I agree “sweet” and “soft” puns are overused, but I think, in this case, Lil Wayne uses them to good effect. To say you’re “sweet like baby Jesus” is kinda just obvious, but “sweet like 1-6” is less obvious because it’s punning a turn of phrase rather than just something that is sweet (Lil Wayne does this to poor effect in The Motto when he says you’re “sweet like sugar”).
And I like the “soft like a Nerfball” line because I didn’t expect the compound rhyme between “merk yall” and “nerf ball” (Wayne is great at going with unexpected rhymes and stretching vowels to make half rhymes). Also, when he said the Nerfball line, it immediately activated my sensory memory (I’ve felt a nerf ball before, and it, indeed, was soft). Also, saying “you’re soft like a Nerfball” is less obvious than saying “you’re soft like cotton” or something.
I know it’s weird that I’m defending these punchlines so much, but it’s important people don’t just write this off as “wack.” I think people are currently sick of Wayne (we’ve been overexposed with him the past few years), and people are turning on him because post-jail Wayne is not as good than 2008 mixtape Lil Wayne. And, because of this, they’ve just picked a side, and then tuned out anything Wayne says.
Again, I’m not some Wayne dickrider. I actually think I prefer Pusha T as a rapper. I just people would be better close readers, rather than just being like, “This shit is corny. Pusha T wins.”

Comparing Wayne and Pusha is like comparing Jay and Nas. They both approach hiphop in different ways. Jays will look at his album and be like will this sell… Nas will look at his album and be like; have I got my point across.
