Ralph Lauren On Kanye West

It’s Ralph!

As if Ralph Lauren wasn’t already iconic, Kanye West immortalized the designer a year ago on Sway in the Morning when said Sway’s defunct clothing line wasn’t on “Ralph level.” In an interview with Style.com, Mr. Polo himself commented on Ye’s assessment. He has the answers!

DS: I don’t know if you heard this, but there was a famous radio interview that Kanye West did. He was talking about this clothing line that the host of the show owned, and he said, “It ain’t Ralph, though.” The idea being, it’s not Ralph Lauren level, that Ralph is now a byword for a certain …
RL: Oh. [ laughs] So an adjective. It’s very Ralph.

DS: It ain’t Ralph level.
RL: That’s very cool. Well, that’s great. If I were to cater to Kanye, he would know that I’m catering to him. The fact that I make what I make—he gets it. He gets the quality and he respects it. And I think that’s the key, why I work all the time is to do that. That’s the fun.

Good observation. Lotta people didn’t catch it

    2. Nathaniel says:

true. but i don’t care, and i hope kanye wouldn’t care, whether ralph lauren shows him ‘love’ or not. an intelligent Black man doesn’t seek justification by way of the love of white people.

      1. smoss44 says:

guess ye ain’t intelligent then, cause we all know that’s exactly what he seeks

  3. Nathaniel says:

all kanye was saying is “sway, i don’t just want to have a label to say ‘hey look at me i have a clothing label.’ i want to create something that can grow to be as recognizable, iconic, LASTING and a cultural pillar and staple like ralph lauren did.”

that’s a good thing mindset to have.

    1. smale45 says:

yeah. He did that alright. And what did Kanye create ? he released a couple of clothing items, that were ridiculously overpriced. yeah, good luck with that. Kanye is a joke.

      1. Nathaniel says:

he couldn’t control the pricing of the clothes because he didn’t control production and manufacturing, which is what he’s trying to get into, and why he has been complaining about being marginalized as an artist. context, bruh.

  4. Hussle says:

Fuck Ralph anyway! Do you honestly think this guy cares about black people? Let’s be honest…

    1. Davide Leroy says:

No fuck you. Fuck your mom, fuck your keyboard, fuck the house you rent. fuck the people you sit next to on the bus. your ashy elbows, fuck your deadbeat dad, fuck your bitch, fuck your entire life. don’t you ever talk about ralph like that. Nigga without Ralph your ass wouldn’t have any Black owned Clothing brands. Nigga fuck the white beater you wear when you sleeping. Don’t you ever talk about Ralph like that.

    2. White says:

He doesn’t….He’s just one of the many White men that profit from the community…he knows

    3. Dope says:

Do you honestly think Kanye, Dre or Diddy care about black people? No businessman gives a damn about white, yellow, brown or black, all any of them care is how much green one has to spend on their product. So stop with the ”they don’t care about me” nonsense. All people care for themselves and their families, nobody else.

      1. PREMERE says:

Its not that they dont care about black, white, latino etc its that they dont care about anyone who isnt on there pay grade….. money makes the world go round being broke keeps the rest oppressed……

  5. smale45 says:

Kanye is an idiot who blames every failure in his life on racism or white supremacy. Dude is a clown.

  8. Liv Profit says:

in my book Ralph is the standard. And if you know anything about quality and more importantly longevity you would understand this. How many pieces can you pull out 10 or 15 years old and still rock? Still even older pieces have that aged character thats dope. Only true clothing connoisseurs can understand.
