Big Sean: #8 Hottest MC In The Game

[vodpod id=Video.16086866&w=540&h=350&fv=]

God knows we love the folks over at 1515, but after yesterday’s exclusion of J.Cole, their public enemy number one. But, the show must go on, and coming in at number eight is G.O.O.D. Music’s rookie of the year, Big Sean.

The biggest part of Big Sean’s rise over the past year has been the unwavering support of his fans. While he’s signed to a major label (Def Jam) and one of the brightest stars on Kanye West’s G.O.O.D. Music imprint, it was those fans mobbing him at the Adidas store in New York and superstar supporters like Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj hopping on his debut album, Finally Famous, that propelled Sean to #9 on MTV News’ Hottest MCs in the Game VII — his first appearance on the list.

  2. moveOva says:

NO WAY…..he had a good year and it’s mtv so i guess it’s correct…but hell no lmao

  3. Swiss on 107th says:

    #9 and #10 had a better year then J cole really ?

  4. PAP says:

LMAOOOO! Big Sean over Wale and J Cole?!?! wowzers!

  5. Highlight says:

Expect BIGGER things from Highlight and Hard Head Music in the 2012!! The site has been revamped with better content and a better look!! Check it out at http://www.hardheadglobal.com!!

  6. 2da says:

how is big sean hotter than j cole who was nominated for a grammy???

  7. TVA says:

I feel like their perspectives on things are all askew. Cole got a major industry push? I spent most of the year hearing how Jay wasn’t doing anything for him. Jay won’t give him a verse. Jay ain’t never going to let him release his album. Cole got dropped. Then he outsells both Sean and Wale and doesn’t make the list. Sean put up 85K off the huge CB single and isn’t even gold yet? I see the twitter push to get Wale over the Gold mark. Cole’s fan base was going and copping 2-5 copies to support the boy. With Sean’s big singles and Wale’s singles and MMG cosign AND push Cole still outsold them. Roc Nation still letting the first 2 Cole singles cook although I’m ready for this Nobody’s Perfect video. I’m amazed at how Cole is outselling these guys with way less exposure commercially.

T.I. was rightfully left off this year because he was away 90% of the year. 2 mixtape records and some remixes does not a hot year make.

  8. Corrector says:

    their =/= they are…smh

  9. VR says:

    sad…

It really disturbs me even! (LOL) But I think this is why this culture is in trouble. You have arguably two of the illest young MCs in the game right now that give you content, pure MC’ing, and have proved they can sell, one omitted and the other at Number 10. These is just telling people that quality and content really isn’t important enough at all. Just rap about money, @sses and BS with childish rhymes and that’ll make you hot. 🙁

    also cosign what TVA says.

  11. adrian says:

sean is walking that line pretty good right now. i ain’t mad

  12. Hip-Hop Fiend says:

I do feel that Big Sean deserves to be on the list. We all heard from straight out the gate and the whole year he had some bangers. Him and his music was featured in adidas commercials. But to him ahead of J. Cole is just out right disrespectful. I think somebody at MTV has a beef with Cole and I think its Sway’s towel head ass. That nigga hasn’t talk about Cole all year but gased up Odd Future, Drake, and MMG riding there dick all year. Sway’s always taking about real hip hop but never mentions Cole. FUCK MTV.

  13. Mr.November says:

I feel like they should surprise us with Cole at #5. Maybe?

  14. Your mother's "friend" says:

Whats the criteria for these things ?? coz i’m pretty sure Wale has more hit singles than Big sean , i’m not even gonna talk about Cole

  15. Jaymalls says:

Can’t b mad…. This nigga Sean had banger after banger last year! He should actually b higher!

    “My Last”
    “I Do It”
    “Marcin Gaye & Chardonay”
    “A$$ (Remix)”

  16. Fight Music says:

Wow too much bitching, why cant you niggas sign in on concreteloop or juice dot com already… J Cole is not a talent, he doesnt even have a style of his own. Lets be real, Big sean actually came in the game with a style Drake is running with. J Cole is trying to be Nas all at the same time. Quit bitching

  17. MMG #1fan says:

Danm big Sean album never Go gold WTF.. Grammy hate j.cole now mtv

  18. loppol says:

    HIS ALBUM FLOPPED THO LOL

  19. True says:

B.Dot you mean “THEY ARE public enemy number one?” I’m sorry but “Their” is not interchangeable with They’re/They are.

Now back to the topic. This list is opinionated and very biased, Neither Big Sean nor Wale is hotter than J. Cole. and Big Sean definitely aint hotter than Wale. In terms of commercial success, Wale has more hits and his first week sales were more than Sean’s. Wale has a larger following, I still don’t know what they base their list on.

  20. Money Man says:

I honestly think Big Sean is better than J Cole,

even though i listen to J Cole more because of subject matter. When I randomly bumped into his Finally famous album, and i learnt that dude is actually never than people think.

  21. loppol says:

HOLD UP BIG SEAN ALBUM CAME OUT LAST JULY AND IT SOLD 80K THE FIRST WEEK AND STILL HASNT SOLD OVER 300K YET!!! WALE ALBUM CAME OUT NOVEMBER AND IT ALREADY SOLD ABOUT 400K LOL BIG SEAN IS A POP RAPPER

  22. Brooklyn says:

Co sign hip hop fiend & jaymalls Big Sean did have some bangers throughout WHOLE year and stayed cosistant.

  23. Y U MAD says:

J Cole doesnt have a future in the game, his style just doesnt resemble the new urban generation that MTV represents and stands for. His style is struck on Nas’ Illmatic thats came out in 1994 and Cannibus’ Can-I-Bus album thats came out in 1997. dude is so late with his style, he really needs to find a lane of his own. i fucks withCoe before you start tripping.

  24. Lil Majer The Cartune says:

I fxcks wit Sean the long way but FXCK NOOOO! And I’m just gonna leave it at that!

sn: MTV SHOULD REALLY STOP MAKING THESE LISTS YEARLY! None of them have ever been accurate and they’re very controversial towards critics and fans! If anything they should have it where fans vote using a poll on a website! That would be more lagit cause it’s coming from the actual fans point of view!

  25. Your mother's "friend" says:

    ^

Yeain neva lied Cole got a Gold album, platinum & gold singles how are these dudes hotter than him ?? big sean album flopped i aint heard that nigga on the radio since the chris brown joint how is he hotter than Cole ??

  26. VR says:

ironic you been sleeping on the one that you been dreaming ’bout

  27. Hip-Hop Fiend says:

Yall niggas is stupid to bring up first week numbers like makes you the hottest MC go ask Wayne that. Wiz Khalifa will be higher on the list than Wale, Big Sean, and Cole even he sold less than first week. But overall he had a bigger year than Cole. I still think Cole is better than Wiz but him Big Sean had crazy year. To say Finally Famous flopped is stupid, yea it didn’t do big numbers but that was a good ass debut still get play, singles still in heavy rotation. It was alot better than Ambition, now that was a disapointment if I ever saw one.

  28. Word says:

Despite the fact that Cole was WAY hotter than Big Sean, WALE was too!! Why the fuck is Sean #9? His album wasnt bad but it wasnt better than Coles or Wales, didnt sell more than Coles or Wales, and will unfortunately only be remembered for that garbage A$$ song. This list is garbage already. NEXT

  29. OvO says:

^ Ha Ambition was wack to me. Drake will be #1. Guess niggas can stop comparing Drake and J. Cole now and kiss the motherfucking ring.

  30. kayandgee says:

that j cole snub messed up the whole list, i know these lists are stupid sometimes but i find them quite entertaining most of the times, esp this MTV one which is always controversial and gets people talking, but the J cole thing messed all the fun, so as Rozay would say F*ck Em! haha.. Rozay No. 1 by the way

  31. Word says:

AND B.DOT YOU MY MANS BUT HOW YOU A JORNALIST AND DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THEIR, THERE AND THEY’RE?

  32. Bobby Christina says:

Nas never made the list once. Legend my ass! lmao…

  33. loppol says:

jcole is working wit jahlil beats who had produce alot of meek mill mixtapes and that song ima boss..thats a good look for cole so he can have a more “fun” album

  34. loppol says:

drake is a R&B singer btw

  35. Bobby Christina says:

    J. Cole having a bad week. Not making the list, losing at the Grammys, and having to pay extra at Mens Wear House beacuse his crack head mama threw up on his cheap ass rented Grammy suit.

  36. Wally Champ says:

It’s pretty messed up how are they saying singles make you hotter then album sales. J.Cole had a way better year then Wale, and Big Sean

  37. Fat Joe says:

Rick Ross fat ass will be high on the list even tho he didn’t have a album out, just some lame ass features.

  38. Kunta Kente says:

What the fuck happen to Jay Electronica? Is he alive?

  39. Big Sean is Finally Famous. After several years of being put on the back burner of Kanye’s G.O.O.D. Music label Sean finally had his coming out party……

  40. Kenny The Backpacker says:

I was one of the guys who mobbed Big Sean at the Adidas Store in SoHo last year in June. One of the best days of my life, got his autograph.

  41. Drake Was On Degrassi says:

Drake better have the top spot.

  42. Collar Cali says:

Yall hurt now… It may hurt some lives if Nicki takes the crown or is in the top 3. Even if I dont like her music I can admitt she won last year, along with Ross. J.Cole should have been rookie of the year TBH.

  43. chris says:

Wale first album sold 20k first week Big Sean did 89k it aint about sales cus 2 Chainz gonna be on the list

  44. Your mother's "friend" says:

Wow niggas is bragging about being groupies ?? for a lame like big sean no less ?? WTH is going on ??!!

  45. uuuhhhh says:

SMH MTV please do not release any more Hip-Hop information for the remaider of your existence…Big fuggin sEAN?? is trash

  46. Ludacris says:

    these clones are stinking up the place…..Big Sean is A$$ A$$ A$$ A$$ A$$ A$$ A$$

  47. jillbo says:

damn.. mtv is losing their mind

  48. suppppppp says:

Why are you guys blaming MTV? Yeah, it’s on MTV, but look at the roundtable! That’s whom you place your faith? Get outta here. They are clowns, and no different from any biased person that’s sitting with a group of friends in their living room. In fact, they’re dumber, because they don’t show us how they rationally & logically come up with their results. These people seem to come up with results like what they hear on Boxden or Twitter that they can come up to a conclusion based off that… The real world don’t work like that!!!
Big Sean flopped commercially and critically, period. 85k sold, big whoop, you were all over GOOD Friday records, the Kanye album, had Chris Brown, Nicki, and Kanye on singles and he still hasn’t went gold, let alone did 400k.
If J. Cole don’t got a spot in today’s hip hop, than how did he sell more than #9 & #10? Stop tryin’ to repress a niggas style ’cause you got some warped ass logic of what’s hot or not. Look at the facts, man. J. Cole don’t fuck with you industry niggas, and they are salty. This list shows that. Bundle up for another Cole ass summer.

  49. Pissed says:

Only 2 dudes in and this list is already a joke

  50. Ass sold double platinum
    Marvin is gold pushing platinum
    My last is gold

ummm yeah 9 on this list sounds correct.

  51. M.T says:

lol people are still tripping? MTV already lost their credibility. But even if u ignore the fact that Cole isnt on the list, how do u put big sean over wale? This list is not based on sales or lyrical ability so what is it based on?

  52. phraynkhp says:

sean deserves it he had a really good year

  53. mac DIESEL says:

    THIS MANOREXIC NIGGA??!! WORD??!!

    DON’T HATE ON MY OPINION!!!!

  54. Black Shady says:

    Cole > #10 and #9 so far…

    MTV lost

  55. colewalemeekkendrick says:

in my opinion j cole is nice but he didnt have a better year than wale he had one album that went gold and platinum singles yea but wale had 2 albums and a mixtape and his singles were clearly better than coles work out was weak cant get enough was equal to that way and lotus flower bomb is still #1. the list should be wale #9 j cole #10 big sean just missing the list

  56. ha says:

Sway…….smh all the years of RESPECT and you do this…damn bruh u fell all the way off

  57. IceMan says:

    Wow, nice grammar, B.Dot.

  58. Jimmy C. says:

BIG SEAN HAD AN AMAZING YEAR.. I WOULD SAY BETTER THAN WALE AND COLE. I LOVE COLE AND WALE, BUT BIG SEAN WAS EVERYWHERE LAST YEAR, LIKE THEY SAID WITH MY LAST, CHARDONNAY, I DO IT, A$$ AND A BUNCH OF OTHER HIT SINGLES THAT WENT EITHER GOLD OR PLATINUM., ALSO HIS ALBUM DROPPING AND THE MAD TOURING THAT HE DID – COLE HAD 1 FLOW THROUGHOUT HIS ALBUM. WALE WAS AMAZING WITH HIS BUT HE LET MMG SHINE AS A GROUP RATHER THAN DOING HIS THING MORE ON HIS OWN. IT SEEMED LIKE A TEAM EFFORT WIT MMG. BIG SEAN DID HIS THING WITHOUT KANYE AND JAY. AND GOOD MUSIC MOSTLY. NO ID HELPED HIM OUT ON HIS PRODUCTION. BIG SEAN DESERVES A BETTER SPOT THAN 9 IN MY OPINION.

  59. Your Life Is a Lie says:

MTV as some kind of hip hop authority, smh…

  60. Tucq says:

as long as jay z isnt #1 i’m happy with the list. Drake, wayne, Ross, and kanye were all hotter than Jay. keep it 100.
