Elliot went soft on the issue as well but ill give you the dues for commenting and not ignoring an important story. Of course he thrives on the attention that shouldn’t have been the debate and fans would agree to that and himself if he’s being completly honest. I can read between the lines and tell we have differing opinions on his act that night though, to each there own, it’s just good to have real conversations.

I respect what Elliott Wilson had done for hip-hop, however I’m quite disappointed that he took this stance on the Lupe incident. Hip-hop is built on raging against the machine and anti-establishment, just because some rappers are commercial doesn’t mean the art form or the culture has to sell out too. If you want hits, talk to the Rick Ross or Drake, but the rest of us intelligent listeners want the truth, not more “drop down and get your eagle on.”
I also didn’t understand the point of mentioning the fumbled Tribe lyrics, what does that have to do with human rights?. Protesting the label? He had to do that because they were having issues with his album, I’m guessing part of it had to do with political lyrics, think about it. Attacking Keef? C’mon son, everyone should be attacking Keef. He is bad for hip-hop, bad for the culture, and he needs serious guidance. If you’re going to make a case on Lupe, make it reasonable.
Ask yourself, was it Lupe looking for controversy or the promoter and venue? When it’s well documented that Lupe, and millions of others, believe that when you praise Pres. Obama for all the good you have to also criticize him for the bad. He is ordering drone attacks that kill innocent people and in no way are making us safer. Yes, Lupe’s comments may come off as Anti-Obama, but if you really dig deep, understand that he’s standing up for human rights, which is exactly what MLK stood for and I’m not sure if MLK would agree with Obama’s foreign policy actions.

I actually agree with Elliott on this one. Lupe has become more of a attention seeker than an artist. Food & Liquor is an amazing album and one of my personal favorites, but the “anti-establishment” persona he’s created in a country that protects his right to do so is becoming tiresome. It’s all a marketing ploy, in my opinion. He drives luxury vehicles, wears the latest fashion yet wants to portray himself otherwise? Get back to the music and have fun again.

Adele sang about her personal pain due to a breakup, which isn’t the happiest or sexiest topic, yet she sold 27 Million copies of her album “21″. Artists do whatever the fuck they want & it’s up to the audience to buy into it or not.
It’s interesting to me that after all these years YN can’t see that Lupe just doesn’t care about being the radio’s favorite rapper.
It’s also funny that a lot of the rappers that YN supports are guilty of the same thing MMG is not making tunes for top 40. They make songs about violence, greed & overtly sexual themes. MMG is played on hot 97, but not Z 100.

anyway, in the end, the artist either caters to his audience or to his own identity while accepting the consequences of either decision.

Lupe also went on to say that he did not vote for Barack Obama and was eventually removed from the stage after ultimately refusing to continue onto the next song of his set.
Though Lupe Fiasco has previously went as far as to call Barack Obama a terrorist in an interview with CBS, this particular incident is by far Lupe’s most outrageously honest form of public expression yet and will be remembered in the Real Rap Hall of Fame forever.
