Okay, so this isn’t the same old critique of Nicki Minaj, I’ll explain myself thoroughly. People, or rather rap fans didn’t have a problem with Nicki Minaj when she did ‘monster’ w/ Kanye. Why? For the simple reason, she was rapping. I believe rap fans are tired of being played for a fool, rappers make their debut rapping and before you know it they’re pop artist and blatantly ignoring the fans disgust with their 360 degrees turn of their music.
Wiz Khalifa did it. Flo Rida did it (then turned around and said he never said he was a rapper) and finally, Nicki Minaj is doing it and she is feeling the backlash for it. Sans the gimmicks rap fans would’ve embraced her.
One thing I’ve learned being a student of this thing called rap music. Gimmicks NEVER last NEVER. Truthfully, I had her lasting 2 1/2 album before the novelty wore off. But, with all that said, Nicki Minaj can redeem herself she is one “ether” record away from going back to that Nicki Minaj we heard on ‘Monster.’ Until then, us REAL rap fans will be waiting for true lyricism.
