt. 2 & his tenth studio album is on the way. Kanye did his part and released an instant classic. Eminem had a great year or we can just simply say that this year belongs to him. There are rumors flying around that Em & Royce will release a Bad Meets Evil album on 2011. Dre is up next. So there’s no way in hell that you can declare Hip-Hop dead or any time soon.

    2010
    Distant Relatives Nas & Damian Marley
    Recovery Eminem
    Sir Lucious Left Foot: The Son of Chico Dusty Big Boi
    My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy Kanye West
    Death is Silent Kno
    How I Got Over The Roots
    H.F.M. 2 Lloyd Banks

  26. bap2313 says:

    Of course it’s his last.. because at the rate he releases albums he’d be damn near 70 trying to make another one after Detox (if that ever comes out).

  27. Dirty Peddalz says:

    Sounds like a good idea that more producers should entertain. Drop the mic (especially if you don’t write the rhymes), and focus on producing and promoting the actual spitters.

  28. Word says:

    @BK

    Lmao yo I wouldn’t even be surprised. I actually think your right though

    @HIP HOP AIN’T DEAD

    You my friend have great taste in hip hop music.

  31. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

  32. tpm2810 says:

    bout time…the ni99a is close to pushin 50 any way and aint nobody tryna c no gangsta rap grand pops try and stay relevant to the youth! detox will flop and dre wount care because he’ll be living good off his headphone! main stream industry hip hop is dead because industry artists played them selves out recycling generic ryhmes tryna keep up with contemporary trends thus killing off all their credibility @ the same time…a few new heads like j,cole, drake, j ay elec, nip hussle and others are trying but all irelevant 2 pop culture with the exception of drake. NOBODY CARES ABOUT THE INDUSTRY HIP HOP ANY MORE COZ ITS TRASH!

    the underground is making a fierce re emergence all thanx to the internet – independant artists are getting noticed and a new renaissance of real hip hop is at its thresh hold; yonas, emilio rojas, d julien, fay mobb, et al

    dr dre and detox can eat a bowl of sausages! the revolution will not b televised!

  33. Jason says:

    but he knows how to produce a hot azz beat

  43. Belize says:

    @Taker: Yeah, and that shit sucks. @ Haters are annoying: Pop. That’s your genre. @HIP-HOP IS NOT DEAD: Distant Relatives WAS dope a s fuck, but look at the coverage it got. It hardly sold. THAT’s what I mean.
    Whatever, I just prefer what rap originally was. The struggles, racism, everyday difficulties, the emotion, the realness, the sound, the everything that was considered rap from the 80s to the early 00s. All this Wacka Flocka, Gucci Mane, Lil Wayne, Drake, Nicki Minaj, Rick Ross, T-Pain nonsense has no value when it’s compared to OutKast, Slick Rick, LL Cool J, 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G., Jay-Z, Nas, Eminem, N.W.A., Snoop Doggy Dogg, Public Enemy. The legends are fading, DJing with turntables and MCing are dying arts. I understand music evolves and that Hip-Hop’s audience has change. But that’s the music *I* love, and that’s my opinion. Just saying.

  44. SHADY says:

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  45. Kick Ass says:

  49. Belize says:

    @ Lil wayne fan:
    I was a year and a few months old when the Chronic was released. As a teenager, your “idol” was most popular, but growing up in a rough part of the most dangerous city in a third world country, 90’s shit, mostly East Coast (because of Shyne) was always played more on the streets, so that’s what I grew up on. Now though I prefer West Coast.

  50. serpentor says:

    i don’t really care about dre anymore….. to me dre you don’t have the TALENT to scout talent anymore. best wishes on everything though….

  51. Osiris says:

  54. tdoggy says:
