B.B. King Blues Club was the place to be last night to witness this year’s XXL class showcase their talents. Although Lil B was the only one absent, the undergrads brought out special guests Rev Run, Vado, Big Sean and Pusha T. Weren’t there? The Masked Gorilla provides a 15 minute recap.

Fred the godson? Star quality? Not so much… Vado did his thing… Diggy is like a hip hop Power Ranger.. Too young to be serious, too obvious to be real… Meek Mills… C’mon son… I know you signed to the All-Seeing-Immortal-Overweight-Over-Hyped-Under-Qualified-Maybach-Music-Chumps, but that can’t be the ONLY thing you have going for yourself. In this day an age you gotta have something that sets you apart from the rest, and this dude gotta be one of the most run-of-the-Mill (pun intended) rappers I’ve seen in a minute… Mac Miller is ok with his bars, but he can’t write a song for shit.. He always ends up with some shit that sounds awkward when he tries to perform it live… Yelawolf did his damn thing… Looks like everybody shut up an put their mean-mugs on when he hit the stage… I guess they were intimidated by that real shit after an evening of pre-packaged nonsense…

That instrumental is from jay electronica’s track “the announcement”. I’m just not fond of this class, man. If I’m a new cat in the game, I’m not going to open with a legends song (that legend completely overshadowed these dudes) and then follow it up with lil twist! Meek does seem like a “run of the mill” rapper like someone earlier mentioned. I wasn’t hyped for anyone. This seems more like an open mic if anything. “The recession is over” lol yeah ok. Smh
