Two nights ago, Lupe returned to the Tavis Smiley Show on PBS. He discussed his new album, Lasers and responded to rudimentary questions regarding the project.

Why does the media treat Lupe like he’s the only intelligent, politically-minded, positive rapper out there? You don’t ever hear about anybody but him (usually) on these types of shows.

because he’s the only one that can “generates enough interest” for them (especially those that are most high profile etc) to spend their air-time/magazine print/blog or webstie space covering. it’s simple. we should be glad that SOMEBODY hip hop wise is SOMEWHERE in pop culture media speaking on politics, etc. that actually has information.
he’s a mainstream nigga with what you east-coasters call “underground” content. celebrate. he did the seemingly impossible.

I admit that there are alot of intelligent rappers out there but you have to understand Lupe is the face of all those ppl. Its rare that artist like Lupe can even get this much exposure and a voice sort of speak. I may not be that impressed with Lasers myself but i agree that Lupe is an intelligent rapper and person. This is coming from a person who was handed a mixtape of Lupe on the street. Since then i’ve heard songs like Hurt Me Soul, American Terrorist, The Cool, etc.
