    INTERESTING TIDBIT: As far as on CONTRACT, The Roots is only 2 members: Black Thought and Qwest…….so EVERYONE else is just a HIRED MUSICIAN…which means LOWER PAY. Thats one. TWO: Its SAD to see the Roots have to be reduced to a house band and reprimanded in public by NBC for disrespecting Michelle Bachman, and BILL COSBY just made them look kinda corny the other week. All of those albums talking PROBLACK ANTI ESTABLISHMENT….but you had to take that NBC job in the end. All of that “WE LOVE DILLA” talk on OKAYPLAYER boards, but MOST OF HIS PERSONAL BEATS AND MUSIC WAS LEAKED BY QUESTLOVE AND OTHERS IN THAT CREW, in trade for records and drum sounds. TRUE STORY. Now noone wants to by a DILLA beats cuz we have them all. THANKS QUEST!!!!! SOULQUARIANS/NATIVE TOUNGUES FAILED with losing DILLA and how they handled his legacy. THAT IS ALL…….I rant…..its REAL. FUCKIT.

    Gotta rep the Roots though. Lived in Philly and met quest and black thought at a mall chillin in center city.. They were real and chilled w me and my rommate for a minute. That was 99’….

    Reduced to a house band? O_o
    I don’t see it that way fam, that’s just another example of hip-hop ubiquity. Ya it bugs me that Fallon calls him Tariq instead of Black Thought but they don’t strike me as yes men. The Roots has always been more of collective then a traditional band. Bands break-up, Quest and Black Thought have carried the torch. They still press high quality albums and tour. The fact that they have such a big role on Late Night keeps me tuned in every night at 11:35. I don’t know much about the Dilla situation but as far as “reduced to house band” you might have to Walk Alone on that one.

    Damn that’s harsh. What’s wrong with having a paying job on NBC, and you’re a musician? If anything its a good way to expose themselves in the public eye night after night, and if they ever quit that show they can move on 2 throwing packed concerts. How are they selling out when they’re just on TV playing music?…… if anything, this makes their brand stronger.

    @LiquorStoreMan

    You’re wilding, Jay Dee’s beat tapes were circulating years before he died. That’s not the fault of The Roots. A lot of rappers are hopping on beats Dilla did years and years ago. LMAO @ the idea of The Roots trading Dilla beats for “drum sounds” when (1) Questlove is the best live drummer in hip-hop and (2) Why not sample the drums from Dilla?

    As for The Roots making anti-establishment songs their whole career, you must not be much of a Roots fan, because the only thing close to that I can think of is “Pump Ya Fist”. The majority of The Roots’ catalog is either Thought discussing personal topics or life (and struggle) in Philly, tearing the mic up, and the occasional song for the ladies…The Roots aren’t known for political songs…Thought will make an occasional reference or sociopolitical observation, but they aren’t dead prez by far.

    As for NBC, The Roots had established themselves as the premier backing band in hip-hop going back to Jay-Z’s Unplugged special. Nothing about the NBC gig does anything other than enhance their rep as a versatile band AND it led to them getting this sweet collabo with Elvis Costello (which might net them another Grammy for the shelf and should sound pretty awesome as well).

    I don’t know what kind of Roots fan you are, but you sound like the kind of “with fans like you, who needs enemies” kind of “fan”.

    FIRST OFF: IVE NEVER BEEN A FAN. FAN IS SHORT FOR FANTIC…..WHICH EXPLAINS WHY A LOT OF U GET ALL BUTT HURT WHEN SOMEONE SPEAKS ABOUT YER IDOLS. FOR ONE:

    QWEST DID INDEED GIVE AWAY A WHOLE CACHE OF DILLA BEATS THAT WERE NOT ON THE WEB UNTIL 2006. CHECK THE TORRENTS….MOST AFTER 2006. DILLA DIED IN 06. I PERSONALLY HAVE MORE THAN 10 GIGS OF DILLA THAT I GOT FROM SOULQUARIAN INSIDERS. WHEN HOUSESHOES AND HEX MURDA WERE TRYING TO BE TWITTER POLICE FOR DILLA TELLIN CATS NOT TO FREESTYLE OVER HIS UNRELEASED BEATS CUZ IT WAS HURTING MA DUKE’S POCKETS, AMIR WAS ONE OF THE MAIN GUYS LEAKIN BEATS…SAME WAY HE LEAKED THAT D’ANGELO JOINT A COUPLE YEARS BACK, AND D WAS PISSED OFF AT HIM.. WHEN I SPEAK..I MAKE SURE MY RESEARCH AND FACTS ARE STR8. THIS IS ALL FACT.

    ONCE AGAIN, I SAY…..THANK U QUEST AND SOULQUARIANS FOR REPPIN.

  9. Spirit Equality says:

    You’ve got to learn how to spell the word “fanatic” before you start acting superior to anyone.

    Hex Murda never tried to be Twitter police to anybody. Most of Hex’s tweets are one word long (his favorite is “no”), so that sounds completely absurd.

    LMAO @ Soulquarian insiders. You would have to learn how to consistently spell Ahmir and Quest (LMAO @ Qwest) correctly before I believe you know anybody in Soulquarians. Who would that insider be? Erykah Badu? Common? LMAO.

    LOL @ “that D’Angelo joint”. The one you can’t name because you made sure your “facts are str8”. LOL!!!

    If you think Quest was sitting around uploading Dilla instrumentals using BitTorrent in his “spare” time in 2006, between touring 200 nights a year, producing side projects, etc, you’re bugging.
