Rick Ross On Reebok Dismissal

rick ross

After being dropped from Reebok, Rick Ross retreated to his Twitter to thank his former partners and released an official apology . Better late than never? [tweet https://twitter.com/rickyrozay/statuses/322781079322894336]

“Before I am an artist, I am a father, a son, and a brother to some of the most cherished women in the world. So for me to suggest in any way that harm and violation be brought to a woman is one of my biggest mistakes and regrets. As an artist, one of the most liberating things is being able to paint pictures with my words. But with that comes a great responsibility. And most recently, my choice of words was not only offensive, it does not reflect my true heart. And for this, I apologize. To every woman that has felt the sting of abuse, I apologize. I recognize that as an artist I have a voice and with that, the power of influence. To the young men who listen to my music, please know that using a substance to rob a woman of her right to make a choice is not only a crime, it’s wrong and I do not encourage it. To my fans, I also apologize if I have disappointed you. I can only hope that this sparks a healthy dialogue and that I can contribute to it.”

WE DONT SUPPORT RAPE AND ARE TRUE ARTISTS.

  2. RES 1 says:

that’s actually a well formulated apology, but it’s sad that he needed to be dropped by reebok to actually write one…

  4. mm says:

    too little too late bawse

  5. Frank Matt says:

  7. JL says:

    I wasn’t a C.O… No wait, I was..

I’m not condoning rape.. Oh wait I was and I apologize

    This guy is the worst.

  8. Rap Industry Maverick says:

the 1st paragraph does look like a self-described “dyslexic” wrote it.

but the 2nd paragraph sounds like a PR rep wrote it.

in other words, Rick Ross wrote a formal apology and he aint even know it….!!

  9. Slim Baller says:

THIS IS PURE BULLSHIT I DON’T BELIEVE ANY OF IT

  10. STINKMEANER says:

And most recently, my choice of words was not only offensive, it does not reflect my true heart

until this dude starts rappin about cheeseburgers, aint none of his raps true to his heart

  11. Ezylyfe says:

Nigga thats the apology you where supposed to do before you got dropped #where is Olivia Pope when you need her

  12. VDUB says:

If he had initially offered this apology, he surely would still have his endorsement. Hope it’s a lesson learned.

  13. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

William L. Roberts. got ‘Donkey of The Day’. Shout out to Charlamagne.

  14. Kanye's Half sister says:

As a woman and a rap fan, I personally don’t feel sorry for him. He could’ve put out this statement the first time, and he would still have his sneakers endorsements. i’m one of those chicks who can listen to chief keef and play a Lupe album one after a next, so I felt some type of way about the lyrics, but still bumped the song. Rick ross brought it on himself.

  15. @tshiamofs says:

Nice statement Rozay…now knock some sense into Meek Mill, some unnecesary comments he did on his twitter page

  16. Dashing says:

Yeah, it never looks great when you apologize AFTER getting dropped, but it’s definitely better late than never. Especially when you consider any possible future business ventures that could have been affected by this.

Now if only we could get Lil’ Wayne to apologize for his last 4 albums…

  17. Yup ! says:

EMINEM AIN’T NEVER APOLOGIZE FOR RAPING BITCHES!!!!!!!

    YOU GOOD ROZAY!!!!!!

    HA !

  18. G says:

“SHE A PUSSY HOE UNTIL SHE GIMMIE PUSSY HOE”! -BAWSE

  19. 2 Cents says:

Looks like the boss finally got Olivia Pope. A lil too late there don’t you think?

  20. Me says:

    Fuck Reebok!!! #FreedomOfSpeech #Boss

  21. Real rap says:

Wale most of wrote this apology for him. Way too complex. But then again, he must of wrote plenty of police reports in his life

  22. LIQUORSTOREMAN says:

FUCK THIS. I WANT MY APOLOGY FOR TAKING ANOTHER MAN’S IDENTITY AND CLAIMING MASON, BUT GETTIN STEPPED TO AND STANDING DOWN IN LOS ANGELES. WHEN THE MASONS RAN UP, HE WAS SOFT SPOKEN. NOW HE TALKNG ABOUT MASONS ON THE SLY AGAIN ON THAT CASSIE JOINT. WAITING FOR THAT ONE, WILLIAM. UNTIL THEN….CARRY ON.

  23. StarFox64 says:

lolol the song is kind of pointless now, not gonna lie, cant even understand half a word that faggot rocko says..

  24. ?!?! says:

I bet that if i drive by one of then UltraViolet girls and bump the song they wouldn’t even know what song it is.
They need to get back inside the house and do something productive.

  25. The Facade says:

If this is the way he felt he would never have recorded the hook, and if he was drunk in the booth he would have made a statement like this when the record came out. Ross’ house of cards is starting to collapse, people are catching on…The Empire…The Facade…The Jig Is Up

  26. Joe Nasty says:

whoever wrote this for him did a good job, but they should have written it a lot sooner.

  27. Joe Nasty says:

don’t get it twisted though. Ross is still a bitch for writing the lyric.

  28. DAT WHITE NIGGA says:

I LOVE HOW HE SAYS “ITS NOT ONLY AGAINST THE LAW”, YET JUST ABOUT EVERY SINGLE BAR HE SPITS IS ABOUT DOING SOMETHING ILLEGAL.

  29. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

“Mastermind” ALBUM is going to flop William dont even know it.

  30. PURE BS says:

    He didn’t write that lol

He doesn’t agree with that! His next material will prove it lol.

Reebok couldn’t have pressed him to release said statement before dropping him! Looks like they wanted a way out and found it!

As if he or anyone needed that statement written. It’s called entertainment! What i still don’t understand is where are all the ppl up in arms about murder lyrics!

Not that rape is ok, but u can always come back from it. Survive it, as it were! But taking someones life is iight, it’s just “art”… Since when can ppl make a difference bt that, with just as descriptive lyrics on how to, and not with the drug hiphop finally discovered (white boys been taking that ish lol) and some loose girl accepting a drink from an unknown person!

DON’T!!! STOP!!! How about not drinking!!

AND even more so molly is not date rape drug. It’s not like u take it and forget what u want or don’t want! You jus feel extra happy!!! Not loose consciousness!! This don’t make any sense!!!

She didn’t even know it cuz she was too drunk, not cuz the molly!!!!

WAKE UP u lush bing drinkin’ mofos lollll

  31. Oj Da Cornball says:

Another word Rick Ross true sentiment are not of this Public Relatoion prepared letter.
If it were he would have expressed these in his first so-called apology.
Glad he’s dropped. If only Def Jam can now follow suit.

  32. Dj Hook says:

Reebok only condone black on black crime. Like killing each other, and drug dealing. Now slipping a Molly in a woman drink can hurt a white girl. It’s ok to hurt the niggas. They so dumb they don’t even know it. Analyze Jay-z rhymes and Rick Ross. All that was ok till by chance a white girl could end up having a black baby & not even know it.

  33. 16 throw says:

    Fat rapist…

  34. Sgt.Pepper says:

this is garbage & an embarassment for hip hop.

It was never ok before when mentioned in other songs and it is not ok now. Props to RR / YN for finally addressing this issue.

Rozay shouldve done this long ago. How his business partners didnt impress that upon him is mind boggling.

thats what you call bad business, period.

I still fucks with Wale, Meek & Stalley though…

  35. DK says:

That statement was way too intelligently worded for Ross to have written it. I do believe he was behind that tweet, though! #Lawsse!

  36. Black Shady says:

    yeah…he didnt write that shit

  37. Peter Pan says:

Cosign!!! @Dj Hook … em made 2 full songs about rape .. “same song and dance, and stay wide awake” and talked about raping his mother lol nobody cares

  38. The Facade says:

I’m picking up two or three pairs of Reeboks this weekend. Better late than never.

  39. KAYANDGEE says:

i applaude rozay for this, better late than neverr, we all make mistakes everyday, im still supporting MMG till the wheels fall off

  40. the brain trust says:

    Cosign at @Djhook.

This whole ‘controversy’ was utter bullshit & might trigger a new wave of censorship in our genre.

    @Kanye’s Half sister

Shut your dirty pie hole. The fact that you’re a woman is irrelevant because Ross wasn’t talking TO or ABOUT you in his verse.

  41. ZoomZoomDad-Otis says:

And when mastermind flops im still lick William Roberts sweaty lemon tasting balls and motorboat his titties!

  42. County Of Kings says:

if niggas is really mad at the hypocrisy that is corporate america, us the youthful hiphop generation have all the spending power.
    what would be funny
is if we the hiphop culture turned around and boycotted reebok for dropping rick ross, or for signing him in the first place idk. but i would be very interested to see reebok’s response if they lost money from urban culture boycotting them due to dropping rick ross.
i wonder who holds more weight the middle aged white women who dont even buy their products or the urban culture who they are spending millions marketing to. i wonder if they would fold and resign him.
cuz at the end of the day we the consumer have the actual power, we just dont use it. ever

  43. Realist says:

so how come rozay isnt in the “You Played Yourself” or “Blackout” section huh Elliot? B.dot?

  44. ilexx says:

Well written apology, I don’t care if he wrote it or a publicist, we should have gotten that apology last week though. But that’s how you supposed to handle your business.

  45. B.Dot says:

@Realist how did he play himself?

  46. Where's Marsh? says:

    New Eminem please

  47. UndaDawgg says:

Now if only Mountain Dew would drop Lil’ Wayne for that Emmitt Till line…

  48. brandonpitts says:

Eminem didn’t have to kiss anyone’s ass and lose endorsements over his rape lyrics.

  49. Knowyourdrugs says:

Molly and GHB is not the same……

  50. The Facade says:

    @ B Dot
He played himself by recording lyrics like that in the first place.
He played himself again by not taking responsibility for the lyrics he recorded by way of insincere apologies on twitter and radio. He claimed misunderstanding but never explained what was misunderstood.
He played himself again by waiting until he was dropped from his most mainstream endorsement deal to issue a statement and apology that actually took some responsibility.
And to be honest, he played alot of decent people that work in the media (the folks at RapRadar included) by leaving them out to dry. If he had accepted responsibility right away you guys wouldn’t be getting criticized so much for having his back.
You guys have definitely had his back the past week or so, hopefully MMG recognizes your work and bumps up the fee or at least gives you guys decent bonuses.
    #TheTruth

  51. rahrahrah says:

Reebok got what they wanted out of Ross. Who was checking for Reebok? Exactly. Most of these songs are sick fantasies, of drugs, murder, mayhem, why not every form of sexual exploitation, where do you draw the line? The only line is the bottom-line, the Almighty dollar.

  52. Rozay says:

Fuckin with Rocko Brought Monica down now Ross,Future you’re next if Ciara don’t get you first.

  53. Peekay says:

Respect, but too little too late. I doubt he penned this but it was well written. What he said was just the tip of the iceberg. Women give birth to all of us, end of story.

  54. DJ Semtex's Prothsetic says:

HAHAHA why say this, AFTER u get dropped, homeboy should haev made this clear before he got dropped , the whole reebok thing with rozay was kinda cool thing to have, still good nonetheless even if it doesnt seem as genuine after being droppedidk. maybe they pick him back up

  55. 50cent ‏@50cent Your a punk @ElliottWilson and you will always be a punk. (Reebok holds our partners to a high standard, and we expect them to live up to the values of our brand. Unfortunately, Rick Ross has failed to do so.") says:

A REAL MAN WOULD HAVE A PRESS CONFERENCE AND SAY IT FROM THE MOUTH !!!!

  56. Carlito R says:

@ Realist You must of meant that Ross played himself for even thinking Reeboks were cool to wear! Those sh*ts are so wack! Come he needs to put back on those Jordans, Galaxies or any type of Nikes. Leave the Reeboks to the White Folks.

  57. Space Ghost says:

To all of you overly judgmental black people on this site. You can suck one. He is human. I don’t see any of you offended at RAPE SCENES IN MOVIES. You lames kiss white ass and hate your own people. Burn.

  58. tucq says:

    @B Dot

He played himself because of the end result. Ross planned never to apologize, and he only did it because he got dropped.

I’m not cheering for him gettin dropped, cuz I don’t like seeing a brutha lose bread, but its interesting to see who gets praised on this website and who doesn’t.

If it was somebody else like Wayne, Elliott would’ve been all over it. I remember him calling Wayne ‘spoiled brat’ before.

  59. Rick Ross will forever be a pussy boy.

  60. assmaster says:

hahahahah do you think rick rozay really wrote that statement? if you did your a fool…. and the company just wanted out and found a way out.

  61. erroljames says:

Day Late. Dollar Short. or in this case a few dollars with the whole lost endorsement & everything. Take notes rich celebrities. Keep your PR Team fed.

  62. sway-z says:

He could’ve said this shit weeks ago and it would’ve been over already

  63. DDR says:

He only crying now because he losing money. The bible say out of the heart the mouth speaks . Oh yea he meant what he said and practices it all the time.Ric Ross the raper not th rapper

  64. Only need one word says:

    Cosign @PURE BS & @Dj Hook

  65. J Whistles says:

What a pussy. This dude is the biggest damn clown in the game. He should be rappin some Asher Roth type lyrics.

Pac is rolling over in his grave, or laughing in Cuba, at what “hip hop” has become.

  66. JERZZZ says:

Before you were a rapper you were a goofy lookin fat nigga, a c.o. and most importantly the type of nigga to slip a fine bitch a roofy cause you never had fine pussy before you got a cheque.
    Fuck your apology you bitch.

  67. anonymous says:

Eminem doesn’t in any way shape or form go around pretending his lyrics are his life. Ross does, even though we have proof he was a CO, he still pretends he is a gangster, and portrays himself in that manner. That is the difference.

Eminem is obviously telling a story, in the same way Tarantino tells a story. Tarantino isn’t running around town pretending to be a slave owner or a killer, its obvious he is not, and never pretends to be in real life.

Ross acts like the character he is playing in his raps, therefore self-eliminating the separation of character and author, by his own doing. Looks like all that posing and faking has finally caught up to the “boss.”

  68. Whitey Bulger says:

Salute to Emenim who built a career off rape/murder lyrics and never had to apologize….in fact Emenim got a Grammy and a Chrysler/Lipton endorsement as a reward for his violent lyrics directed at women.

Poor Tyler the Creator, I hope he won’t feel compelled to discontinue his rape lyrics but luckily you can still rap about killing women without controversy so he shouldn’t have to much to worry about.

  69. Kamo says:

Ross I fucks with you … I heard the lyric and I said you saying something some people already do but I knew a lot of people would take offence to it. but the Reebok drop wasn’t needed I haven’t seen anyone else get dropped for a similar lyric

  70. LikeJordan45 says:

Elliott needs to put himself in the You Played Yourself for supporting this clown

  71. Mike Jones?? says:

    “Your Fired!”

  72. pranjalgupta2009 says:

    Excellent!
