Al Pacino On Rap’s Love For Scarface

MTV caught up with the real Tony Montana, actor Al Pacino on the red carpet for the Blu-Ray release of Scarface. Al thanked and credited the hip-hop community for the popularity of the film.

“The hip-hop people and the rappers got together and they made a video and they talked about the movie. I don’t think anybody’s ever talked about it as articulately and clearly. I understood it better having heard them talk about it. I mean, they really get it and they understand it, and that’s a great thing. They’ve been very supportive all these years. I think they’ve helped us tremendously.”

    HOW SAD

  7. Your mother's "friend" says:

No doubt , i put Scarface behind The Godfather 1&2 , Pacino did his thing

  8. Po says:

    ^dude…. WHAT?!?!

I realize that on the surface, it comes off as just another violence-and-money gangster movie, but the devil is in the details, man. Everything in there builds up to something else, the subliminals are absolutely out of control, and the performances are historic.

The Godfather Pt. I – The Godfather Pt. II – Goodfellas – Scarface – Pulp Fiction

That movie was too damn long!….and he lost everything…..so who is really #WINNING? Why glorify that? Yall need to be looking for longevity!

  12. Stop says:

I’m starting to think people just like using the > character because we all know that ain’t true

  13. Errol Games says:

It’s about time they put that shit on Blu Ray. Who got the bootleg?

  14. Your mother's "friend" says:

@Po dont get me wrong Goodfellas deserves that second spot & in many ways is the better film but i’ve always felt people overlook Scarface because of the over the top violence .I think the over the topness is what makes it great because thats what the story is about & thats what Tony was about

  15. Niyemortal says:

Scarface is a classic. People just look at the ending but there are messages throughout the entire film…

  16. The_Dynasty says:

The ending was perfect because it was realistic. Tony Montana became paranoid and emotional and it made him make irrational decisions. In real life you would get killed or caught for slipping like that. It was the only way for the movie to end.

  17. Po says:

    @My mother’s “friend”

Yea man, I was actually responding to @ZoomZoomDad, but that list wasn’t meant to be in any order. I don’t rank top 5 lists, I just narrow it down to the top 5, and figure that once you get to that level, a strong case could be made for any of them in any order.

PS- I’m gonna have to bow out now, cuz this whole mother/father thing is kinda freaking me out.

  18. you shouldn’t have shot Manolo but i love watching Scarface cause he came from nothing to something despite its about drug dealing but its motivation none the less

*Insert a “haters” comment for the sake of hating*

  20. Sek says:

Idk why idiots glorify being a drug dealer who ends up dead from his own greed at the end but ok. It’s still a great flick. If anything carlitos way should be a better motivation to the folks in the hood. I need that on blu ray

  21. KYOD says:

^The moral of Carlito’s Way was that no matter what you do to make amends, your past is going to find a way to come back and kill you in the end. Not exactly hood motivation.

ive been into scarface before it became cool.. i remember watching it like 12 years ago and thinkin.. oh this is where such n such got this idea.. the flick was cult classic status.. then a few years later it went mainstream and everyone was jackin ideas..

  25. SmokeYou says:

LOL @ some of you only seeing Scarface in 2007.

@Post no billz I first saw it back in the late 80s, but I agree with what you said.

  26. Power says:

Fuck that Ving rhames and terrence Howard ANIMAL the truth

  27. @ post no billz – if you saw scarface 12 years ago, you saw it 15 years after people thought it was cool. lmao! scarface (the rapper) changed his name from dj akshun in like 88 or 89 based on that flick. the geto boys “scarface” song is a southern rap classic…”i started small time…”

  28. Maybe 10 years, not 15. You’re still behind though. LOL.

  29. Hip_Hop_Schoola says:

    @Caramelkandie
Of course he lost everything nothing good last forever. You think druglords, drugdealers or anyone in the game have happy endings in life? They either end up broke with a snitch reputation, dead or lock up for life. Look at John Gotti, Pablo Escobar, Capone, Gambino or the recent “Whitey” who got caught. Scarface was a rag to riches story for the people who dream about escaping poverty, for illegal immigrants it was the dark reality of the American Dream…

  30. WATCH THE THRONE GETTING NUKED says:

    AL PACINO > PLANET EARTH

  31. Post no billz says:

i didnt see it for the first time 12 years ago but thats when i started to snap about where rappers got thier ideas for the songs of the day.. i was always aware that brad took shit frm the movie but i mean the not so blantat stuff ie 10 crack comandments.. reasonable doubt.. illmatic.. learn how to read fuck faces..

  32. adrian says:

that shit made me proud just then

  33. YOUR pusha says:

ive watched it over 100 times ever since i was 8 years old , thats over 20 years ago and every other month i give myself a scarface ‘fix’ its more than a classic movie to me i grew up on scarface, its my number 1 movie ever!

  36. L4U says:

Instant HOOD CLASSIC PERIOD!! All of the other gangster flix were great but not instant hood classics like this. Why??? Going from COMPLETE nothing to something thats it.

  37. the finishline says:

SCARFACE was 1st, the others came after! Therefore SCARFACE was the blueprint. Like MJ in basketball, MJ in pop/r&b/dance, ALI in boxing etc. But rappers refer to that movie more than any other (fact), so safe to say classic film period.

Like anything in life suckaz best depends on personal choice.
