Lil Wayne Speaks On Tha Carter IV Leak

[vodpod id=Video.15358506&w=540&h=350&fv=]

Usually, artists are mad about their albums leaking. But after closing out the VMAs this past weekend, Weezy told MTV he was happy that it leaked a few days early.

“We did real good this time, real good. It just means people want to hear it. I mean, ’cause there are people’s albums that come out that can be leaked and don’t leak, so I’m glad mines leaked.”

  2. Duc says:

was that a subliminal shot at Jay-Z & Kanye West’s WTT album?? Sorta sounds like it. ( “there are people’s albums that come out that can be leaked and don’t leak” ).

Sorry Wayne, your camp has some holes in it and your shit leaked. Don’t be jealousy

  3. @PRkid says:

No one gets mad off “leaked” albums, anymore. They all say its “good news”.. Just like leaked photo’s; they’re the ones probably leaking their own albums.

  4. Yesssir says:

Of course he doesn’t care. His albums don’t have a vision, direction, or constant message throughout. It’s not a body of work that needs to be listened to as a whole, it’s a bunch of “hot” tracks thrown together and called an album. Difference between artist & rapper.

  5. BANG says:

wackest album of all time from the wackest artist of all time

  6. cuz says:

  8. 5 says:

they used pelican suitcases for WTT.
    obvious, he’s taking shots.
    salute though.

  9. Yomster says:

The leak is the reason I didn’t buy the album; because I got to hear how bad it was first. So I can’t imagine he’s really too thrilled with the leak.

Whatever tho. This is gonna be Lil Wayne’s last relevant album anyway.

  16. Throne says:

Carter 4 has been promoted heavily since 2008. Shit, this nigga was hyping that shit ON the Carter 3! Watch the Throne’s promotion consisted of 1 video, and 1 performance. That’s it. And at the end of the year, WTT will STILL have the higher numbers.

  17. 5 says:

    enjoyed both albums

NOW IM WAITING ON DAT ROZAY!

  21. marko-v says:

I went and heard the leaked album online and was fairly disappointed. Even the 3Stacks song seemed mediocre to me. However I’ve also heard ppl in da Lou drive around playin it and think the album is great. Especially since it has over 20 tracks. Check me out tho: http://t.co/nJ1KYZx

  22. 24 sniper says:

  24. Converse says:

C4 is better than Watch the toilet?
    ^

You heard it here first camel dickriders

  25. Awesome says:

Has anyone notice that Lil Wayne’s albums sell almost 1 week in the first week AND THATS IT? and loses steam dramatically?

Carter III sold one million in the first week and as of 2008, the sales for C3 are only 2.7 million.

Pretty pathetic. All the hype for one week, and everyone forgets about it in the next month. Lil Wayne its a joke.

With dudes like Eminem, Jay Z and NAS, you can hear the songs they put out that are 10 years old and still, won’t get boring. Lil Wayne is a “for the moment” rapper.

  26. damone says:

C4 was rated 6/10 WTT 10/10 so yes Wayne promoted the mess out this ablum its wack. Jay and Ye still to this day havent had one tv spot r said anything about the album hell they didnt even want mtv to let people know they were performing. Release dated was announced a week before it dropped, video 4 days after that and they still havent plaued otis on the radio here in kc. Wayne is Vanilla Ice, Mc hammer, just an act im sorry to say i used to like him but he to simple for me. WTT was for the love of hip hop and a event and the C4 was for sales period. only kids like wayne and girls nowadays

  27. damone says:

Ben u mad. read Sohh review red got 8/10 WTT 10/10. SON R KID whatever u say.

  28. lol says:

what an idiot. everybody album gets leak. he’s not all the sudden special for getting leak. smh

  29. JAMESBOND says:

i have to admit that the album was okay.I mean it was completely lyrical”i love my girl thick, not just kind of fine, eat her till she cry, call it wine and dine, today i went shopping and talk is still cheap”it also had deep songs like how to love, gangsta song like john.

  30. Shane says:

I can understand why many people dislike the album, but if you forget about Carter 3, his best album by far…you might actually like the album. I guarantee you that if this album had any other name it would get better reviews because people wouldn’t compare it to C3. IMO if you get a classic on your hands like C3, making a sequel is stupid because very rarely will lightning strike in the same place twice. While I do agree with you on the repetitive nature, the production on it was actually pretty good.
My favorite songs on it were President Carter (which was carter 3 material easily), She Will, It’s Good, and Mirror.
    1. “Intro” 4.5 stars (It was really good, and when put into context with the Interlude and Outro the order goes imo Tech-Nas, Andre, Wayne, Busta, Bun B, fuck Shyne lol)
    2. “Blunt Blowin” 4.5 stars (Great Beat and great verses)
    3. “Megaman” 4.0 stars (1st playthrough i didn’t love it, but after a second play it was ok)
    4. “6 Foot 7 Foot” 4.5 stars (It was great when I first heard it, but after a few listens I got tired of it, still when it was new it was great)
    5. “Nightmares of the Bottom” 4.5 stars (It’s slow, but Weezy fans will like it. IMO the absence of a hook doesn’t mean a lack of creativity)
    6. “She Will” 5 stars (Amazing beat, both rappers killed it)
    7. “How to Hate” 3 stars (Rather boring and didn’t bother to listen to again, nothing is memorable)
    8. “Interlude” 5 stars (Tech N9ne and Andre 3000 had 2 of the best verses on the album, Nas on Outro did as well)
    9. “John” 3.5 stars (I don’t really like Rick Ross, or Lex Luger beats as they don’t fit my taste, but it was ok)
    10. “Abortion” 4.75 stars (I liked this beat and the verses but his singing thing wasn’t good, and held the rating from a perfect 5)
    11. “So Special” 5 stars (Amazing hook and production)
    12. “How to Love” 4.75 stars (While at first I didn’t really like it, not even because he sang or because it was pop as idc when it comes to Wayne, but it grew on me and was a great choice for a single, even though IMO Mirror and She Will would’ve been better)
    13. “President Carter” 5 stars (This is probably the closest we will ever come to Carter 3 era Wayne, and has him doing internal rhyming over a dope beat, hook, and a literally Presidential sample. It also came out of nowhere as I wasn’t expecting this type of song on the album. The final minute or so is epic.)
    14. “It’s Good” 5 stars (Jadakiss had the best verse, Drake did great, and Wayne’s verse was great as well. Wayne’s lines to me were pretty funny, the good kind, and made me laugh at some of his insults.)
    15. “Outro” 5 Stars (In order from best to literally WORST is Nas, Busta, Bun B, and way far behind was Shyne. Nas’ verse is probably one of Nas’ best, I am not an avid listener so its really guess work though. If they replace Shyne and Bun B with Tech and Andre this would have been a classic song no doubt.)
The bonus songs Mirror and I Like the View I thought should’ve replaced How to Hate and John. I liked Two Shots more than Megaman too.
I am not going to do an average because…well….I am too lazy. While it did stumble, for me it ended on a high note. While C3 in book deserved a perfect 10, this album compared to that deserves a respectable 7-8, as it was noticeably worse and not up to that caliber. As an album on its own, however, I give it an 8.5-9.0, as I still liked it.
He probably has fallen off, but I still like Wayne, and songs like President Carter and She Will prove he still has what it takes, he just needs to try harder and not get lazy.
While I am typing, I will say that YMCMB SUCKS AT QUALITY CONTROL! Other rappers who are at the forefront of rap like Wayne, Em, Jay should have quality control, as should everybody else. Em and Jay seem to do a great job of this. Em and Jay seem so much more consistent because they only let out (most of the time) their better songs, but Wayne seems to let out complete bullshit and classics within the span of a few weeks. And Wayne has to drop deadweight like Birdman, Mack Maine, Gudda Gudda, etc. If he took a page out of Drake and Nicki’s books, he would see much more success and less hate.
Wayne has strokes of brilliance, and that is why he is one of my favorites, but if he wants everyone to consider him a GOAT he needs to up his standards in terms of music and people. He has too many lows that counteract with his best. He leaves a bittersweet feeling with his fans at the end of the day. He has enough great material in his catalogue to be considered a GOAT, but his catalogue is also flooded with utter shit. IMO, even Encore and Relapse were leagues better than most other rappers quality wise for Eminem. Em’s worst could probably shit on 80% of the competition. Tech’s worst could do the same, Nas’ could do the same, Jay’s could do the same, etc. Wayne’s worst has the potential to rival Waka, Gucci, Lil B lol.
IMO best consistency in rap belongs to J. Cole, I have yet to here a bad song from him. I have heard some average songs, but I am confident that AT LEAST 90% of his songs are simply amazing and up to his best quality.

  31. Blak Flag says:

Watch The Throne was hip-hop. Wayne was pop. Lil wayne isnt capable of making hip-hop, his style is throwaway

  32. dafuture64 says:

  35. HAM says:

they cant stop me, even if they stop me? you have been stopped nigga, you know this shit garbage and your are too pussy to release the real carter 4

  36. @Shane says:

I didn’t read that whole thing, but you can’t really NOT compare C4 to the rest of the Carters; that’s the whole reason this album is such a big deal. It wasn’t just Carter 3 that had people interested, it was that “Tha Carter” series was, up until now, arguably the most consistent series in rap history, so people were expecting something above average. I Am Not A Human Being sold a fraction of the projections for C4, so it’s clearly the name that’s selling the album, and it should be judged in the same light. It’s a choice that Lil Wayne made when he decided to put the “Carter” tag on it.

  37. Black Shady says:

this nigga @Shane is rating C4 almost as a classic album LOL

fuck outta here with that review stan

  38. James says:

^Um why hate? He gave out a opinion. Also how can a loser name Black Shady call somebody a stan? Wow you must be an idiot.

Great album Wayne, waiting for Take Care now.

  39. Sean Don says:

THA C4 IS BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR!

  40. Sean Don says:

THA C4 IS THE BEST ALBUM OF THE YEAR!

    U MAD?

  41. dagooch says:

i think i would have liked c4 had it come out when it was supposed 2 before WTT. even though wayne never talks about anything to get an album of substance like WTT then go listen to C4 its exposed for being a bunch of nothing. i like wayne but Wayne has never made a consensus Classic album. people have their personal fav wayne album but no wayne album is the one that everybody says is classic. jay got 3 and arguably 4. nas has 1 possibly 2. 50 got 1. biggie got 2. pac got 2. snoop got 1, dre got 2. eminem has 1 possibly 2. now this not from the stan point of view where u like everything this is a general feeling of how people view the albums. and for wayne to be one of the greats he has to give us that one classic.

  42. Jaymalls says:

    @dagooch

    Cosign…. well said!

  43. redd says:

So.. No one’s gonna mention Baby/Cash Money/Universal buying at least half those copies? Look for a lot of C4 giveaways in the near future, folks.

There is no way Wayne legitimately sold close to a million copies. Who the fuck even knew he had an album out outside of the internet realm?
