’10 Mixtapes: #5 Freddie Gibbs Str8 Killa, No Filla

Some things never change. And once again, Freddie Gibbs returns to the Double R’s top 10. This time, courtesy of last year’s sleeper, Str8 Killa, No Filla. Freddie kicks things off with his own unapologetic national anthem “Fuck The World” and then, a few tracks down, “Reps 2 to Tha Fullest” with Jay Rock . In terms of lyrical content, Fred’s strength is woven within his baritone flow. He shows his range on “Do Wrong” with Pill, personalizes Mikbone’s seminal hit (“Ghetto”), and then hits the block hard with “Slammin” and “My Hood”. The only real downside is that damn 30 second snippet of “Rock Bottom” featuring Bun B. What a tease. Be prepared to spend A Cold Day In Hell with the Gangsta later this year.

  24. real says:

J cole has NO identity. what is he? besides boring… storyteller? what fuckin stories has he lived… freddie gibbs is taking the torch from scarface and pac and ugk and cmw and above the law and do or die and twista and all of the real rappers from the classic era and pushing that shit for the new era. j cole is just a less interesting drake. yall wouldnt give two shits about him if he wasnt on roc nation.

  25. Connect says:

Now of days hip-hop has changed from who has the dopest lyrics to who has the best beat and hook. Hopefully we can get back to quality lyricists like Nas, Pac, and Biggie and hopefully J. Cole is the start of that.

  26. flawda says:

lol yall stay tryna push this dude on us and no one gives a fuck about him RapRadar. Sorry, and no one gives a fuck about Reek the Villian or any of them corny ass mixtape rappers that yall try to push on people.

This is how i know for a fact, yall mfs are being paid off for your opinion!

  27. Connect says:

@ real The fact that you thick Drake is even in the same conversation as J. Cole limits your credibility. They are nothing alike and the only reason people compare them is becuase their light skin. J. Cole is better lyricist (ex. uses metaphors) and can speak to people from the projects to the suburbs. You have to listen to hip hop not hear it.

  28. Benja says:

Hey everyone! I just compiled my site’s list of Top 10 free projects of 2010 as well and we got a couple overlaps but I also included some that y’all may have missed. Check out my list here:

Cosign my nigga! Notice how they be tryna push this nigga PILL on us too? Every post of his gets NO COMMENTS lmao Not even one, highest I seen was 5 comments. Dont nobody give a shit bout no Pill or them other niggas RR be tryna push, but Gibbs is okay though.

  30. this mixtape should have been #1 !!! and this is way better than Cole’s mixtape.

  31. B.Dot says:

    @flawda

    ^
    who paid for this? https://rapradar.com/2010/12/24/reek-da-villian-ny-daily-news-feature/

*goes back to laughing at ur guys’ comments*

  32. relax says:

relaxx not that serious, this mixtape was solid. and just wondering, am i the only one who thought “bad season” was dope?? no1 seems 2 be mentioning that.

  33. real says:

who in the hood is j cole speaking to? duke aint from the hood,

  34. IZM says:

lmao @ ^this faggot stay hatin

  35. nyg718 says:

i mean i understand opinions but ya taste value obviously sucks if this shit even comes close to jcole tape.

  36. E-Opinonatedurbanitewannabe says:

    ^
No. Just straight no. There is a reason neither J. Cole nor Freddie Gibbs are getting more attention, the mainstream market doesn’t want either of them, doesn’t mean their not hella talented, just the truth. Gibbs is by far more dynamic on the story telling end same with his double time enabled flow. I challenge you to directly prove how J. Cole is better.

  37. smDh says:

^ u do realize u cant prove an opinion, right? #justcheckin

  38. still best rite now!! says:

where the fk has Freddie been since this dropped? dude is m.i.a.

  39. That mixtape was the best shit that I ever listen to.

  40. backhandin your dad says:

FREDDIE GIBBS, the best new rapper out hands down.. (cant even take j.cole stans seriously, hes alright but his raps are one dimensional)… only mixtape id say was better is big krits… these two are gonna save rap u young lollipop ass lovin pups

  41. rahrahrah says:

    Just listen….

  42. get it right says:

i think this is a fine placement for the mixtape, it was good but fnl was better. im looking forward to seeing gibbs and j cole move forward, they were probably my favorite new rappers.

  43. herbsaac says:

@ “connect” really? Gibbs is the truth of rap and J cole is just another who exploits it.. I dont understand the love of j. cole when he is just using the game to get further ahead to movies or television.. thats THE problem with all the new artists like drake j cole nicki minaj.. they dont just want rap.. they came into it thinking about movies and television.. gibbs just wants the rap throne.. he dont care bout no movies..

it was only after 50 and eminem became marketable did they venture away from rap..(completely marketable.. drake is almost there but even girls are slowly getting tired of his corny act.. j cole will never get there and will be done with mixtapes and albums ala saigon and maybe he’ll be realized as a real talent in 2017.. but not anytime soon.. gibbs is way further ahead with rap fans that j cole or drake.. and thats all im concerned with.. we aint concerned with what you care about @connect so stop spamming real artists like gibbs and go jump on coles dick..

seriously.. drake and j cole are so boring and appeal to jocks or those who consider themselves popular or bigger than they are with their lil 9-5 jobs pretending that in their bucket they are drake in a lamborghini.. its sad.. just be who you are and rep what you have..

why is claiming shit you dont got( cough rick ross cough) the new norm for everyone form said rapper to the cornballs who populate the Upper middle class who mainly listen to this stuff who have dreams of getting out of the cars that their parents bought for them and the apartment their parents pay for.. I guess drake and j cole are just role models that show the upper middle class that you can get away from daddy and mommys money but if you do fail when you go out in the real world you can stilll fall back on that inheritance! woop woop!

@connect go away your figured out..

  44. JH says:

Gangsta Gibbs and J. Cole couldn’t be anymore different to be honest so I don’t see why people are comparing them. Idk why everyone is getting their panties in a bundle because RR gave the nod to Gibbs over Cole. You think either of them give a fuck what place their mixtape got??? The fact is Cole is “about to blow up” after his album drops (whenever that finally happens) while Gibbs may never make it to that same level of commercial success. HOWEVA, I haven’t heard a more crisp, hungry flow, as well as a realer message from any recent rapper compared with Freddie Gibbs. That’s my opinion.

  45. JH says:

@herbsaac. I respect what you’re saying but you act upper middle class teens don’t/won’t listen to Gibbs once he gets more commercial exposure. Middle class white kids were/are some of gangsta raps biggest fans…

  46. JH says:

I cosign @backhandin your dad. K.R.I.T Wuz Here is dope. Listen to Life Without Shame by Emilio Rojas. Another one of the best mixtapes this year.

  47. Gabe says:

Ok can we at least all admit that this list is wack!!!!! Im not the biggest Jcole (save your opinion) but both of these should be top 3 and they had Wale at 8?! plus they said that Distant Relatives the the most disappointing album of the year?!?!?!?!??! thats just idiocracy

  48. herbsaac says:

Yeah but thats why i said upper middle class.. middle class and lower are usually people who see the bigger picture.. while upper middle class people seem to have smug about them.. in which when they fail shits aight because they can fall back on whatever money their parents(or grandparents) for that matter have made.. So while bad things will happen to everyone in this world.. those in the upper middle and upper class seem to not care about anyone but them(mostly not all of them think like this)

Andd they take this approach into rap.. they got sick of the shit about struggling because they barely ever do struggle or if they do suffer sturggle its because they werent a starter on their high school soccer/baseball/basketball team and someone who was poorer or not as deserving as them(in their eyes) got it.. So they like drake and j cole who are the priviledged rappers whose only struggles concern moving from disney to nickelodeon and who knows what j coles back story is but ill bet mommy and daddy had a lot to do with it.. “i could see myself as the next jay-z and drake as the next nas”<== paraphrasing horribly done.. but are YOU FUCKING SERIOUS.. NAS AND JAY-Z both had a message in their early shit while NAS continues that trend Jay-Z has gone mentally crazy and for some reason released the BP3 which sucked ass.. But J cole and Drake have no substance to their music(aside from drakes so far gone series.. which still only bitch about being a rich punk and having too much..? yes? lame.)

anyways.. The upper middle class likes whatever the lower and middle classes like and they feel like j cole and drake are for them.. made by people like them.. thats all.. Once gibbs blows up major like wiz.. the upper middle class will embrace gibbs like they do with Wiz nowadays..

  49. LOL says:

Really? ya’ll like singing ass pop rappers i listened to FNL, its nice if you have a female or your male with a pussy, J Cole is dope no doubt but aint he signed to Ghey – Z ‘s label?? Gibbs go hard… Hell even The iLLz is better than J Cole, shit even Smoke DZA is iller, Kendrick Lamar is ill too… Ya’ll just need to stop dick riding pop rappers tryin to do things that already been done

  50. Cheat says:

This is Def not beter than Friday night lights or more about nothing

  51. G.Foot3000 says:

Why is J.Cole even being mentioned in here?

    Freddie Gibbs > J.Cole.

Cole is boring. If he wasn’t co-signed you fanboys wouldn’t give a shit about him.

  52. JH says:

I cosign @LOL. Kendrick Lamar (and my dude Ab-Soul) need recognition. KL will get on the 2011 XXL freshman, OD should have been on this list come to think of it….

  53. Belize says:

yall really think THIS and Yela’s was better than J.COle’s????? DO us all a favor and stop these nonsense list. Gettin embarrassed by yall RR.

  54. […] Wuz Here |#8 Mixtape About Nothing | #7 Don’t Feed The Killaz Vol.3 |#6Friday Night Lights | #5 Str8 Killa No Filla |#4 Trunk Muzik | #3 There Is No Comeptition 2 | #2 Albert […]

  55. Real Deal says:

@herbsaac do you even listen to j cole? it sounds like you just heard he’s cool with drake and figured that he came from the same lifestyle as him, when it really seems like he didn’t have an easy life growing up like drake did. Cole is a real dude with real lyrics that anybody should be able to enjoy. why don’t you check your facts and actually listen to him. it sounds like you’re hating for no reason.

  56. JH says:

Kendrick Lamar’s Overly Dedicated should have been on this bitch. Shout out to Ab-Soul too…

  57. smDh says:

    @Real Deal

No. It couldnt be much more obvious that @herbsaac has NEVER listened to a J. Cole track in his life. I didnt see a single point in either paragraph that held any weight at all- everything from the adversity thing, to “upper-middle-class”, to “using rap as a platform to start acting” is entirely made up, and if he says otherwise, I challenge him to post a link supporting ANY of the claims he made/

  58. Word says:

I think I get it now. Some of you guys hate anyone that becomes succesful. When Gibbs blows up, or if he blows up, then you guys will hate him too. Its sad.

  59. polo1017 says:

Man i quarentee everybody that is talkin shit bout Gibbs has never even listened to his music..Gibbs is one of the top 5 rappers in the qame riqht now and anybody that has listened to ‘the miseducation of freddie qibbs’, ‘midwestqanqstaboxframecadillacmuzik’ and ‘str8 killa no filla’ will aqree with me..str8 up

  60. Haters/Stans says:

    not true^

Ive got all 3. Hes good, but not top 3. Not top 10. Its been a while since I put together a top 20, so maybe he could fit in there.

And p.s. Str8 Killa was by far the worst out of all of them
