  7. STINKMEANER says:

real talk, rick ross isn’t even in the same category of music as Lupe. lupe makes real music with real meaning and substance. this shit goes hard and hits hard. Rick ross does the same cat in the hap rap about diamonds and bling like all the same shit we’ve heard nonstop since the late 90s.

Take rick ross’s dick out of your face iamrealtalk.

  8. STINKMEANER says:

seriously, i’m on my third listen, is lupe rapping about frontal lobotomies? that is fuckin nuts.

    Just my thoughts…

THIS IS CRACK…I respect nigga because he brings REAL TOPICS to mainstream. Thats what rap used to be unintentionally (IE.Fight the power). Artists got comfortable with success and forgot, rap is a tool to spread any message…not just one IE.Y.O.L.O

…Don’t get me wrong, there is a time for some straight “ignant” rap. The balance just off.

I swear u have to listen to a lupe song about 10 times before u understand the full message. Which is a great thing! After my 5th listen I’m startin to get it. Also kinda sounds like he’s takin a couple shots a 2 rappers in particular. Listen closely.

  21. Lil Majer The Cartune says:

WOW… I GOTTA STOP COMING TO RAPRADAR! Some of you guys are the worst! Niggas here like the complete opposite of what they’re SUPPOSED to like! If you really have a problem with this song, something is seriously wrong! Lupe is delivering creativity, different, and original subject matter in a simple rhyme pattern while still making sure he sounds relevant by his beat choice!

Just cause it doesn’t sound like anything off his first album, Food & Liquor, doesn’t mean that his upcoming album doesn’t deserve to hold the title of Food & Liquor 2. Not everything gotta be a Talib Kweli beat with a Raekwon flow! Some of you gotta realize it’s 2012 and artist are tryna stay relevant and EAT! I’m pretty sure Lupe wants to do HIM, but he also want a nice looking pay check at the end of the day too!

Meh, what do I know, I’m just a 21 year old blogger that still lives at home with his mom. Sorry, you can continue to drown your ears out with your Young Money and Maybach Music.

Lupe got a little into deep on tht one. Love the beat, 1st and 2nd verse on fire. Respect it.

  30. Amirhossssein says:

i think this track is one of the best tracks out here (if not the best)
just deep substance and top notch rhymes and great flow with a great beat
    what more we need ??
god if some one think that Rick Ross is even a slightly “good” rapper then seriously does not deserve having a Brain
if MTV told you to like rick ross and that he is hottest mc in the game , u can think about that before accepting it!
what is hot and respectable about a fat fuck nigga with college degree and CO past, claiming he used to move keys and bricks ?? not to mention repeating the same lies through each track.
do u like being lied to ?? then why would u break up with your bitch when she told you she didnt cheat on you ???

  31. calamitycal says:

I dont get into Lupe because I’m a sophisticated agnostic and he’s a cliche religious patron. Plus, I like great lyrics, and his lyrics are not clear enough, like he has a problem phrasing things for the mass of the listeners. You can be a great lyricist and still be easy to interpret. Lupe’s not easy to percieve and that’s not a compliment.

  32. Espio says:

Lupe is a genius. He says what he feels and believes. He does what isn’t always the most popular, but he believes in what he’s saying. Probably the best to ever do it.

    1. calamitycal says:

Not a chance that lupe’s the greatest. Greatness can be vastly interpreted. You’d have to look in a microscope to find what’s great about him.

  33. Fiasco says:

Damn u guys hopped all the way back on with this one. This is cool, but as far as I’m concerned, he’s still 1 for 3 on F&L2. This is the first one where the lyrics matched the beat somewhat.

^^Indeed, Lupe is great. The fact that he doesn’t allow anyone or anything dictate or tell him what to believe in is commendable. Majority of other rappers won’t touch these subjects because for one, they are either uniformed, ignorant or scared of speaking their minds. Calamitycal disagrees and that is fine, to each his own. He mentioned he was an agnostic so It’s completely understandable why you don’t like Lupe. Being so, you tend to shun anything that has to do with religion or any deity, existential or not. Greatness can be vastly interpreted, so can several other things such as right or wrong. Perception is everything. Alot of opinions are subjective, not fact. In our opinion Lupe is great, period.

  35. Phonte says:

    Lupe on another level.

  36. the brain trust says:

    @Calamytical

I respect your opinion & I even somewhat agree with you. Lupe definitely needs to strike a better balance when it comes to lyrical depth & subject matter clarity. However, I feel like when he does (on songs like Hurt Me Soul, Intruder Alert etc) he is almost untouchable.

I’m a passionate atheist but I still appreciate the way Lupe presents his religious worldview.

  37. the brain trust says:

On this song, it seems like he’s bringing the absurd practices of religious nutcases to light.

From Catholic priests who engage in pedophilia to those who perform silly exorcisms.

If my interpretation is correct, this is dope.

  38. J-Smoke - Killed you when I lit it. says:

:O!! fuckin dope! that nigga lupe took himself and this song to another level!!

  39. Hip Hop says:

    @IAmRealTalk

Name a rapper that has been as lyrical as Lupe and sold the amount of records he has?

Lupe has had back to back gold albums, a platinum single with superstar and a 3x Platinum single with The Show Goes On.

He’s above Officer Ricky on every single level….

Think before you post next time.

  40. explanation of the verses says:

think another way to look at it is he splits the three verses into 3 different forms of hate/ groups:

Race/Racism (He begins the verse leading us to think it’s an exorcism but the last line “we must still pray that his colour will be cured” uncovers that it was racial hate, and the priest was commanding everyone to shun him because of his color). Christian missionaries demonized people of darker skin tones and their cultures because they did not understand them. Lupe steps into the Eurocentric perspective that those missionaries carried, with this line

Women (The second verse the setting is a lobotomy and the surgeon(i guess) leads us to think she’s crazy and deranged, but we find out by the last line “Knew she couldn’t go to school but she thought that that should change” that she’s actually a woman fighting for her rights and the popular belief is that she’s crazy and should be “tamed” and be a “perfect wife” (in their perspective, one that doesn’t rebel or think freely) )

Children (I think this verse is straightforward about child-molestation but for some reason I’m not convinced that that’s all there is to it, the second half of this verse is difficult to figure out it’s a little confusing with all the “he’s” and “they’s”)

  41. STFU!! says:

I dont wanna hear dat atheist shit dats why shit fucked up now cuz no faith having mufuckas bringing his punishment down on errybody I cudve articulated it better but u aint worth proper punctuation or grammar if I told thru experience how I know its a creator yall dumb mufuckas wudnt believe it anyway

  42. mane says:

Wow wow this is really great

  43. kayandgee says:

lupe music is ill but i need someone to translate his wordplay to me, homie is too deep for me, hes super dope tho

  44. Most people won’t even get this song and dismiss it as wack, there’s too many ignorant rap fans these days. Lupe on that next level shit, now to head to RapGenius to find out more about this track.

  45. k.dubb says:

Ross sux, tired of seeing Ye on everything, tired of 2 Chains, tired of Drake…what were we talking about, again???

  46. FNL ALBUM OF THE YEAR says:

Shit is crazy amazing! This is shaping up to be a great album! Too unreal! Lupe is the best to ever do it!

  47. da faq? says:

this is a chronological story of the absurdity of religion and how it’s been abused from way back in the day (verse 1) how they did it 100 years ago (verse 2) and how its being manipulated for child molestation (verse 3) correct me if i’m wrong

  48. vurbz says:

IS ANYONE HEARING THIS BEAT?…I MEAN…COME ON!..THIS BEAT IS TOO SICK, LUPE’S LYRICS ARE FIRE TOO, IF YOU LIKE THIS SONG, YOU WILL PROBABLY LIKE ANOTHER ONE OF LUPES SONGS CALLED STREETS ON FIRE

  49. IMMORTAL says:

    @vurbz! Exactly!

  50. pienman says:

damn, this is ill! this is what i came 2 luv from lupe… damn, the homie killed it

  51. DamnNiggaUDumb says:

calamitycal, the lyrics really aren’t that crazy to decipher and Lupe shouldn’t have to dumb down the integrity of this music so you can understand the subject matter, basically you just called yourself dumb for not being able to understand the lyrics, and besides that’s what the replay button is for, Lupe’s songs sometimes needs more than one playthrough to fully grasp what he’s saying. Oh well I guess you can just keep bumping that “Pop that” in your stereo.

    1. calamitycal says:

You have no idea what kind of music I listen too; bad try for you. Regardless, he doesnt appeal to me. and I have a great vocab, and if I’m listening to music, I dont want to have to try to hard to listen. Like I said, I appreciate great lyricism, and I dont think he’s a great lyricist. Click my name and listen to the song. You’ll know what I mean by great lyrics that are easy to understand.

  52. calamitycal says:

plus, to the man I was talking to about lyricism. I have some raps I havent released yet, that are great lyrically, and I’d be glad you let you hear if you post an email.

  53. DamnNiggaUDumb says:

“I don’t want to have to try too hard to listen” – calamitycal

whateva bruh I respect your opinion.

    1. calamitycal says:

This is a comment section and not an interview, so my elaborations are concise. So, pertaining to the relevancy of the initial post, I dont think Lupe’s rhymes are clear in how he expresses his thoughts, regardless of how many words hes saying or what he’s describing.
