There is something seriously taking place in rap music that I no longer understand. May be, it isn’t for me to understand, but the artistry of the game has came and left. I think Nas said it best the other night “its on a respirator” in reference to this rap game.
An announcement for a free album? Come on Busta Rhymes, you’re last album was released 25 months ago. Are rappers that afraid of numbers that they will do anything to avoid the embarrasment. But, here’s the reality, although numbers do tell a story you’re entertaining your fans. Its enjoyment for your true fans. So, I know most of you will attack me; thinking I am attacking Busta for releasing a free album.
I am NOT. First, he released the album cover, now announcing a release date. It’s not that serious. Release the music, what’s all the antics about. Rappers left and right are worried about why people are not buying their music. It’s because of things like this, all the circus acts involved.
Rappers if you’re listening/reading, all fans want are three things:
Good music
Release date
No push backs

Keep the album covers. STOP saying I got a few secrets on this album or this is my best work yet. Let us be the judge of that. We don’t care about the secret, half the time most of the music is sing and dancing anyway. Give us 15 hot tracks, multiplied by numerous bars and a few heaters (beats) and we’re good. We’ll pick up every album you drop.

Rappers have no one to blame, but themselves. It started with the auto-tune then they discovered a repetitive hook will sell a single and they ran with it. Lupe said it-it all sounds the same.

Generally speaking, I purchase the albums. Although, I can’t get with the singing and dance. I think that should be on Disney records not rap music.

For years Busta has been with out a label and has still been able to make as much if not more money than artists who are on a label. Reason being is because he’s been doing this for not only a long time but also because he has that sound and charisma that people like and the work ethic to keep his own shit going. No middle man… Just a good ol’ “fuck you, pay me” state of mind.
Obviously since he has actually signed with a label (assuming they have mutual interest in each other) it takes off a lot of the responsibility that he has been bearing on his shoulders for years now. Hes getting older, has a family, and needs some security. He concentrates solely on his music while the label handles all the other tedious tasks that come with being a major artist/well known face in the entertainment industry. Its understandable.
Google has the money to endorse an artist like Busta so that a certain group or demographic will go to their new music platform, give it more hype, and sell advertising… keyword, Advertising.
How do you think major blogs, websites, publications stay open? Advertising. Other artists will soon join on this path with google. its already been happening with other sites.
Busta is being smart on this. He is still eatin’, still doing features, still has the skill to stay relevant, still making his living, and living a life that most of use will only dream about.
