Kanye Reflects On ‘The College Dropout’

Diamonds Up.

A decade has passed since Kanye’s introduction into the game. Reflecting on his landmark debut The College Dropout, Ye thanked his fans and supporters via his Twitter handle.

“Ten years ago today we finally released what had been my life’s work up to that point: The College Dropout.

I say “finally” because it was a long road, a constant struggle, and a true labor of love to not only convince my peers and the public that I could be an artist, but to actually get that art out for the world to hear.

I am extremely grateful to each and every person along that road who helped, lent an ear, lent their voice, gave of their heart to that project, and to all the projects that followed, and are to come.

I am honored and humbled by my fans, for the unwavering support and love over the past ten years. I wake up every day trying to give something back to you that you can rock to and be proud of.

Ten years later I am still the same kid from Chicago, still dreaming out loud, still banging on the door. The doors may be heavier, but I promise you WE WILL BREAK THEM.”

I feel like Kanye is a completely different person now than he was back then

    1. Chris M says:

Most people are not the same person in their 20’s as their 30’s, let alone when you make them insanely famous and a multimillionaire.

    2. Devon AKA D Menyce says:

We never change as people we just truly become who we’ve always been.

    3. yorapper says:

He said in this interview from 2004, “People think cause you do one thing, you can’t do something else. You know the stigma”.

If there is any quote I remember from kanye is this: kanye was doing an interview or magazine interview and a lot of questions were in it, a question about his flashing lights video and he explained the Mona Lisa line. And one of the most remember quotes I will remember form any artist was this: lady asked: what do you say or have to say for people who think you are arrogant?

Kanye: “you have to be arrogant, you have to be cocky just to get past all the haters and haterism”. That’s one thing I can’t forget about em.

  2. HXSNHJX says:

Kanye West changed hip hop and opened the doors for corny soft artists like lil sean drake rocky gambino etc and killed off gangster street rappers who are now underground.

    1. LuckyP757 says:

      signed, disgruntled artist

  3. HeyBuddy says:

In just my opinion though: everybody wants to say hold kanye liable to the way he changed, but how do people expect one person to be the same after ten years in the music industry. It’s. Impossible for any person to be the same after ten years. His music has changed, his attitude, the way he talks, his style but he still makes the best music in the game.

I may not like the way he addresses his ideas at times, but I don’t expect any person to remain the same after ten years. Nobody for that fact. Kanye has changed the game entirely, and if it weren’t for him idk what hip hop would be today.

So “yeezus” is the same quality as “CD” and “LR” let’s stop being a groupie and face the truth,,, kanye been wack for a while now,,, he should have retired after “graduation”

      1. GodDyhu Harrison says:

You sound stupid as fuck Yeezus is ahead of its time just like CD and LR “Im ahead of my time sometimes years out, so the powers that be won’t let me get my ideas out” – KW

      2. Yesus says:

wow you sound dumb, Kanyes been wack for a while???…should have retired after Graduation??!! are you on crack?

If Kanye followed through on your statement there, we wouldn’t have been blessed with MBDTF or WTT. Yeezus may have been polarising but it is far from garbage. Go and listen to your own voice in a dark room for a while, you will soon realise how stupid you sound

        1. august midknight says:

yeezus is trash, kanye can sneeze on a record and his groupies will call it a classic thats so innovative and creative its ahead of its time,,,,, and mbdtf was overrated trash, all his verses sounded like adlibs considering how short they were, and he got bodied on every track,, it was more of a compilation than an album, with all those god damn features, but then again, thise were the highlight of the mbdtf not kanye’s wack ass,,, and watch the throne was all hype and forgettable and lackluster,,

  4. ymcmbovoxommgcteisdownwitopp says:

Kanye is the exact same person he was 10 years ago. I just watched his Rap City interview from back then and he was talking about the same things be talks about now, art, being the best, breaking down walls. If anything he’s just gotten better. He had a plan and he followed through

    1. HeyBuddy says:

I did too and idk but just seeing past footage of somebody who turned out to be great never gets old to watch. Especially Big Tigg

    2. LuckyP757 says:

fam you’re right. he’s grown and excelled..ups downs and all right before our eyes. only the real will be able to recognize

    3. EVENODD says:

Doesn’t change the fact that his music fell off and he is engaged to the hobbit.

I prefer to remember Kanye as he was up until his mother passed, and not what he has become. I wish Donda had lived, I think Kanye’s music would of taken a much different direction.

      1. Selorm Amuzu says:

keep it real how has his music fell off tho, i can understand you don’t like his newer stuff, but i don’t think he truly fell off. case and point is Bound 2. I feel if he decided to make an album full of Bounds 2 a lot of ppl would change their minds about him. Artists are supposed to move on their own beat and polarising thats because they move due to their experiences

        1. august midknight says:

“Bound 2″ was trash,,, it took 3 songs to sample to make that garbage ” I wanna fuck you in the sink, and give uou a drink” wow!!! That is so deep and innovative, maybe I’m just too simple minded to understand its genius, maybe its ahead of its time,,, that’s the shit typical kanye groupies say

          1. Selorm Amuzu says:

I see someone loves to troll…. aint Bound 2 supposed to be right up Old Kanye’s traditional alley so how is it ahead of it’s time…i guess dumb asses love to say dumbshit!

          2. august midknight says:

just cause it sounds like vintage kanye, it doesnt mean its good,,, the whole song was lazy,,, but i expect his stans to come here and save the day and call his wack shit “art” and “ahead of its time”

          3. Selorm Amuzu says:

this is where u fucked up where in this conversation, did anyone said it was ahead of it’s time ? All I said if Kanye went back to the style of Bound 2, a lot of ppl would be screaming Kanye’s back but it aint like he couldn’t do this anymore

          4. august midknight says:

dont act like his stans havent been saying stuff like “yeezus is ahead of its time” or “if you dont like it its cause its way too creative for you to understand its genius” yes!!! his best days are behind him,, “bound 2” is trash, just cause it has that vintage kanye feel, it doesnt mean its good

    4. BigBawseee says:

If anything hes done the things he planned on doing – expanding his audience: from backpackers, to the street while having girls that listen to his music (if I recall him saying that)

  5. Doc Knock says:

Huge album for the culture, gonna bump this today. You can hate the man for his ego, but I can’t help but respect his motivation and passion for what he does and what he wants to accomplish. Can’t knock the hustle man.

  6. Ben says:

College dropout is overrated and I’m a kanye fan. DOPE album though

  7. MJ ANONYMOUS says:

After reading that, I felt like fighting a war for this brotha haha. Powerful ending to a great letter. I see you Braveheart West.

  8. Sina Mailer Daemon Djavadkhani says:

    YES!!

  9. Yacht says:

Wake Up Mr. WEST.. Kanye bring that Soul back. We’re all entitled to a few crazy day or years. We talk about everything but this mans Talent, Drive, Passion. I think we all respect his attempt at conquering the World. We’re all trying to find our way in this World. Salute Mr. WEST

  10. GodDyhu Harrison says:

Kanye always been A1 since day 1 the media tried to crucify him blow after blow and he continues to rise to the top Kanye will remain unhindered by any attack at his character when its all said and done he is top 10 all time if not top 5

  11. ₭i₦₲ ₵$₡ says:
