’10 Best Albums: #5 Drake Thank Me Later

Warning: This one might get a lil Blackout-ish. But I’m sick and muthafuckin’ tired of people frontin’ on this album. Yeah “9 Am In Dallas” and “You Know You Know” were dope but their exclusions didn’t do anything to damage this excellent effort. You So Far Gone stans need to get over it. Nitpickin’ nitwits. I’ll admit I still respect “Over” more than I like it but there’s some songs that are undeniable like the three formidable features with Minaj (“Up All Night”) Jay-Z (“Light Up”) and Young Jeezy (“Unforgettable”). And are you really gonna try to diss “Miss Me”? C’mon son. I like “Karaoke” too! Shoot me! But damn the individual selections! What makes TML a must listen is the sequence. There’s a beginnning, middle and end to the story. That’s what the best albums do, kids. I guess Aubrey was clairvoyant. One day, Mr. Graham’s gonna no longer have radio hostage and you’re gonna go back and thank his half-Jewish ass for this dandy debut. L’chaim! A toast to you douchebags.

“There’s a beginnning, middle and end to the story. That’s what the best albums do, kids.”

^can’t argue with that. sequencing makes even the most sub par of individual records fit, make sense, and gives them purpose. a true “album” doesn’t need 15 BANGERS. it needs to tell a story.

anyway, Thank Me Later fits fine @5 in my book.

  5. Pusha T says:

    Thank Me Later >>>Recovery

  12. Later says:

Well said! Fuck the haters this is one of the best albums I’ve heard in years but I agree with ZoomZoom, this should definitely be top 3. Only albums I think that compete with this album is Recovery and MBDTF. Idk what other two albums you guys think is better than this

  13. Tt says:

surprised this isn’t in the top 3 but agree with the decision. there’s been some appalling choices in the other lists but this is going well so far. however, i can just see it being ricky rozay’s shitserpiece being number 1. dickriding galore on here

  14. Later says:

@Nathaniel: Excuse me, I’m sorry but where the fuck did you read that a “true album” = telling a story?

  15. Dashing says:

This one’s fair. Drizzy deserves to be right around there.

Does that mean Big Boi is #4 or does he not make the list at all? And what about B.o.B? We know Em, Ye, and Ross are top 3.

  18. Nathaniel says:

    @Later

i didn’t read it and didn’t need to. i decided it for myself. not a fairytale story, nigga. not mark twain. all i’m saying is true… or maybe, the BEST albums, in my opinion, are cohesive groups of songs. not just a bunch of random shit slung on a cd.

  19. Ac@pella! says:

Yeah, I agree with YN. Niggaz jus like to complain about shit, and Drake is one of those things. This was a solid bangin ALBUM from start 2 finish. I actually played this on my way to work a few hours ago. Shut tha fuck up and enjoy the music.

  20. Dashing says:

@Later, the best albums aren’t just compliations of singles. They create a flow or a narrative or whatever you want to call it that makes you listen to the whole shit all the way through.(i.e. Kanye’s album) Otherwise just download 3 or 4 songs off iTunes.

TML was a real good first effort but his next album will be better, I’m sure.

  21. Nathaniel says:

and i would also say Thank Me Later was better than Recovery… but album sales and success are being factored in, i’m sure.

  22. slimshady says:

THIS ALBUM AINT NOTHING TO SING HOME ABOUT, THERES AN ENDING YN?? YOU HEAR “THANK ME NOW”??????? WHAT THE FUCK ENDING WAS THAT???????? SMFH

I was listening to lupes the cool last night and even thought how nice one song goes to the next it just flows so nice, I haven’t listened to this whole album so I can’t judge but personally I’d rather listen to black thought over this

  26. meezy says:

    @ belly

    I think you’re right, lol.

  27. COLD BLOOD says:

  30. A Sinister Kid says:

Y.N…….you Penguin Lookin Muthafucka listen here…………….So Far Gone on this “debut album”……The only thing Karaoke is good for is BONING YOUR MOMS TO which is what you mustve did (You Incest havin trick) if you enjoyed that track.

  31. NihilTimendumEst says:

@D Go Die Light Up The Only REAL Hip-Hop Song!!

  32. ben says:

the resistance was dope. i like drake, but the album was ok. i dont get what he is about? he got spits though.

  33. LO says:

Yep the sequence of the songs might be the best of any CD this year….other than Dark Fantasy.

  34. Alfie says:

    @NihilTimendumEst
It’s only been 7 days so far this year, but you are the biggest fool of the year.

  35. TruthBeTold says:

Recovery is higher than TLM because its a better album.
Kanye will be nr 1 and Ross nr 3

  36. NoWAy says:

This album should be like 8 or 9..not 5!

  37. jburg says:

Took it a while to grow on me but eventually realized it was damn near a classic. Still think he needs to change his flow every now and then.

  38. PITRI says:

Didnt really like this album..not my cup of tea..to each his own tho..

  39. Citylivin' says:

    i thought y’all did the R&B albums yesterday??…….

  40. Nicholas says:

    This album blew.

  41. Mk says:

Kanyes album wasn’t that great. Recovery was better it should be #1

  42. Ashin Kusher says:

People will always hate on someone who made it out the underground, when they used to be the only one to bump his music. But guess what? You liked that shit for a reason! The music was good enough to shoot into the mainstream. And the same people complaining about this are the ones who hate the fact #1 underrated album was flokavelli, those who rightfully call for lyricism and a level of intellect in rap…well its here in TML! Don’t hate just because he’s not rapping about guns, drugs and crime. This is life.

  43. Coroner says:

Isn’t “Thank Me Later” an R&B album??? I hardly could listen to this once!!! Shit was fucking disappointing!

  44. Nijea says:

This is the dumbest shit. Who’s making this list? The cast off Jersey Shore? Y’all obviously made a mistake if Big Boi’s album is ranked higher. Smh! This album didn’t make him bigger than what he is. It really didn’t do shit!

  45. yung silv says:

How I got over shoulda been ahead of it I’m just glad yn didn’t make it #1

  46. justmyopinion says:

I read through majority of the comments, why you ask? Because I feel, if someone has opinion why are they called a hater? That’s there opinion, they don’t like then they don’t like it simple as that. With that said, I will say this i’ve had various discussions with a few non-true hip hop heads and everyone say the same thing about this guy “Drake’s the truth, he could sing and rap” and I ALWAYS reply with, in reference to the rap part, gimme a line, of course someone on here will reply over the computer with a line-in person its different, 100% of the time they reply with “I don’t have a line.” My reply to the “sing” part I don’t want my favorite rapper, not that he is-FAR from it not even remotely near my iPod, singing I want my favorite rapper-rapping, simple as that. All this sing-songy emo-rap is simple minded. Some of you will say, its for the ladies…….OK which is it? he the truth or he for the ladies-an r&b artist with a rap front. In YN post he referenced his three favorite singles/song from this album, ALL THREE had a feature…….thinking of the truth yet? Go check Jay-z, Nas, Lauryn Hill, T.I, 50 Cent and Eminem FIRST albums and remind me if they gain to fame was either a POP record or a MAJOR feature.

I purposely gave a detailed explanation and if you called that hating, hey don’t blame because you share a room with your little brother. I am not your father, I just visit the same website you do. 🙂 Nice

*After Detox drop, F rap, ya’ll can have it back*

  47. Emile says:

    I like Karaoke too

  48. Yup says:

“This album is just ok YN..just ok hear me..Thank u.”

^ I agree. Lyricaly is cool but come on son! Push this nigga back to #8 or something. You frontin YN

  49. Belize says:

Why do people like this moron? His voice is as annoying as barbara’s & gayne’s, his lyrics are mediocre at best, he looks like shit, his “singing” voice doesn’t even sound like him, must I go on?

  50. Donn says:

    @JustMyOpinion
YOUR OPINION ———-> THE MILLIONS OF FANS WHO LIKE DRAKE

    MAJORITY SPEAKS

  51. Haters everywhere! says:

People who said this album shouldnt be on this list, PLEASE shut up.
If you listen to the album just knit picking songs, its the wackest shit ever trust me i will admit, but if you LISTEN to it from front to back, it tells a story on the problems to fame, the good side of fame, how he finds a girl he cares about and how FAME affects it. Thank me now was a great ending to the fag up there because he ended it with of message that he might be gone so thank him NOW since there might not be another time to do so. Album was fire, just listen to it front to back.
TML is BETTER than recovery, and sales mean SHITTTT to those who said reovery is a better album thats why it sold more smfh. Apparently Lady Gaga’s album and miley cyrs’s album must be better than recovery cause it sold more LMAOOO Give the man props album was dope and the lists are accurate as FUCK EXCEPTTTTT for WAKA schoring that 1st underatted album, that Was BULLSHIT lol

  52. justmyopinion says:

    @ Donn

    I guess you right.

*After Detox drop, F rap, ya’ll can have it back*

  53. Dead Snoopy says:

he’s better live than this above average disc but there were times I felt that it was just sleeping. If you’re the fire don’t replicate the quiet storm of your EP.

  54. bigjay2501 says:

    solid album

  55. Damn that shit was dope *Dr. Dre voice*

  56. Donn says:

    But doesn’t Eminem sing too?
I don’t get the argument about the singing. Doesn’t 50 Cent sing, B.o.B., Andre 3000, didn’t Lauryn Hill sing too. Kanye West. Snoop Dogg.
    That argument is weak

  57. Maestro says:

The hype was so big this couldn’t possibly have lived up to it. I probably need to listen to it a few more times and see how it feels now that some time has passed.

  58. steger95 says:

this one must be the second after mbdtf

  59. Mr.G says:

    Great album. Fuck recovery.

  60. @Donn says:

Dont play dumb. Theres a big difference between singing a hook and putting out “Karaoke”. And its a really weak argument anyway, cuz people DO get annoyed with most of the people u named for excessive singing. Go to any MBDTF page and read the comments, and its 50% people calling it pop-hop.

  61. Benja says:
