Harvard Creates Nas Fellowship
“My people be projects or jail never Harvard or Yale…”
Street knowledge continues to amaze the scholars. Despite dropping out of the eighth grade, Nas has been honored by Harvard University with the Nasir Jones Hip-Hop Fellowship. The program will fund and enrich artists and scholars with connections to hip-hop. Says Nas:
“In my rollercoaster of a life I’ve endured good and bad for sure, and I’ve truly been blessed to have achieved so much thru art in my short life thus far. But I am immensely over-the-top excited about the Nasir Jones HIP-HOP Fellowship at Harvard. From Queens, NY to true cultural academia. My hopes are that greed for knowledge, art, self-determination and expression go a long way. It is a true honor to have my name attached to so much hard work, alongside great names like Henry Louis Gates, Jr. and W.E.B. Du Bois and to such a prestigious and historical institution, and all in the name of the music I grew to be a part of.”

The bigger question is…are we his true “Target audience”???
Second comment was for another post… 😛
THEN WE HAVE MOTHERFUCKERS LIKE CHIEF KEEF AND TYGA GIVING A BAD NAME TO HIP HOP………
RESPECT TRUE HIP HOP
Kudos to Nas. He tore it up in a time when skills and passion trumped art and entitlement. This is the kind of light that should shine on Hip Hop.
If someone asked you what one song defined Nas what would you tell them? I think I would go with The Message, but there are so many classics
this is no longer just about hip hop this is about an idol helping others acheive their dreams like he did
i am truly inspired by nas and always will be he is the deffinition if a living legend
i try and apply what i learn from nas to my life and to my music check it out here

THISSSSSSSSSSSSSS
While this seem a great accomplishment the truth is black men are only praised through hip-hop and sports. How have we made strides? I would love to see a fellowship that recognized black business and medical achievers. We are more than just music and sports. They use us for those activities to fatten their pockets. So far behind we are.
YN mad!

B. Dot, I see what you did there. Not only was that disrespectful, it was also cowardly and distasteful. Pay homage, it’s a momentous day for the culture.
