Trinidad James Says The South Runs NY

Fool’s Gold.

Trinidad Jame$ ruffled some feathers during his performance last night at the Converse Rubber Tracks Studio in New York. In the clip above, he claims that New York has fallen off and that the South is running this rap shit. Below, he responds to his fans’ reactions via IG.

I said a lot tonight in NY and people are prolly gonna take the negative and run with it but my main purpose in life only is to take care of my mama and keep my shoe game on “30 million” . Other than that if I can inspire a young person to be the best person they wanna be along the way….then cool. Nothing else matters. #CrazyDeacon #BlackBatman”

      Who is he? Prince?

  2. T says:

Well….. its the truth isn’t it?

    1. Johnnie Rawker says:

can’t even front, YN is more poppin in these streets that NY rap artists…shit done changed

      1. SpencerS says:

YN is great, were on his website, but the internet is not “The Streets”. Also thats just a stupid pov, do people say Jimmy Fallon “is more poppin than Robert Redford” bc he comes on his show for an interview once ever decade and Fallon is on every night, and does capital one commercials? I mean I follow C Tha God on twitter , but Flex’s albums used to go Gold, and Angie was a rapper for god sake, how can people say personalities are NOW more poppin than the people they cover? This is just lazy non logical thinking.

        1. Johnnie Rawker says:

M comment is based off my experience. Most of my people are not part of the blogosphere. I’ll ask them about ny rappers and they have no clue but they know who YN is. These are people still connected to the blocks we grew up on.

  3. room2roam says:

that was true for a min, not use if its true now considering the ppl at the top of the rap game right now arent all from the south. NY did fall off tho

  4. DialTone says:

AND NY ant gonna do shit about it…..??? What the hell has the world come too i know things are bad but WOW. I’m not suprised… cats think Dj Envys opinion on hiphop means something so this clown can get away with anything. Dam NEW YORK the fucking Mecca city of this shit as a fellow East Coaster i’m so Blown by this. Let someone come to DC s shitting on GoGo…the Bama might not see the light of day and NY Niggaz know what i’m talking about…Ive seen it happin to some of the best.

    1. Guthavizion says:

What r u waiting on then do something talking about what nobody else is going to do lol shut up

    2. Johnnie Rawker says:

there’s no real new yorkers at most of these shows. mostly transplants, bridge and tunnel crowd, and the folks who relocated from where the artist is from. let an artist go to the South Bronx, Brownsville, South Side Jamaica, or the Heights to perform and I bet he won’t run his mouth in that fashion

  5. Darrell Cabey says:

…since Snoop came through and crushed the buildings.

  6. SOuth says:

    Trinidad gotta point..i’m just sayin

  7. brollya says:

now i jus cant wait til niggaz come out and start lettin dis bum ass nigga have it on a track…….. now this is wen i wanna see papoose tear dis one hit wonder ass nigga up….. hopefully somebody do a hit em up track and tear his ass up

  8. NiggalosCage says:

smh how NY gonna leta wack rapper like trinidad james say the south runs NY

    1. Sean Power says:

      its the truth

  9. SONative says:

That “new York” sound and influence is no more. From fashion to hip-hop nobody cares about that NY tag anymore.

    1. condgds says:

so wale, j cole, or even kendrick aren’t influenced by NY hip hop. Drake is influenced by Ja Rule who set the standards for singing/rapping. Wale is inspired by Nas and Cole is inspired by Hov and I’m just mentioning a few. and with out NY fashion in the hip hop game won’t exist how many niggas you know was where timbs or even new era fitted caps on a regular. like hov said “i made the yankee hat more famous than a yankee can”

      1. SONative says:

I’m talking about new influences. All those people who you named are also influenced by southern SEASONED artist. This is about NY and it’s lack of impact on the culture in the last 8 years. 10 years ago you could hear dipset, or a styles p record playing everywhere on the radio. Even with the times changing and with music’s evolution why can’t NY hip-hop have that same impact today? Because NY artist aren’t evolving there following.

  10. Joe says:

Smh he’s tripping, the South is even popping anymore… Right now it’s all about the Midwest and West Coast

    1. vanruddy says:

u kidding? most of the top rap songs this year were eihter made by southern artists or by a southern style. UOENO, Type Of Way, Versace, Bugatti – all made by southern artists.

      1. t.o.s says:

how many of those songs are actually good? none

        1. vanruddy says:

yet they get WAYYY more radio play than new york artistrs. thus, Trinidad James’s opinion is vindicated.

  11. TimeChange says:

it’s true, the game is fucked up nowadays, hiphop is dead. the music i love aint coming back except in a few sprinkles here and there. i dont really blame ny,i blame the industry heads that dictate the direction of hiphop. you know shits fucked up when you see drake and wutang making a song together. shit’s all fucked up now, what we supposed to do now?! shit’s all fucked up now

  12. NiggalosCage says:

nas is the King of NY enough said

    1. Sean Power says:

Nas is soldier his never really rule new york

his never lead any kind of movement out new york like jay z did the roca fella days

biggie the bad boy jr mafia days

    2. Top5iveAlive says:

      Nas agrees with Trinidad James

  13. Matt says:

Thanks alot Radio , you Killing NYC HipHop , the sad thing is this Guy is telling DaTruthhhh

  14. Sean Power says:

Everything TJ said of facts, if KAnye had this rant we would call the greatest rant ever in hiphop, but because it TJ we will play it off

YEAH thank great marketing YN is hotter than all these new rappers

his on the radio more the podcast I’m surprise he doesn’t have Show on Revolt yet

  15. Honesty is the best policy says:

New York is a victim of their own karma for being bias unaccepted and unresponsive to other regions since the beginning. Its like that stuck up snobby bitch in high school that was too good to holla at a dudes one nigga came along turned her out dogged her and now shes the average burnt out bitch nobody wants. The west is going be dominate as they are now because they have an understanding of hip hop like ny and they are the only ones beside ny that can control it because they made the playing field even w/ny. The south will always be relevant because they know how to make radio hits better than any other region!

    1. Selorm Amuzu says:

it’s funny seeing NY in a humble state right now lool

    2. SpencerS says:

This would actually make sense if “New York” was a person/indiviual, or if there was some kind of pact that New York artitst’s all subscribd to. NY rappers being unresponsive to other regions is an overblown concept, its something that 10 yrs ago maybe you could convince me of. It’s not like Atlanta really runs shit anymore, the top new guys now are from Compon, Toronto, Fayetville, Seattle, etc, its just a matter of the world of music spreading out bc of the interent. People who subscribe to this type of thinking are really just looking to create drama and rivalry. IE TRINDIDAD NO TALENT MUTHAT FU*&ING JAME$. Stop giving this guy any creedence, he is a cancer, and untalented semi calculated cancer.

      1. TroyBrownTV says:

Nah b. People remember when you bring your record to the DJ and you get sh*tted on. And you bring your record to the fans and they call you country and disrespect you. NY doesn’t have to take a pact. If it happens enough to enough people eventually the attitude is “well f*ck yall then” and innocent people get caught in the crossfire.

  16. brza says:

“how can I recreate a buzz?!” – Trinidad James aka “My 15 Minutes Are Up”

  17. Truth Or Die says:

Trinidad James career is already finished, buzz at ZERO, record sales at ZERO, a one-hit wonder so I think he should be more concerned about his own situation than the state of Hip Hop in N.Y. And if N.Y. fell off name me one city (ATL included, cause you sure can’t compare no fucking Trinidad James, Migos and Future to the days of Outkast, Goodie Mob, early T.I., Young Jeezy) that HAS NOT fell off compared to the past eras. Is the Houston rap scene better now than in their golden era? L.A. ? The Bay Area? Exactly

  18. $pruce Yee says:

NY we gotta do something mannn

  19. Dan Karlin says:

I detest Trinidad James and anyone with his sound and image. The man is a walking minstrel show and a prime example of how any fourth grade dropout with a double digit IQ and a rhyming dictionary can land a record deal. Fuck him.

That all being said, he’s right on the money with that comment. And I think the reason that so many people – rappers and fans alike – have been up in arms about it is because 1.) the statement is as undeniably correct as it is sad to think about and 2.) TJ, the personification of the “problem” was the one to bring it up.

  20. LOL says:

can these NY heavyweights like Jay, 50, Diddy, Nas please shut these fucking clown up already? see how much power these radio stations give them? NY shouldn’t be playing these guys records in the first place. people need to really stop giving these stations ratings, let them fizzle out along with record labels who dictate these artist’s fate.

  21. Jjjjj says:

Ny hiphop isn’t dead your all just stupid to realize artist like joey bada$$,action bronson,ASAP ferg, ASAP rocky ,retch & dash, the underachievers,Flatbush zombies, smoke dza, astro, fab, hov, nas,Joell n da list goes on all still contributing to da game and repping ny and oh all dese mcs will murder Trinidad In any occasion

  22. That Guy says:

really? some of you people are going along with this? I get it, it’s going against the grain of hip-hop and some of you want to be part of some movement that’s against something big. NY is big. It’s big for a reason. Nas, Jay, are still very active MC’s and as far as hip-hop is concerned, nobody is touching Nas until he puts the mic down and calls it his end. Don’t feed into what’s most popular (not like the south is most popular anyway) you know hip-hop is deeper than that. come on folks.

two dudes that i have to give it to from the south: Big Krit and Yelawolf
everybody else is from all over the states with NY still being the mecca don’t fool yourselves.

  23. p.dom says:

Said by the coon that was pictured in a miniskirt a few months back. This dude and other one hit wonders like him make hip-hop look like a fuckin’ minstrel show.

  24. Mar-tian says:

    he’s right tho

    1. iamdj123 says:

the south is like the UFC and NY is like boxing. everyone says boxing is dead but yet when you have floyd may weather boxing and generating 41.5 mil for one fight all of a sudden boxing is back. no one said anything about NY hip hop when MCHG dropped in July. they were excited to hear hov and he brought back that swag and shut the game down for the whole summer. and if anyone deserves to say NY hip hop is dead it isn’t trinidad james what has he down for hip hop in the last year

  25. Your Father says:

Maybe true but he shouldn’t be the one to speak on it. He’s definitely not responsible for the win.Y’all heard that Pound Cake Freestyle? Drake’s turning in his grave – he ain’t even dead yet.

  26. titus tucker says:

Elliott Wilson is the hottest artist in New York..

    Quote of the year..

  27. New York aint been the same since snoop and Kurupt came and fucked shit up

  28. Viva La Raza says:

still, he sound mad stupid…his “sincerity” is clouded by stupidity…

    his time been up, sorry.

  29. Mad Rapper says:

He’s bullshit; his album is shit. G-unit sold more mixtapes than this dude will with a major-backed album. GTFO

  30. Elproblemo Djblast says:

To be honest he has a point the boom bap era is over, unless we the people in NY demand that shit and vote on battle of the beats on Hot 97 to keep good music in rotation or just demand it in general we talk about how fuck up it is but we don’t do shit about we need to unite and bring hip-hop home to NY

  31. eastpointvet says:

its not a new statement didnt charlamagne say the same thing all the time? and its a true statement the south is running radio from the east to west coast its the dominant sound that you hear.

  32. Samsohn says:

Rap music is in the worst state is has EVER been, since the inception…if the South runs rap, they ruined it.

    1. Shipwreckdakota says:

bullllllllshit. hip hops comin back big time. tired of this hip hop is dead shit.

  33. JIG-AH says:

S/O to the SOUTH…I remember watchin’ RAP CITY back in the 90”s when NY niggas DOMINATE the whole RAP-Game Top to Down…
Even WEST Coast niggas know what it is cause they had to kick them doors down too…But back in the 90’s watchin’ Rap-city you would only see 1 R 2 down south videos for the day R even for the whole week…The South is an will always be a little brother to NY but the problem is Little Brother(the south) is all grow up now…And the bitches on the block love little brother(the south) while BIG bro(NY) is all play out…NY will always be the MECCA the EMPIRE whatever it may be cause this shit started in BRONX s/o to KOOL HERC…But what I’m tryin’ to say is IF YOU A LEADER you will LEAD and IF YOU A FOLLOWER you will follow…ITZ clearly Nu York is not leading anymore…The MOTTO of the story is Don’t chase ur Own SHADOW ny…And y’all should know that too cause NY is the home of the BAD BITCHES an you know we don’t chase bitches we only chase that MULA/PAPER

  34. Selorm Amuzu says:

Trinidad is probably the right guy to say NY is flopping. This is a guy who everyone wants to lose so bad soo at this point he don’t give a fuck what anyone thinks. Also the fact that he knows himself and he is in fact as real as it comes makes it possible for him say some outlandish shit even tho this is a fuckin obvious situation.

  35. Selorm Amuzu says:

TBH if Trinidad stays in the game for a long time, I will laugh at alot of niggas now cos the although he isn’t good at rapping, he is really intelligent and honest and believe it or not knows to get hit song and kool videos aswell. Remember All Gold didn’t break cos of his mixtape, the video did. Matter of fact, he blew up just about 5 months after his mixtape released lol… there is nothing worst than a wolf in sheeps clothing with a fucked up tooth lol

  36. ShitYouNeedToKnow says:

NY may have borrowed the South’s style but NY started it all and we still got the best spitters bar for bar. Aside from nas and hov who are active still we got joey bad Bronson and a bunch of heads who still eating off old school NY sound. These southern dudes come and go. If you live by hits you can die by em too let’s see where Trinidad migos futureand these dudes at in 5 years

  37. Sina Mailer Daemon Djavadkhani says:

It’s about NEW stories guys. NEW locations. NEW personalities. The next important rock band is going to come out of asia…

  38. Uncle Tom says:

FUCK THE SOUTH. THE WHITE SURBAN JEWISH FAGGOTS ARE THE ONES REALLY IN CONTROL OF WHATS POPPIN

  39. Uncle Tom says:

REGARDLESS RAP ISNT HIP HOP THERES A DISTINCT DIFFERENCE. TRUE MUSIC HEADS KNOWS NY BEEN RUNNIN HIPHOP SINCE DAY 1. FUCK RAP MUSIC

    2. BIG PUN
    3. KOOL G RAP
    4. BIG L
    5 MOS DEF
ALL NY NIGGAS FUCK THE SOUTH

  41. A Realist says:

I blame all the powers that be at Hot 97 and 105.1 and all NY DJs…..they dont play or break any new NY artist period. They used to break artist now they just dickride whoever is hot….It took for Drake to show luv to Asap for him to break…There are alot of Hot NY rappers like Grafh and a bunch of others but until sumone big cosigns them NY radio or DJs wont support them

  42. smfh says:

the old days i wish em back rip new york hip hop 1990-2004

      i’m sorry 2…Jay and fab

      1. Yacht says:

True. I refuse to agree with T James or fall into his calculated move to get attention. He’s tryna get a “Control” buzz. Tell us sumthin that we don’t know… Pay em no mind. It’s definitely time too put some or most them Hot 97 playlist songs to bed. New music of all types quality comes out daily/weekly. Give people chance to learn + listen to new tracks. How much could it really affect music quality on nyc radio? Besides NY rappers music or not. NYC radio is stale…

    2. E says:

This list is great and all, but some of these are questionable in the category of rap and/or hip hop. Not really relevant to James’ remarks. I really DOUBT he was thinking ‘Robin Thicke’ when he said that.

  46. LUNGS says:

This nigga dead… He out here saying dumb shit to pump life in his career. Future & nigga who sound like future somehow equals to Atlanta running new york? Eminem , Drake & Jay z had the Biggest album this year. Who in there from Atlanta? Asap rocky Might as well be from texas not Atlanta. Dudes be waiting on Moments to hate New york. It’s really sad. Just remember the road to International super stardom runs through New york!

  47. Public Hairs says:

Since when does hip hop give a flying fuck about a Trinidad James opinion? An opinion that’s NOT new on a topic that’s NOW new. What credibility does he have? He’s still a one hit wonder for the moment.

Nothing was going on for him to make these comments so fuck his publicity stunt.

  48. djkage says:

    Detroit’s up next!

  49. CASH says:

Even Johannesurg,South Africa is hotter than NY right now in terms of hiphop

  50. ChristianB says:

Hip hop ain’t dead, NY is…

  51. Mokgethwa says:

I see the death of NY Hip Hop as a positive evolution of black society, it shows we are starting to value more things over glorification of drugs and violence. We make music about killing each other while white America profits the most from it.

  52. Truth Or Die says:

The new rap gimmick is to put New York in your mouth

  53. realmusic_ilivefor says:

So since Kendrick dissed NY you new niggas wanna get outta character & put ya’ll 2 cents in too .. now I can say NY list of rapper are shitty & at the moment west coast hip hop is coming up again but NY over Atlanta any day… this nigga act like he a lyrical genius LOL

  54. SO? says:

who cares who runs ny into the ground more than the next. its worthless.

  55. Elproblemo Djblast says:

my question is did anybody leave

  56. JMcL says:

    nobody likes trinidad anyway

  57. macky9 says:

the south is dope when they really talk about somethin cause they flow is usual dope- like this dude

  58. hyman roth says:

new york still has 4 of the biggest artist in hip hop,”can your state say that”
Nikki, Jay, French. Asap so cut the shit. when people get tired of being brain washed and want to hear lyrics again new york will have ten rappers on the charts again

  59. carl grimes says:

he dosnt have a clue , hes trash aswell his say is irrelevant

  60. TroyBrownTV says:

TJ said this and the first person to get upset was Maino. NY fans and DJs doesnt support Maino. Maino’s last single was Let It Fly ft Roscoe Dash (a rapper from Atlanta) over a bouncy beat with an autotune hook. His biggest song is All The Above ft T-Pain (a southern singer/rapper) with a bouncy beat and an autotune hook. Maino is the PERFECT EXAMPLE of what Trinidad is talking about. He got mad because people get mad at the truth. Trini held a mirror up in NY and some people didn’t like their reflection. And they can’t deal with their insecurities and their emotions so they’re trying to put that negativity onto TJ. Misery loves company.

  61. me says:

like the last bitch said is wilding….

  62. TroyBrownTV says:

Maino last single was let it fly featuring Roscoe Dash from Atlanta. Why is nobody bringing that up? Not as a diss but as reality

  63. Luther Mane says:

    NY stay taking l’s.
