^ I honestly think B.Dot is promoting them free of charge. He thinks, whether right or wrong, it’s great music. I doubt son will promote any artist for a check.

Plus only DJs/radio stations (used to) take payola. We all know DJs don’t break a damn thing nowadays. #facts (http://nymag.com/nymetro/news/media/n_7786/)

  12. gtfo says:

    B. Dot is like that annoying hipster that thinks he discovered every band before they were big. People in the know been rocking with Macklemore years ago.

How bout you gloat about all the rappers you tried to bandwagon and they aren’t even mentioned today.

ie: XV, L.E.P Bogus Boys. Where they at now B. Dot why you left them B. Dot. Flat leaver. Just like a industry groupie.

Bottles popped. Toasts are made. This is a HUGE song. And if you think color has ANYTHING to do with it …. You have NEVER heard white privilege mc kick it. Let alone see him kill shit live OR ever meet him.

I’m with bdot on this one. He is mackeljackson BAD.

Another plaque and Seattle goes Wild. Such a. HUGE win for every music fan here. Y’all don’t know man. …. Y’all don’t know.

  23. CJ says:

both their hits have a black guy on the hook but im asleep.

  24. Phyucku Dusumtin says:

Prime example of with the right corporate backing…anything is liable to pop off. Independent my ass. This is probably the only white music duo in my existence with this much commercial success and the majority of white people don’t even know them.

  25. Anti-Lolipop Kid says:

Funny thing is most of the people who comment negatively on these blogs don’t even buy albums to fucking begin with!!! They wont even support there favorite artist if they could. Therefore, there “hip hop culture” is dying (funny how ignorant it is to say its theres, but thats another issue). Seems like some people are mad because these guys keep winning. There demographic buy albums still and your really mad about this??? Congrats to anyone who can create there own path and makes music for the love and not necessarily too make money. But we all know that if you make quality genuine music the money will always come. As it did for them. They don’t try an be anything there not they just put out a solid album that appealed to people who still pay for music they like.

  26. Dawg you smoking crack? White guy Sherriff I went to high school with loves thrift shop. My eleven year old daughter said a kid was singing the hook in her class. Every dam movie coming out as samples thrift shop beat in commercials an THIS track has been out for 2 years man.

Do you know how music works? You make a product. Present it and slowly (faster when you have a talent agent pitching your samples) commercials become a reality because catchy and funky sells no matter the weather and no matter the pigment.

It’s like a kid making a song loud enough that the department of justice tea bags his cities police department. But you wouldn’t know about that because the kid looks white and nobody bothered to see that he has Native American blood lines and had every right to talk about that cop murdering a wood carver in a crosswalk.

See macklemore has been rising for years and if you are late to the party and don’t know how to let loose and just dance with your lady to GOOD music

When he wins Grammys I will be telling I TOLD YOU SO

  27. brollya says:

tired of seein des faggot ass niggaz maine…. dont nobody listen to this shit for real

  28. The Truth says:

Beloved Hip Hop, your end is nigh.

  29. The Truth says:

  30. […] Congratulations go out to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis! [Via RR] […]

  31. kevin says:

Wats up mack and ryan i love all your songs exspecially that song called cant hold us maroon5 aint got nothing on this

  32. Judge Dredd says:

These guys might be great guys and artists…. But their rap album is not a very good one… Mainstream America and majority of you dickriders are supporting because they are white and soo very different from the traditional hip hop artist (or at least they try to differentiate themselves).

But let’s cut the bullshit, these guys are not making dope hip hop tracks at all…. they’re fucking corny and weak….FOH

VAN CITY’S FINEST DO TO THESE BITCH MADE RAPPERS LIKE VAGINAS. BET I GO INNN!!

  33. Dashing says:

Congrats to Macklemore and Ryan Lewis on the double plat, which will probably turn to triple plat soon enough. Dope video and production too.

I actually like this song a lot more than Thrift Shop, which I really can’t stand. I remember getting the album last year before Thrift Shop blew up and thinking that “Can’t Hold Us” was gonna be a massive single if marketed right. That and the instrumental track were my 2 favorite joints on The Heist.

That said, I can see why hip hop heads don’t like seeing them winning. The counter argument that it’s better than Soulja Boy or something terrible like that doesn’t make a ton of sense either. It just points out that “Hey it could be worse.” Yeah, but it could be BETTER too. Sure, this is poppy and fine to hear in the club when you’re wasted around a bunch of white girls, but it doesn’t feel like hip hop. And no it’s not a racial thing, I’d say the same about Flo Rida.

I just want to see the platinum singles going to J. Cole, Kendrick, Wale, Big Boi, Big KRIT, Action Bronson, Nas, so that people want to emulate that. I’d rather hear a watered down Big Boi, then a watered down Macklemore any day. And that is where I fear hip hop will go once the labels see the potential of corny, pretty whiteboys rapping over poppy dance tracks.

  38. […] Macklemore & Ryan Lewis “Can’t Hold Us” Hits 2x Platinum […]

  39. oh well says:

    Congrats 2x’s platinum.

Mack’s album “The Heist” has the 90’s old school rap style. Some people acting as if what he’s doing is new to rap and it’s not but people had the same whine as to who were the real rappers then as well.

My favorite tracks on the album- “Make the Money”, “Jimmy Iovine”, ” Neon Cathedral” and “Starting Over” and which are definitely not pop.

  40. jman8th says:

Reason its on another lvl like the man above was sayin is bc its bringing back fans to deeper lines more than “strippers bootys go”… Its an adjustment to the modern raps on sex drugs and “drank “but its not new just a flash back to the good ol past.

O and Neon Cathedral don’t get me started, thats what drew me to him

  41. Capricorn Religion says:

    Man. . . . . Fuck this

Alright, somebody tell me if this is worth a spin. I’m not going to read some critics reviews on this. I’m taking a break from reading Technical reviews on creatives pieces of work so, someone let me know…
