and i’ll tell you all a secret… this is why the south keeps winning…
because while the east coast complains and blames everyone but themselves for their lack of shine and position, we work. ultimately, it ain’t about none of that shit y’all be talking. if you notice, you never hear birdman and wayne, houston rappers, future, waka, gucci, jeezy, and any other successful southern brand complaining and whining about not being given a shot, given shine, given a chance. we too busy out here cultivating our brands until we pop. then we look back and say “i worked for this shit. period.”
keep bitching, like bitches do, you bitches.
its the gate keepers,,,they are fucking it up for everybody,,,,no type of ear for a new sound,,,shit the last sound to come out of new york, that dominated,,was new jack swing,,,,think about, it new york does not have a definitive sound,,,niggas aint musicians or musical,,,they just rap,,,,,premier has a sound, but its every now and then,,,,just blaze is a one trick pony,,,his hardest shit comes with samples,,,,rza was close to a definitve sound,,but i guess he evolved,,,,,,however the world is round shit will come back around,,,,,,right time right place,,,just wait,,,,,
Im not 100% percent comfortable, as an actual objective fan of hip hop with nothing to gain or lose, that Elliot Wilson could possibly hold an impartial opinion on whether or not Hot97 “supports NY hip hop” because anything on the topic would be so fully biased, based on the individual examples provided day in and day out on RapRadar, and show that paid sponsorships by one time highly credible persons and dramatically slanted news stories can greatly increase an “artist’s” presence credibility and acceptance. ie William Roberts A.K.A. Officer Rick Ross
ELLIOT: YES AND NO …ONCE THEY FULLY SUPPORT NY ARTISTS HOT 97 WOULD BEGIN TO BE CONSIDERED SEMI UNDERGROUND…
I’M FROM NYC BUT ALOT OF NY RAPPERS ARE WACK COPYING THE SOUTH MUSIC OR COPYING EACH OTHER WACK WACK WACK
Hey, I’m Elliot Wilson,I suck dick
I’m a lurker 99.99% of the time but all this nonsense going on lately is just too much for me to sit back and ignore.
This question doesn’t address the scope of the current issue which is much much bigger than hip hop itself. It should ask, “Does hip hop culture get enough support from radio”. And the answer is clearly no. I say the actual issue is much bigger than hip hop because the root of it is societal. The greater question is, “Does American society get enough support from the media”. That answer is also no.
I listened to the entire interview of Ebro on the Combat Jack show and he says himself what it’s all about. Degradation of culture for avarice. Specifically phrased for this case, playing what advertisers believe will bring in the biggest audience to sell shit to and take money from.
That seems all fine and dandy wanting to make a buck right? Well where the fuck does the buck stop?
So it’s okay to step on and disregard the principles of a culture/community as long as you are able to benefit yourself then? Consistently pinching every ounce of life and soul out of something that was once so pure couldn’t possibly pervert or taint or change the progress of what made it dear to the people right? Selling crack to your own community no matter how badly it fucks it up in the long run is cool right?
Wrong…
Very. Fucking. Wrong.
The shooting that took place yesterday where 20 children were ruthlessly murdered: I couldn’t ignore the relation between what the piece of shit news companies were doing and what Ebro is abdicating. Big media company – “You know what would generate a lot of ratings, lets interview one of these shocked little kids, or better yet, one of the parents of the deceased. That’ll really boost our ratings and we can get a fuck ton of MORE money according to our research. Oh and shit, here is the picture of someone with the same name as the shooter, must be him, POST IT POST IT! NEED VIEWS! MORE MONEY!”
The news stations today don’t reflect actual news like urban radio stations today don’t reflect actual hip hop. Instead, it’s a bunch of sensationalized b.s. attempts at robbing the cultures they claim to represent.
And what really hurts me the most is how Ebro says there is nothing he can do about it, that his bosses are the ones to call the shots and he doesn’t even like the music they play himself. And his whole reason for starting this controversy is so the real hip hop fans speak up and fight for a return to the real.
Wow, what cowardice is all I can say to that. Isn’t he a self-proclaimed taste-maker, a voice in hip hop media that people actually listen to? He couldn’t start a podcast or do fucking something about it? Oh wait, he sets up meetings.. so fucking disappointing. Wouldn’t people immediately follow him and subscribe if he fought for hip hop? But instead, he tries to tell us he’s just a puppet for the man and he’s happy with his cushy lifestyle and people hating on him and giving him attention so he shouldn’t have to do shit to protect what he claims he represents and loves.
Fucked up ass world man
HIP-HOP AIN’T DEAD IT LIVES IN GEORGIA ANYWAYS!!! Ya’ll NY niggaz take this rap shit way too serious! It’s funny to me because once upon a time NY hip-hop dominated the airwaves way down here in Georgia. “The tables have turned Darkness!” -Rick James
Philly isnt apart of the Tri-State
There is no company or media outlet that supports NY hip hop for the sake of NY hip hop. (except us, but that’s another story). IF Hot 97 or whoever DID start doing it, it wouldn’t be SUPPORTING, it would be EXPLOITING. In other words, there is no entity in music (radio, media, etc.) who will give NY artists (or ANY artist for that matter) attention for the sake of delivering new, progressive or deserving talent on a widespread scale because they are all following the formula, doing what is dictated by the people who sign their checks, directly or indirectly, and afraid to take any kind of chances to satisfy what is a tiny fraction of the overall listening public. That being said, for all those who DO deplore the state of NY hip hop radio and media toward NY hip hop, what we hope you will do is support the radio and media who DO give attention to NY hip hop. And this is formula for everyone who wants a change in the way the music and culture is delivered. Stop complaining about what you DON’T like and SUPPORT what you do.
I THINK IT DOES!!!!!
HAHAHA
