Troy Davis was officially pronounced dead at 11:08 pm EST in the State of Georgia. Earlier this evening, Davis’ execution was delayed due to a request for a stay, but it was denied by the Supreme Court hours later.
Troy Davis was convicted of murdering an off-duty police officer in 1989, but witnesses have recanted their testimonies over the years. Recently, thousands across the nation protested and petitioned to prevent today’s execution.
Whether they were for or against the decision, the Hip-Hop community took to Twitter to react on today’s events.

No one should have die like that, but look at the evidence people. They said 5 of the 7 withdrew their testimonies, but those 2 still stayed. In the Casey Anthony case, they had nothing concrete (cause they fucked with the evidence). Davis should have gotten a better lawyer, and second, did they have anything that absolved from being at not one but TWO crime scenes the same night? Nah that was shaky too, so its fucked up that he died like this, but we dont know if he was the one that got himself in that situation in the first place.
Lastly, this dude has been in jail since 1991 at least and was supposed to be executed anytime from then to three years after. He got multiple stays of execution through trials for ten years, so why the fuck is everyone just hopping on this shit now?!?! Bandwagon ass muthafuckas.RIP to the dude, but too many fake niggas in the Hip Hop industry…….

The death penalty serves no function in society besides revenge and a false sense of closure. It does not deter people from committing violent crimes and it is not cheaper than a life sentence.

Inconclusive evidence warrants a prison stay, but NOT the death penalty. And since 7 out of 9 witnesses took back their testimonies, and their wasn’t conclusive evidence of him taking the shot, that would mean he had more in favor of his plea than of the death penalty. And as for bandwagonners, this isn’t some new rap group, I don’t think you would mind last minute supporters if you were about to die

I definitely agree with what you wrote. thats why i said it was fucked up how Davis went out. and my mistake on the number. 7 out of 9, not 5 out of 7 withdrew.
That being said, its still a broken system but i wish people understood what they were fighting for before jumping on. RR even posted that all witnesses had recanted, when that wasnt true. I also stand by what i said about we dont how he got involved in the first place and it could have been something he shouldnt have been doing or involved in the first place. And I would definitely appreciate last minute supporters (one of the criminals on the cross beside Jesus was a “last minute supporter” and he made it.). I just dont like when people bandwagon as you can see as evidenced from some of those tweets above.

There were total of 34 witnesses at trial all pointing to Troy Davis as the shooter, including a friend who said Davis tole him he shot the officer once in the chest and then in the head at close range. That detail was very significant since the detail of the victims wounds at the time not revealed to the public.
Of the 7 recantations only 2 changed their testimony in a way that could alter the verdict. The rest were mostly insignificant word changes on the affidavits. Also, at a hearing 3 years ago Davis’s defense refused to put those 2 on the stand and subject them to cross examination, without explaining why.
Learn all the facts before you jump on a media bandwagon.
Get rid of the Death Sentence. We are not in the dark ages.

Prisons don’t change people, they punish people, check recidivism rates. Personally I don’t believe in heaven and hell, therefore If someone killed or raped your family member I would want them to suffer in solitary confinement until the day the die, alone.
